Description
I tried a different approach to songwriting with this in that I improvised the piano and garbled some notes to make a melody, then went back over it line by line and wrote some words to fit the melody, and out of that came a theme I liked which I brought back at the end.It might make a good valentines song, but its more or less a prayer not that I'm religious, but we all know the feeling of keeping your fingers crossed.Oh Ive got a bad cold too, which is why the 'n's might sound weird in the vocals.

Lyrics
Firefly

Spinning around the moon
When wars below rage on
Here there is no dismay
I have had my time to give in
To all of you
Many have seen the road to their dreams
But I only see your charm
And all of the people you have seen
And helped them along their way
We never let these fears of dying show

There in the evening light
Horizons will shine all around
Mountains will whisper of all time has found

But I never know when you are here to stay..

Will there be summers longer than weve ever known
Forever....forever...?
Is there something that the gods forgot to say
Is it really true? Are they taking you all away from pain
Then let the children walk away
They wont be broken
"Do you see the tiny lights? They guide us through the night to you.."
Will you remember all the roads we shared together
And the fire burned in your eyes

Welcome to the Sun
Our journeys jut begun
Bring in the morning with someone adoring
I can tell you need them - don't forget to show your love
For now..

A crooner coming through
I like this. There's an energy and immediacy about it despite the contemplative nature of the song.

Yes this could well be a valentine's song with some lovely anthemic twists and turns.

I can see the swaying lighters now.

Cheers

Dick

Nice and moody
Kinda reminds me a bit of Richard Hawley's stuff...great character to the vocals on this and lovely piano work.
nice one

Man I am just a fan of the way you write. There's always spontaneity and raw emotion in your tracks. Lovely use of strings. And the piano work is gorgeous

Nice Romantic Ballad
and quite pensive and thoughtful.... sounds like a song from a movie.... love the way this progresses as it goes along and the vocals sound more 'sure' after the halfway mark..... I've told you before, you have a great warm voice .........very romantic and a very nice arrangement, regards M

Atmospheric!
I agree with Steve, this gets better and better the longer it goes on. It took a little while for me to get used to the sound - it's a bit like being at the end of a tunnel and I'd like to be closer. I'm sure that with a few listens (and played louder) this will sound better - I'm already on my third listen.

Hey this
is an alright song. Sound like something for a Central Park at the curb side cafe, love theme, movie scene. Nice over all feeling with the layering. The only thing down about the vocal is it's a little rich on the effects, to these ears. Over all I really enjoy what you have here, a pro sounding production.

This is one
of those very, very rare breed of songs that are totally stupendous.
I agree with Mo that it could be a movie song, but more than that. The movie starts with this, it plays themes from it during the movie and plays it in its entirety during the closing credits whilst the audience weeps. It also plays during the Oscar ceremony. Love the way you think it has finished and then... wham!
You might have gathered that I am in love with this song and you would be right.
Downloaded, of course. Thanks.
Cheers

I love this
but I think I would have liked less reverb/echo on the vox. Beautiful tune man!

Starts in a haunted ballroom?
Just you, the piano and glitterball until a spectral orchestra joins in. Very cinematic in its feel - a bittersweet ballad with a grand sweeping vision.

Stonking!!

cold
I've done some of my most unusual and favorite vocals when I've had a cold. No "n" issues that I can tell. Lovely melody. Love hearing about your process.

cold
I've done some of my most unusual and favorite vocals when I've had a cold. No "n" issues that I can tell. Lovely melody. Love hearing about your process. Beautiful when it opens up to the full orchestration. The deep reverb on the vocals and backing vox is a perfect compliment to the piano.

Starts out
as a very sinatra style vibe with a little of the love boat thrown in then morphs into an 80's ballad. Very interesting construction, and very well sung. I think I agree with Mark that there is a touch too much reverb on the vox but that is mainly a matter of personal taste. Very nice theme in the chorus at the end. I think you could make a 4 min version of this that maintains the power ifyou were looking to make a "commercial" version. Great song man, favd and dl

Something
very comfortable about this. Great song writing and paino playing. I like the approach you took in putting this together I say you try this approach more often, because this came out exceptionaly good!

Whilst the music
is up to your usual inventiveness, careful orchestration, and soulful execution, I find that the lyrics for me are the star of this piece. A wide perspective and hopeful current carries this lovely ballad forward, and it is indeed a treat for Valentine's but holds much more depth than just another love song.

Brilliant Richard.

Many thanks,
Doug

Reminds me
a little of Elvis Costello's more through composed numbers, such as "I want to vanish"......Totally dug this, worth using this song writing method again and again. Can't imagine anyone listening to this, would see you as anything but a sensitive soul.

Hi Richard
Vocally it makes me think of a Sinatra meets Richard Hawley type experience. The big step up at about 5.20 is great (maybe the stereo panning effect preceding this is a bit too much but that's personal opinion). I didn't pick up on any bad effects from your cold - just a great vocal and super arrangement.
Congratulations on this one
Steve
