Lyrics
Over Christmas I went back to the place that I was born just to see my old friends and family.
And the sad fact slowly dawned that there's really nothing else in those shores to go back for.
Apart from ale and pies, apart from ale and steak and kidney pies.
Cornish pasties are a gift (a gift from heaven)
But why do all the pubs close early? (they close at eleven)
And why so surly? (what do you want?)
I know that it's early (what you want?)
I want you to serve me.
And help me, please, to understand how the hell you got a job in sales.
Now I live here, in Japan, and I'm not sure I'll ever be a part of the community.
And the sad fact slowly dawned that there's really nowhere else for me to call a home.
I'll always be a gaijin. Always be a gaikokujin.
Sakura falling into wines at Hanami (totemo kireina).
But it's really hard to find locations so just name your streets.
But you're not surly (irashaimase),
Although it's early (irashaimase)
You're happy to serve me.
Help me, please, to understand irashaimase.

You do write a good tune
Very catchy and likeable. Perhaps the vocals need a bit of a polish and a female backing voice would compliment well. Have you thought of asking if someone would collaborate?

I think that
the vocals are just right for a great Brit Pop sound. There will be a corner of Japan that is forever England whilstever you are turning out tunes and singing like this.

I lke the contrasts that you draw between the two nations....the attitudes between the two peoples...oh well let's not get too deep and heavy ...Great song liked it from the off...See Ya.

P.S. Just eating a pork pie from t'co-op whilst listenin' coincedence or wha'?

Very nifty
writing. Enjoy the how the words fit so well with the music.

Nice singing and like the echoey sections of the other vocal at the ends.

Way to go, nice synth . . .

living in Japan must be exhilarating yet I imagine somewhat isolating at times. Of the short while I spent in China, I missed friends, family and my favorite foods :-) Well sung, and the music was pumped.

Wild!
My thoughts exactly.
Great 80's vibe here, in the best possible way: I love that 'uncomfortable period' when punk and synth pop were trying to find common ground! Choice sounds in this, and your vocal is tops. Thanks very much for the download.
Also, I'd add clotted cream to the list.

Extremely interesting
I like this one. Really thanks for sharing. The lyrics is sensational. I've been to Japan quite many times and it's nice to hear the resonance in this song. Cheers / Mike

You'll hate me for this
but it does remind me of the Artic Monkeys.

Great lyrics - "help me to understand how you got a job in sales".

I really like this :-)

Nice Tune
Very nice catchy tune. Kind of reminds me of Morrisey..particularly in your vocal phrasing. As others have noted, this kind of song would really benefit from some background harmonies, especially on the chorus. Maybe rock it out a bit more on the instruments.

Cool one ste
Very direct piece of song writing, which is not as easy as people think. Nicely done. Great tempo. Head bobbing.

Expat
It seems expats feel the same no matter of origin or destination ;-)
This is one of those cases when you sing about something in particular that becomes general.

Love your
quirky infectious songs.
I might be an expat myself sometime soon, but you are putting me off it. I would certainly miss a bacon sandwich with brown sauce.
The pubs are not only closing early, there are just closing for good.
Enjoyed this.
Cheers

nothing but pies
I like the driving chugging groove, and the narrative style of lyrics work well over it - This seems to be your signature. The understated vocs deliver the message well. Nice separation and balance in the mix, sounds good to me.

Dude. Unbelievable. The music on this makes me want to get up and dance. A different sound from you and I'm really in to it. But your slice of life, picture of the moment lyrics are still in perfect form. Love it.
