Description
Found a little funk groove on the mandolin. Starting playing with it. Wanted to see if I could funk out with acoustic instruments. You be the judge.

Gotta get on the good foot like a sex machine!

I wouldn't have known the instrument

Oh yeah...
Reminds me of that guy who played mandolin with James Brown...

Okay, I'm lying. But if the JB's had a mando player, it would've sounded like this...

A totally fun listen, gratefully downloaded. Really perked up my morning....

genre-bending cognitive dissonance
Mandolin chime--funk groove... My head is spinning! Your mandolin sounds great, no matter what the genre... and you've proven that acoustic instruments can indeed have the funk.

Cool...
... this is a funky dirty riff made all the more interesting by the mando taking the centre stage. Nice tones, cool vibes. Dig it.

Mando-Funkus
Nice crossover. The hammond adds that cool touch as well. never heard the mandolin played that way...but it worked. Creative Idea!! I hear Grant Green on the mandolin. Sweet..

Hell yeah this is Funky
Way to go John. This is super cool man. Love the mandolin, but the bass line, drums, and especially the organ hit the spot.

Definitely a very funk ride, but on a Mandolin ? It's great

Funky
but a tad repetitious. Start earlier with the licks and fills.

I like mandolins, and this is pretty cool playing. Enjoyed.

Funky man
this started and i thought...oh no.. it's not what he usually does...and then to make matters worse he's not even singing. But in seconds the riffs started coming and before i knew it i was singing.
This is fantastic and i'm going to write some vocals and send it to you.

I think
you'd be hard pressed to find someone else who has brought sex appeal to the mandolin in the way you have here. I love that you had the idea and went with it.

You made me believe
At first I was like "Funk mandolin?? I don't think so." But now I believe. I dig some of the organ sounds you have. The guitar work is very nice.

Funk mando!?
Ya I'm confused... it does sound like an acoustic guitar. Very cool though. Like I said before you seem to just drop into any style and just have at it. Makes me quite jealous! Nicely done!

I've been singing and playing since the age of fourteen when my brother Paul was working his way through the Beatle book and needed someone to play with. From Paul I learned to fingerpick, play barre chords, and to sing the melody while he sang harmo... [see more]
