Mexican Girl (Five_Extra_Arms/cjdaley cover)

Get Flash to see this player.

Description
After we go BMX racing Bob and I like to shoot the breeze at the local Red Lobster. It's there that we talked about our Mexican Girls and they joy they bring in to our lives. A while ago our very own cjdaley sent a track that Bob made in to "Mexican Girl". I wanted to pay homage to a good friend and a next wave rocker so this song seemed the obvious choice.

Production note: The bass ended up being a real disaster. I place 50% of the blame on the used Fender Jazz bass I have. The volume/tone knobs don't actually work. The other 97% of the blame goes to me for getting stupid on the EQ and really making it muddy. Sorry.

The vaunted 5EA and cjdaley original: Mexican Girl

Lyrics
WOKE UP IN A KNOT TODAY
TWISTED UP LIKE YESTERDAY
STARING OFF SO FAR AWAY
SO GLAD THAT YOU AND I CONNECTED

TANGLED UP IN YOUR CH-CHARMS
CHEWING OFF MY EXTRA ARMS
SETTING OFF THE CAR ALARMS
I NOTICED THAT WE WOKE THE NEIGHBORS

(MEXICAN - MEXICAN GIRL)

WOUND UP LIKE A RUBBER BAND
WOUNDED LIKE A ROBBER MAN
FEELING LIKE A MANIC CAN
CAN A MANNEQUIN FEEL WONDER

TRIED TO CRAWL ACROSS THE FLOOR
STUMBLED THROUGH YOUR BEDROOM DOOR
FOUND WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR
SO GLAD THAT YOU AND I CONNECTED

(MEXICAN - MEXICAN GIRL)

YOU'VE GOT YOUR HANDS ALL OVER ME
I'M ENDURING ECSTACY
MY PULSE IS RACING RAPIDLY
SO GLAD THAT YOU AND I CONNECTED

TRYING HARD TO BREATHE AGAIN
PLEASURE POURING FROM MY SKIN
BITE MARKS ON MY NECK AGAIN
WHAT A WAY TO START A WEEKEND

wow what a great song!
like the choppy guitar chords especially.

Definitely
check out the original. It's got enough robo-freakazoid going on to melt a Van Halen record collection. It's cool you picked up on the Beck thing. A straight cover of the original would be impossible since it's so unique. I was calling on Devil's Haircut a bit.

are you kidding me? this is awesome. love the drums and the playful vice of this one. do you guys really get to hang out? I am soo jealous ( i really like both of you guys). i have a song I wrote about a zillion years ago called English GIrls. hmmm, do i dare? won't even come close to this sweaty little number.

playful vice
Bob and I don't get to hang out, unfortunately. But me, Bob and Tempie email each other regularly and the result has that post-BMX race/Red Lobster feel. Not that I've done either of those things, but I imagine it's like that. English Girls? Put it up! You know how nutzo this place goes for your tunes.

Thanks, Bryn
The bass is being played poorly to begin with. And it needs a setup. But beyond that, I think it's much swampier than I intended. I wanted a good rumble. I tried to EQ it to taste, but I just ended up making it worse. But if it sounds good to you, I'll take shut up and take the compliment :).

Thanks, John!
I was proud of the horns, too. I'm trying to work on different things to make midi horns sound at least half-authentic. This is a little reverb heavy, but I'm getting somewhere.

what a way to start a weekend
intro is a killer addition. really really really like the Clash treatment of the verse too. your vocals are in top form dude. You sound even better than you do on our usual "lenny loggins sing along at the bob's big boy" friday nights. can't wait till we're 21 so we can hang someplace less lame. anyway you caused lavalamp to break the caps lock. hahaha.
I would love to hearken back to the sing along days. All those Terry Jacks covers can wear a guy out, though. When we're 21 we're totally going to go to the Q-Town farmers market. Camo wallets, loose Dixie Dames, and lots of parking spaces for the Datsun.

CAN A MANNEQUIN FEEL WONDER?
Ever since that day I helped you put that card in your spokes I dreamed of this day.... Huh?

Thanks for taking this tune and making it new again. I love the guitar sounds and the deep synth sound. A really tight combo that works for me! I still can't believe you did this in one breath!!

What a way to start the weekend!

Thanks for the download!

I love the mannequin feeling wonder line. Thanks for letting me tinker with the song. It's such a cool song and a 10pm and later tribute to the ladies that rock our world.

muy bien, gringo.
Whether you knew it or not, this song has been called "best song ever", so it was quite brave to have a go at it.

You took it over the border, so to speak, giving it space when it was tense, and fantasy when it was single-minded.

Personally I prefer both versions.

Well, I didn't know that, but I do believe it. Between you and me... I prefer you and Bob's version. But I'm glad that it stands out - in a way - to you. Thanks!

I'm also sorry I neglected to get your OK before I posted it. Believe me, I kept meaning to ask but it slipped my mind. Thanks for not suing.

Really digging the dubby bass actually
and the rest of this tune is outstanding. The sustained organ on the chorus under the synth lead is genius and the choppy guitars and perfect vocal treatment make this a real hit. Well done.

The bassline itself I do actually like. I just wish I played it better and that it wasn't so muddy. I've been here two years and there's still a clarity my tunes lack. But the fun is in trying, right? Thanks for listening!
