Lyrics
You're wasting my time
A little bit lovin' makes you mine, all mine
I'm at a loss for words, I'm at a loss for words.

Why must you play so hard to get?
You're acting like we've never met.

You're faking your love
Tell me, sweet baby, who you're thinking of
I'm at a loss for words, I'm at a loss for words.

But having you as a roadie would qualify as a gross misappropriation of talent. How about I'll be your roadie. That's far more balanced.

very cool. love that riffing and the Beatles melodies over the top. makes me think we need a British Invasion challenge around these parts. Great track.

I was using "Hold Me Tight" from Meet the Beatles (or With The Beatles) as a guide. Remarkably, it's the first time I've sat down to rip off the Beatles. It gives you a renewed appreciation for just how brilliant they were. Even in the early days they were lightyears ahead of anyone. This just sounds like some garage band from Phoenix in the 60's.

I'd love to be in this 64' band. We'd give the boys from Liverpool a run for their money. lol

if the beatles had stayed sober
they would have sounded a lot like this. love how this wears 60 years of influence like a african methodist gotomeeting hat. the coolest thing imo about invasion rock and roll is how infatuated it is with roots rhythm and blues and this gives me that same giggle - juke joint, crickets, stax, up through 80's indie and contemporary alt country. The "wooo" and solo are like the filling in the ding dong. i can always count on something new and cool for the ipod from you, a lennon tune is like a trip to the sam goody's cut out bin and coming up big.

Goody Got It
Where? The Warehouse.

Your comments are always so strange and lovely. Never thought I'd read "African Methodist Gotomeeting hat" in my comments, but you delivered. Pop music gets a lot of flack, but it's hard. This is probably a 3 or 4 on a scale of 1-10: ten being the a great pop song. If anyone thinks pop music is simple, then sit down and write one.

You're sayin it's
NOT 1964? ...I am in way to deep...

Is it just me or are the 2 fingers you are holding up freakishly long? Please don't start a forum on my discrimination against long fingered people... it's just an observation.

I may have been up to long....

This is a really cool song even if the solo is too loud ;)
Peace
Guy

well...
I don't want to ruin any dreams. It's 1964. DO NOT enlist in the Army and in 5 years put $500 on the Mets to win it all.

unfortunately, those long fingers belong to Eric Wareheim of Tim and Eric Awesome Show fame. It's a great show, but if you watch it... watch with an EXTREMELY open mind. It's very strange.

Thanks for liking the song!

claps
how'd you get your claps to sound like claps? every time I record claps it sounds like babies farting. this song is great, man. love the riffing and of course the melodies with that little edge at the end of the choruses. cool beans.

Lennon714 said 2624 days ago (February 18th, 2010)
weird
I recorded my 2 year old farting and you think it sounds like claps? Actually, I stole your buddy Twelve Parsecs' note on it. On one of his songs someone asked how he did his claps and he said something like "There's nothing more lonely than clapping 4 times..." So I just did 4 tracks of clapping, put some reverb on them and I think chorus on one or two tracks. But, of course, Scotts sound ridiculously awesome. Sad that I can't even clap as good as that guy.

At a Loss for Words
Love the trebly rhythm guitar on 2 and 4--great recreation of your time-travel band! The chord changes and vocal harmonies are totally fresh...

Listened on headphones too so solo volume didn't bother me at all.
1964 was 46 years ago--hard to believe, but way closer to Benny Goodman than Lady Gaga.

I appreciate your comments. The loud lead sounds good to me until the vocal comes back in and the contrast is just a little too jarring... for me. It think it's cool you're in to it, though.

... you set the quantum mixing desk to one niner six four. That is my favourite number after the number 'z'. I've recently been lost for words but this has got me my voice back. I smiled all the way through this tonight (I faved it on first play the other day). It reminds me why I love MJs. Your work, with others, is inspirational.

Hell yes. I want one. Uh... er... I mean ANOTHER one. It takes a lot of work to sound like you're ripping off someone who is ripping off the Beatles. i hope I did get you kick started. mystery machine
lots of fun, it's very sixties. it's strange it really sounds fresh and contemporary. guitar solo fits the style of the song perfect and not overplayed which is refreshing. overall a solid track. the lyrics seem loose, but i guess it fits (i bet you could do more)the style and swagger in the song. it's funny but i can see myself dancing with scooby, shaggy and the gang in the milkshop when i hear this. i guess that's my exposure to this style of sixties music. ha,ha! i'd be dancin' with the redhead..and fred would just have to get lost! :)

this is sweeet as a nut. How do you manage to get that retro vibe so easily? I would LOVE to get those 60's tones. I actually find it really difficult. Love the harmonies, it all works so well together. Downloaded, fav'd and on my new 'macjams best' ipod playlist.

Sweet as a nut
That's a new one to me. Awesome. The 60's tones are kind of canned. I just use the clean jazz setting and mess around with it a little more until it sounds right for the song. I'm pumped to be on your iPod. Glad you listened and enjoyed!

you sounded like elvis costello on that very first bit, and where is the piano sound from? It doesn't sound like the garageband one. It's real nice for this type of thing.

Elvis
I get the Costello thing a lot here at MJ. I don't know what it is. I don't hear it, but I guess it's there. It's flattering because he's a fav of mine. The piano is the garageband piano with CamelCrusher and all kinds of other garbage to dirty it up a bit.

An exceptionally concise outing
I know I heard this earlier, I must have closed the browser tab on my praise. I like the sensibility with which you write, arrange, perform with controlled energy, and on and on. Anytime someone with as much talent as you does popish rock there are bound to be comparisons. But I'm through with that, with you. I have to have this. Sure, the guitar solo you say is loud could be pulled down at least 4 or 5 dbs, but it SHOULD still pop out of the mix because it does the work of some nonverbal lyrics to round-out the (appropriately) spare lyrics.

I'll open the file back up and back that solo out a bit. But in the meantime I'll complain :). And thanks for the high praise. It was a fun project. Believe it or not, I had to study like 4 early Beatles tracks to get the right feel for a solo that simple. I think there are 4 or 5 notes in the whole thing.
