Description
This is a song written by Ed Hannafin. I played on his acoustic version, and really fell in love with the song. I made this version as a demo for the band to try and learn...but i thought i would share it here. Thanks Ed, for writing a song about me.

I re-arranged the verse order and changed a few words here and there....and added a B section, where the guitar solo is. there are two tracks of slide guitar, the rhythm slide is my strat, Pearlie, tuned to Em...and the Lead slide is Ruby in standard tuning....i wish there were some way to duplicate the sound of the two guitars tuned differently playing the same chord when I play live...it's a beautiful sound in my ears.

I will happily share the bands version when it's done.

best to all
z

oh man fran, this is fabulous! your voice sounds great, and you don't give yourself nearly enough credit as a vocalist. but the killer in here of course is your great guitar work, perfectly placed, perfectly panned, perfectly played. sigh .. i love this song! i see why you grabbed it - hope the band can work it out, i want to see the VIDEO!

Grooooooooooooooooooovy
I would love to hear this played live. Let me know when you are around Chicago w/ the band.
Your singing fits perfectly with the style of the song. Man, you don't need more than 4 notes to sound cool (I think I hear more than 4 anyway ;-)

This is...
...great.

From the tune to the lyrics (kudos to Ed on both fronts) to whatever your changes were and your guitar wizardry, z...just a great tune...

How's about putting up a picture of Pearlie, one of these days? I'd like to see that Strat.

I do believe....
...you did something with that vocal in the mastering process after the rough you sent me.... It has more of a ghostly over-the-midnight-airways quality now....

I love that solo where you cut loose a bit, and I also really like that slow fade outro....

Thanks for doing this, Fran.... It means a lot to me to have you work up one of my tunes... And since I had you in mind in the writing of this one, I'm glad that you ended up liking it....

thank you ed
for everything! Our friendship is one of the finest gifts that you can get. You are a world class human, and a terrific song writer. I knew the minute i heard this song it was for me. I am going to keep working on it, and may do several more versions of this, as I am not really satisfied with this one...hopefully it will become a regular staple of our show...and the band recording of it will do it justice.

thanks pal!

Way cool. Vocs reminded me of Dire Straits, and are a great fit to the lyrics, which provide some evocative imagery. Enjoyed the slide guitar. The guitar break was great too, my only nit is that I wish it were a little louder.

Blues
ya know fran, listening to this for about the 10th time, i really wish that instead of ending it where you did, you would've gone into a big ole jam - it always feels like one is STARTING, but then it turns out to be the end of the song. MORE MORE MORE!!!

Blues at its best. I can hear Ed's influence in the lyrics and cool progression. Nicely played/sung Mr Z. The guitar interplay is indeed sweet. The band should eat this up. :-)

One of my fav
of Ed's songs Fran. You do a lovely blues interpretation (as expected) - the maracas sound a little out of place, but I know it's a demo. Can't wait to hear the band version - should be a blast. Your vocals work perfectly here.
Cheers from Oz,
Neil

Two hits... onto v.3!
It's interesting how the original Ed posting gives me a backwoods feeling, and this one's got more of a humid, swampy Daniel Lanois take. Despite the electric upgrade, the leads are more tightly reigned-in =, as if, Fran, you wanted to keep your soloing ego in check and focus on the story. Both are valid, both are great. And I'm looking forward to the full-band version to complete the triumvirate.

You're playing
Is always so musical. You're use of the slide here is just great. This is why I only venture into the blue occasionally, you have truly master this genre and with Ed as your friend how can you go wrong.

Cool
You have a very cool Robbie Robertson thing happening here. Yeah it's blues, but more importantly it's a song. So much cool guitar stuff, slide, tremolo, wah, it's all here. Great solo.
