Lyrics
Verse 1
I bring the heat like a star gone super nova
And contradict those who claim the age of truth is over
Government experiment to make a super soldier
Creating burdens they pass on to the youth to shoulder
No one seems to take responsibility for losses
And more concerned to catoring to all their corporate bosses
If this really was the land of the people's will
The politicians would have no choice, but to keep it real
Some people live where the cops only seek to kill
While others live just to shop, eat, sleep and chill
If you were meek for real
Then I would doubt one could say the things you say upon this mic just to keep a deal
Record companies are full of empty promises
Thats why I make this music with creative common sense
I climb this ladder just to make my way to prominence
And dominate the game with wisdom and tolerance
Food for thought, while you're just spitting condiments
You're building false gods, while I'm building monuments
I got more people hating me than Farrakhan
Rasta-logic as I chant down to Babylon
I have a heart thats the size of a mastodon
And run the track like a Kenyan in a marathon
32 bars I spit with no apology
I give it all of me while some try to demolish me
It is my policy to call emcees that bother me
I polished these skills and make them shine for all to see
Some have their gates open, other build a wall to me
But I stand strong like the roots of the tallest tree
Spitlogic the Elephant
Intelligent, relevent thought blessed with melanin
They're telling men that hell will win
but hell will bend
To the will of the right that will not fail again

Verse 2
To this hiphop culture I'm so comitted
Cause I put all my heart and my soul up in it
They try to make it seem my people have no beginning
And don't report upon the battle my soldier's winning
But I wont beg for the spotlight or their attention
Or the history the devils don't care to mention
We have us. The sons and the daughters of Dust
That give praise unto the mighty father of us
If I passed you the mic would you bother to bust
For a group of men and women I don't bother to trust
For a whole generation fed poisonous dreams
And would trade their dignity to be on TV screens
Reality can be a nightmare behind the scenes
Industry is full of hustlers who lie and scheme
I'm frustrated so inside I scream
When given the choice between keeping pride and cream

Verse 3
I'd like to say that everything that I did as a youth
Put me on the right path on to knowledge and truth
I was raised to be a pastor for all it was worth
With a subconscious mind to believe I was cursed
Bombarded with images that would feed my ignorance
So now Im full of shit while society mimics it
It wasn't till I started to read
That I found its the god thats within which is all that I need
I try not to run my mouth though I speak my mind
And refused to place my faith in the words of mankind
Searched for the inner eye, closed tight in my soul
And once I opened up its lid I found total control
Like the science of breath, life and death
I will do this till nothing but a mic is left
And even when the mic is gone I still have my pride
And my ancestor's voice that resides inside

Nice
no lyrics dude? Very cool and well thought out. You picked the perfect beat for the content. very youthful and organic. Good stuff man, clean production too. Thats a dope bass sample, but maybe take it down a little, other than that this is solid. Very nice. Def a fav. Good work on this. i'll be DLing this when I get home.

I haven't had much of a chance to listen to this anywhere else, but the headphones till today. I can hear how overwhelming it can be at times. Good looking out.

Like a star gone supernova
Nice song! I like the minimal arrangement around your voice--just enough beat to keep the song moving but doesn't compete with your delivery: and the lyrics, which have plenty to listen to and think about.

Thank you. The beat only took me an hour to make. It surprised me, but once I started putting the lyrics to this it became more. I always have an urge to add more, but sometimes fight it. Glad I did.

Love how you
bring the instruments in one by one. Adds a very cool dimension to the first verse. Some of the better rapping I have heard you perform. Well done song. Enjoyed it. Thx for the DL

Build up
That was my initial intention to simply do 32 bars and leave the song at that. I simply wanted to add each layer and build it to the chorus at the end, but I felt that more verses could compliment that one. Glad you enjoyed yourself. Thank you for listening.

F**king Great Track
I don't normally swear, but this is awesome. Love the music, calm and intelligent. The lyrics are well rapped and are dripping with meaning. I really like your clever wordplay and this has tonnes. Very well done Mitch, I am well impressed. I would love to remix of course, however at the same time this is so good, it would be a shame to change it.

this is really great. your voice sounds awesome as usual, but the production is incredible (as is the song). are you still on Logic? this one just blew me away. the sparse verses are perfect and when that minor chord occurs, it makes the song. nice one.

I am still using it. I'm actually using it exclusively now. I may be getting a little better at making music with it or its just one of those things in the muse dimension that happened to pay me a visit that day. Something about the track just stuck to me. I had to run with it till the end.

incredible!
I was working on your acapella, and I kid you not I had the same type of sound, but moreover almost the same melody going along with your voice. sheez;)
If possible, send me an unpitched/modulated aca please, difficult to work with the one you send me (which you had only undelayed).
Back to the song at hand; very strong lyrics. Very political but also very personal. Something that I have always admired about you, a lot. It shows to me how strong you are, and proud. An proud to be black, ah well...if I said I am proud to be white, which I am not, would that make a difference? I think not....;)
What I am saying is that you should be proud with what you have accomplished, right here and right then. Why not work on an album? Or a poetry book? There are so many ideas and topics that you throw out, and all solid on track. I liked the backing of the vocals, the scratching, the nighttime melody, the overall vibe of it. An oldskool classic I would say!
Awesome, my friend.

Marc
Thank you. I always appreciate your honest feedback. You have a way of looking into my song's eye and speaking truth out of your own perspective. This song for me came about so quickly. I was initially going to post another jam here, but I decided to post this one on a whim. I guess when I write I try to be as honest as possible, but try to keep it funky too. I'm glad you recognize that and I appreciate having you as one of the MJers who's ears I have the attention of.

The High End
This is very TIGHT, Mitchell! That high end that sets the pace at the beginning cuts right through the mix the whole way, and really lends this track a sweet -almost pretty- tone. Michael is right: production on this is spectacular.
Your delivery is very fine and measured, and the lyrics are economical, too; in and out in under four minutes! This is a great cut. Walk tall.

Thank you. The instrument at the beginning was actually the first part of the melody that I made. It is usually very difficult for me to find the right sounds for the music (and hard to mix it all). I'm still learning, but I think everything came out pretty well on this one.

Your message really hits home, especially when it's wrapped in your tight production. A lot of wisdom in what you say. It's really easy for me to take in when your clear lyrics are backed by the well chosen backing beats and bass. Solid cut!

The vocals, strangely enough, were written before the beat was made. I had a totally different beat at the first verse and once I made the new beat I grabbed the other two verses from some incomplete songs and combined them to one.

As someone
... who's music tastes have rarely strayed beyond white boy rock, I have found that Macjams has opened my ears to new sounds. Never more so than in respect of Hip Hop, a genre that, in the wider world, seems to have been hijacked by corporatism. Here at MJs Hip Hop is a revelation and this track is the pinnacle of tat revelation for me. Heart and soul are on show here, with lyrical dexterity, wonderful musicality and talent in abundance. I love the production work, that sparse and clean accompaniment and the amazingly accomplished sample work. Reading the lyrics as I listen I'm just stunned at the talent on display. I really love that you use Mastodon and Elephant within a few bars of each other, it's that kind of detail that shows a true artist.
Thanks for keeping my ears open man.
