Description

Just redisovered this track from 1994
The band pre-dated super 8 by about 12 months and at that time we were called 'elation'
This was my (all of us) first exposure to midi in a recording studio setting
As I recall, the setup was an 8 track analogue studio and the computer was an Atari STe 1040 running c-lab creator
The drum machine was yamaha something or other and the keyboard sound was a yamaha TX18? sound module
The TB 303 was a real one and was ours. The sampler was a casio SK1
I played guitar
David Griffiths played guitar and sang
Simon Hough played the keyboards
Ian Hough played the bass

Produced by Dread Lester in Blakenhall, Wolverhampton 1994

you know
it is possible that it was (no it definately was)
skyline radio broadcasting out of wolverhampton - dread lester, the guy who produced it, was also heavily involved with pirate radio back then and i seem to remember he played it a few times

Impressive equipment
For the time at least, although some of the instruments still hold up.

This is quite a wonderful song. Good material and a great mix.

thank you vic
a big part of this sound comes from lester's production skills (and now looking back, I can see how I was influenced very much by his approach to recording)

Analogue Studios
Do they still make those?

Thanks for sharing this grooving little number.

they used to be all the rage
the studio this was recorded in was situated on the 17th floor of a block of high rise flats in wolverhampton - it was basically a dub/reggae studio but lester recorded us many times thru our different phases - kind of interesting that a indie white pop band would record in such a place and end up with a great sound (maybe the latter part isnt surprising at all)

cheers bob

Wolverhampton
Interesting fact?: I just watched Wolverhampton defeat Tranmere yesterday. It was one of those matches where you could get a nice nap with no big disturbances.

Is that where you're from?

Did you take a lot of naps?

Might explain your well rested groove.

So are the other guys as cool as you are Bryn? I bet they're still analogue!!

Very catchy
Bryn, after commenting on your comment I realised I hadn't been near one of your posts for a while (in fact I haven't been near many people's posts for quite a while!).
Considering the vintage of this, I'm very impressed - obviously a very tight, pro unit.
Analog ..... I remember analog.

wow
this is nice. I like the sounds, very pet shop boys sounding esp the vocals. I cannot believe you had a real TB 303, I have to make do a vst. Cool, mellow track Bryn.

First listen
and I'm really enjoying it. Is it really that long ago? The 90's for me was the decade of babies, little sleep and drifting away from music. well back into it now and realising what a lot I missed. Wolverhampton eh? This is a long way from Slade!!

Man, I loved that little marvel. Are you sure the song is from the 90's? sounds like yesterday's. Pro stuff at all levels. The bass is particularly awesome.

World clock!
I really dig the production. Guitar and vocals are awesome too. It would be great if you could add a female vocal hook to compliment the song!

I really enjoyed this!
