Description
I was at my friend, Kyle's, house. He's on here as kepps2113. Another friend, also on MJ as _Rex_, is starting a studio here in the Phoenix area. You'd have to ask them about specifics regarding the gear and all that because most of that is greek to me. We're getting some really great sounding stuff. After spending a day working hard on a song we did this song. I wanted it to sound extremely unpolished. We even used some plugin to make it sound like it's coming off vinyl. So here it is.

Never been to Mexico
I never had a reason to go
I never seen no border towns
Never had a reason to go down.

Excellent
Has a very 70s punk feel. Raw and energetic. Really a great sound. Enjoyed it!

Raw
We were certainly aiming for something a little rough around the edges. I'm glad you dug it!

Excellent wordless chorus!
And you all did a stellar job making this sound dirty and real. It's so inspiring to hear people making great rock music, which this definitely is!

Every now and then you've got to turn it up and let loose. Appreciate the warts and all. Glad you know what we're talking about here! Thanks for listening!

Mexico
it definitely has an excellent off the cuff performance flavor to it.
Sounds like some of that pent up studio angst went into making this shine. Is that a pic of you or JT? the resemblance is uncanny :-)

It's JT
But it's Justin Timberlake... dressed up as James Taylor. ...it was a weird night. Don't ask. And yes, after getting prissy about the "feel of the bass performance" or "should I sing this line a bit longer" garbage it was nice to scream and cough and go with the first take for kicks and giggles. :)

It's Sound Barrier Productions. They're just kicking it up but you can get some information at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Sound-Barrier-Productions/286856528937?ref=ts. The next track I've done with them will be much cleaner. Their studio isn't dad's garage in 1977, apart from the sound of this song.

Great basement band energy on this track. Love your singing as always. "Wo-oh" chorus catchy as all get out. One minute 50. Perfect. Hey, cut it on vinyl and release it!

Well, she may throw away your best porno mags, but she's no fool. Think of the haul this 45 will make you on antiques roadshow. Oh. You may not get that joke being in Germany. Eh. It wasn't funny anyway.

Generational border towns
The whole garageband youthful punk pop thing is very well achieved. I, too, dig the wordless chorus. The lyrics are kind of perfect, says this one thing yet means much more on another level in the whole energetic apathy fine with yourself backyard vibe. Juxtaposition with JT, who is one of my personal faves, made me smile throughout.

Mexico
The irony is, I actually would like to visit Mexico. More Mexico city than the Tiajuana's of the world. It's like a 3 hour drive from where I live and the border town thing is low on my list. So I guess in one way, I am with JT. Ah, James. He rocked my world when my dad was listening to "Steamroller" on tape. My perceptions of JT and my dad have been challenged from that moment onward.

Sometimes its nice to stop fretting about the tiny details and just pump something out. I'm glad Kyle was down with the idea of using his high end equipment to make it sound even more rough than it was.

Great song. I have to look away from JT's smirking mug though... He looks particularly demonic in that picture....
Must be fun to record in a real studio....

Thanks!
He is looking pretty wild, huh? I think a big part of it is that death grip he's got going on with that guitar. Like a baby Hercules to the snake, JT is NOT messing around. It is nice to let someone else push the buttons and worry about mixing!

IS a word.....Reminds me of a surf Ramones thing. Must be fun to play with a band. Last time I did was twenty years ago and we were horrible, but it was still fun........btw howd ya like episode 6.01?

Lennon714 said 2607 days ago (February 6th, 2010)
You're exactly right
Hell, I may even be singing "Whoa oh oh oh oh. Whoa oh oh oh" which would qualify as a two word chorus. I'm a regular Shakespeare. Iambic Pentameter be damned.

Lost 6.01 blew my mind... and I love the writers for still being able to do it. Why didn't Jack recognize Desmond on the plane? I mean, he kind of did, but not like he did in the Swan in season 2. This season has effectively tickled my fancy... and they're just getting warmed up!

Mexico
Haha. Well, truth be told... I'd love to visit Mexico. I'm just really selective of what I want to see. A lot of people here in AZ are all about the border town visit. Just doesn't appeal to me. Mexico City seems like my kind of thing. But maybe I am missing something with the border town.

Glad you liked it anyway!

Eric,

Bro, this is your sound!! Such a perfectly classic punk sound! Your awesome vocals are lodged in the throat of 1979.

Lennon Ramone - my favorite Ramone (after Dee Dee, Johnny, Tommy, JT and Joey, but way before Marky and Richie and CJ and Elvis....)

Without that sort of deep love that comes from feeling the vibrations of those magical acoustic harmonics, the instrument may remain just a novelty, not a synergetic and nutritional life partner...

Hey! Ho! Let's Go!

I owe you $4.99 for this download, buddy boy!

Bobby Ramone (didn't even make the list....)

Bobby Ramone's
Is America's favorite neighborhood-themed restaurant/snuff film emporium. I'm glad you liked this song. When I was making it I was aiming for the "will art school girls get down and dirty with me?" sound.

Art School Girls
Get down and dirty every time.

Your expressive and youthful vox make the young girls "whooooooooooaaaaaaahhhhhhh"

The screams in the background are so much fun, in case you missed them....

Where was I? Oh yeah, art school girls....

They stood across from me in drawing class, but never walked beside me.

art school
Man, then I really missed the boat by doing a business degree. I could have gone to art school and got a Devil's Business degree! yuk yuk. Ooh. tough crowd.

The screams (and cough if you listen good enough) were because I forgot how the song went. Really. I didn't realize I was supposed to sing there, too. The solution for forgetting words is screaming and coughing.

I love how the best stuff just comes rolling out after we have been striving and pushing and laboring ON SOMETHING ELSE ENTIRELY. This thing is an absolute gem. I gotta know what the plug-in is. It is a spectacular rockin' wonder of rawness and honesty. If I hadn't just covered on fo your tunes I wanna do this one, too! DL'd and fav'd!
