Description
This is for the Found Sounds Challenge. There is plenty of time to scratch something together with what is in the library!

At first I thought that this was just annoying, but then my wife listened to it and thought that it was good. The idea of the song is the sounds of our lives… How things in our lives give rise to a hectic lifestyle. How we are so busy that we seldom are able to catch our breaths and enjoy anything outside of our modern lives anymore.

We have to keep feeding our machines, our computers, cars – all those things that are supposedly our labor saving devices. They create more time for us so that we can now multi- task and we fill up our lives with busy-ness. What we have gained in convenience we have lost in our own lack of reflection of our own lives.

Jim’s contribution of his aunt’s handbells got me to thinking how we are reminded that we need to slow down and enjoy something beautiful. When the Bells occur in the song they are like Beauty trying to make herself known. We barely notice… at first. And yet she is still there beckoning. Finally, a Bell pronounces herself and we take notice. “Take time, relax, slow down”, she says. “Live and love the life you are given,” she pronounces- a clarion call. And we do. But for only a moment. Then our lives, our machines, our needs squeak back into start up and the Conch beckons us with commitment to return to our modern living.

Sounds used:

Turtle Shell Clave, Various sax compilation by Outaorbit and Jack
Ashica and agogo , Sheet Metal
Conch Shell, Whistles
Accord Start up, ‘da de dum’ by Char
Alto echoes, Metal shelf
Betty’s Bells, Baby

Yeh, Andy, this sums it up in sound. Thank you for Maureen's voice and the bells that are trying to get our attention. It almost makes me want to go out and shovel snow.

The voice... oh , that was actually Char. She sent me a file last year of an idea she had... I was thinking about our other Roxylee / awigze collaboration of FWIW (For What It's Worth) ' You need nature, nothin but nature'

creative
I like using found sounds. In a way that track of mine that you soloed on has found sounds, though they were movie clips. They play with your mind: you try to find meaning in something that does not necessarily have much.

I dig this track. The combination of randomness and your solos works quite nicely.

this is fab. and you've even got a happy cat in there...it was a real cat..right? it kept my attention throughout and i really liked the wandering panning effect...especially on your sax. the build was a great idea followed by the ting ting....and i thought it was over...but no....we're still hanging in there...oh wait...now it's over. i'm going to roll a joint and listen to this again...it's a great headphones trip.
