Description
Ok, so I can’t wait for one of you eggheads to start up an argument about how I’m wrong in my assumptions about quantum theory and Einstein’s theory of relativity. So here’s my head start:

First, in our physical world time does move forward. It moves faster or slower relative to the speed travelled. That is, time moves slower for an object in motion. In particle accelerators, particles have been shown to move backward in time. However, they do not behave as expected. It is my belief that these particles are not moving backwards in physical time but are moving forward in anti-time. More than likely I have no clue what I’m talking about, so I’m not going to argue with the physicist lurking around here.

Next, Hubble peered into a section of space that was thought to contain nothing. The exposure was left on for several days. Millions of galaxies showed up in the image. It is speculated that the far side of the universe is moving away from us at faster than the speed of light. How is this possible? I don’t know, I was taught that it is impossible.

Anyway, that’s my take on it. Flame away.

I left this song very simple. I had plans to put all kinds of synthesizer backs onto it, some complex layering of the vocals and some extra guitar. After listening to it; this is as far as it will ever go. It’s done. Take it or leave it.

Lyrics
Forever

My mind in its limited capabilities
Cannot even fathom the vast fabric of time and space
My reference is so limited in this speck
That in the infinite universe I am only but a trace
According to the laws of quantum physics
Time not anti-time always moves forward and never back
Ironically as I gaze into the stars I get a snapshot
Of their position from many years in the past
The light bent and skewed to the point that I
See an anomaly of what is in fact actuality
Part of the universe moves in opposition to me
Faster than the speed of light to unknown eventuality

(Chorus)
Forever lies in front of me
Stretching to infinite
Moving as an unbroken line
Stretching throughout all of time
In my lifetime I’ll only see
A fragment of eternity
Pondering at what will be
Long after I am to leave

In a quest to know what lies beyond
We build the means to see farther than we ever have before
We peer into the dark only to discover that
What was considered void has more possibilities to explore
The larger our universe becomes and the more discoveries we make
The smaller our place appears to be
We stretch our imagination so that the places we were
Once blind we can now clearly see
The new discoveries only prove that we greatly underestimated
The scope and the size of the endeavor
That it will take many more generations and enhancements
Before we can understand the concept of forever

(Chorus)

chalenging yourself makes for great MJers, you have done that here Mike, really cool! I like the way you have those guitar parts punch in, then bring in the drums etc. Good song structure, Hawkingesque lyrics, Spock would have this on his iPod. I like the spoken parts, the only other thing I could say is sometimes I notice you toungue tie yourself on the words a little, maybe run thru it a couple times first?
Other than that, pretty awesome job! I think this is one of your best so far.

Forever young
I really dig your lyrics. Everything right in them, too, as far as I can discern. I also totally dig the concept and sentiment. I like that you sing during the chorus, and the authoritative voice you use in the talking verses works well. The guitar playing is kind of straight, my ears wanted more syncopations, more interesting rhythms, but the stiff feel also works with the talking and the rigidity of the mind concept. I enjoyed the thought experiment.

Re: what you mention in your song description - You state that time is relative to speed. Time also moves relative to mass (or acceleration), a perceived gravitational field. Someone sitting on the edge of the gravitational well of a black hole, not moving, might see time go so slowly it will appeared as if stopped from the point of view of an outside observer. Also, light can't go faster than the speed of light, but 2 bodies can go in opposite directions in a sum difference that exceeds that speed. In addition, light passing thru things like glass can make it slow, and we don't really know much about dark matter or other things out there that might affect light. Mysteries abound. Isn't it great? I dig that your song celebrates that as well as our desire to understand.

Tobin for having a listen. I wanted to mention dark matter, dark energy, parrallel universes, string theory, etc in the song, but there is only so much that will fit in a certain time frame.

10−36 seconds after the Big Bang
Cosmic strings are hypothesized to form when the field undergoes a phase change in different regions of spacetime, resulting in condensations of energy density at the boundaries between regions, thus resulting in time travel.

Great work here man!! Loving the huge guitars ..some of your best work man and I love how you are meshing speaking parts with so much class

Very cool Scott
I always new that you were an egghead! LOL! Seriously, I love cosmology, particle physics and anything else that has to do with meaningless science. If I had all day I would have gone off about string theory, quarks, leptons, charm and the entire lot. Darnit, I had to leave things pretty brief.

When I took quantum mechanics in school it was the biggest let down of my entire career. I thought we would be discussing sub-atomic behavior; instead all we did was solve Eigenvectors and Eigenvalues! What a bummer!

Solid & Smart
Really cool guitars I like the impact they have during the verse and the solo is pretty sweet. Lyrically its total science and sci-fi. There was a time when I thought I SAW time moving backward, like facing the wind but that was when I was more experimental hehe, cool song Mike!

Very Cool .....
Track lots of informative information here, all questionable
or debatable but that's always been the case, cause we don't
know 1/4 of what we think we know.....
I do know one thing though, you are right when you say this
is done, anything more would take away from the value of what's
been done already......

To this well thought out and well played track.......

Woah, that bass! Then when the voice started I thought it was my TV! I don't know what you had in mind when thinking about synths, but those guitars are mercurial as is. Love the end.
I like the idea of messing with quantum mechanics a lot. Do you know about Schrödinger's cat and the explanations different physicists give to that? What are they smoking? :-) And that complexity just smells bad. Where's Occam!
OK, getting serious now: Kick ass tune!

For listening. Occam's principles definitely don't apply to physicists. It seems that to them the most elaborate outrageous explanation for something has got to be the right one.
