Description
The third of 10 "Off the cuff" tunes I wrote in June 08. I don't know anyone named Lily Child but it worked for me.
Just Guitar Bass and Drums. Drums are EZDrummer.
I just laid down a Vocal and Guitar in one take and added Bass and fiddled a bit with the Drums. I should really redo the vocal because of too much noise but I probably wont.

I used a "Pointless Pick" and thus the unique Guitar attack.
Pointless Picks are Produced by Sista Mac's Hubby and are great Picks! pointlesspicks.com

Lyrics
Lily Child, went away,
from me, said she,
wanted to be alone.

Lily likes her part,
to control my heart,
she did, I didn't stop her at all.

I know y' think I'm crazy,
for loving her at all.

Well like it or not,
I do and that's that,
Lily wanted to be alone.

Musical interlude ........

Well y' lie in bed
'til all hours of the afternoon,
thinkin' no one would care

But they do, their watching,
watching out for you,
helpin' to pull you through.

And y' know it's got to end
cuz y' know she'll be back again.

Another Musical interlude ........

Lily Child, went away,
from me, said she,
wanted to be alone.

Lily Child's been away,
for a night and a day,
but it seems like a year and then.......

I'm glad you liked it
Feter. I'm just using a Strat through a Crate Profiler 5. A wee tiny amp with great sound.

Nice tune, very familiar sound makes it attractive. The musical interludes are nice they give the song character. Easy listening vocals with a great story line. I like the drum fade out ending too . . .

I could be that stupid Lily Child...
Did you actually write those lyrics?
And if so, did this actually happen to you?
And if so, did she ever come back?
And if so, did you take her back?

Very good song by the way!!!

LOL
I did actually write the lyrics. It didn't happen so she never had to come back. ;)
I wrote 10 songs this way. I just started the drum machine (a random beat) got a guitar groove going and sang what ever pooped into my head. On the original instead of "Lilly" it was Little and some slight adjustments to a few words here and there. One verse was gibberish (I cant remember which) and I had to make up a line that fit the song.
I dont always write this way but have done this sort of writing for years now and have always had good luck doing so. However, not all songs turn out to be usable. But in the batch are always at least one or two keepers. You should try it, it works!

Lilly Child
Sparse lyrics and staccato vocal phrasing work well against a crisply articulated guitar attack. I'm impressed with the single take. Must be those magic picks :)

Fantastic production
I really enjoy your production and vocals, but the way you set up such great rhythmic interplay between the guitar and bass is what I find most attractive in your posts. This is very well done. What are you using for a mic and audio interface? You get such a clean sound vocally.
Love it.

You groove on this one from start to finish, and great touches with various inflections.

Also...
I kept listening to it, and it made me think of another song. Unfortunately, I couldn't figure it out fo a long time. Then it hit me just a minute ago! It has the same sorta feel as "This Time" from August Rush! Take This as a compliment, cuz I love that song!

Analog honesty
Good to hear something that's just knocked out; a very satisfying break from everything else. This sounds pretty pro regardless: direct, clean and 'honest'.

Don't redo that vocal.

This is good!

Great song. Elements of early Lou Reed in the vocal styling.

Those picks look interesting and the guitar sound is excellent.

Cheers

tight
vocals. Great guitar progression. How do get your guitar tone exactly? Amp type, mic-ing method, guitar model? Curious. Or is it recorded direct with a modeler in the box? Your EQ is really excellent. Everything has it's own place, smooth up front bass, well placed drums. Very nice.
