Description
One of the early mixes from my solo CD project. Needed a piano part and enlisted the FABULOUS woofer 3 (John Jenkins), the Welsh blues and boogie man. He plays the very tasty piano here. Thanks, John !

Other personnel:
John Whitehead: composition, lead vocal, acoustic guitar
Deb Carlson, harmony vocal
Alec-James Knutson, slide guitar
John Haer-bass
David Hedding, drums, Producer and engineer

Lyrics
Original Sin

Right from the start, we made a mighty fine pair
Then you went and quit me like you just didn’t care
You know what they say about the scene of the crime
The guilty come back time after time

Beginner’s luck, that’s what you had with me.
Gonna come to your senses’ Eventually
You been ‘round the block a time or two,
Now you’ve come back again
Back to where you started and your original sin

I’ve been reminiscin’ about us kissin’
In your old man’s Coup de Ville
Steamin’ up the windows, where does all the time go?
I know you remember it still

Now don’t try to say that you don’t feel the heat
wouldn’t need a feather to knock you off your feet
You know your way home to the neighborhood
Where the livin’s easy and the lovin’s good

Beginner’s luck, that’s what you had with me.
Gonna come to your senses’ Eventually
You been ‘round the block a time or two,
Now you’ve come back again
Back to where you started and your original sin

Boogie woogie
Great stuff John(s). Couldn't you get the other band members to change their names.

Lovely work, vocals seem to start a touch low in the mix perhaps but then it comes together nicely. Great playing, writing and singing.

Cheers

thanks
Nice of you to ask me to do this John, now I can hear it all mixed properly.

I think I said this before, it reminds me of some of those old Sun recordings I used to listen to years ago. The vocals have come up trumps and I must mention the lovely harmonizing by Deb Carlson which fitted in perfectly. An all 'round excellent track with good production.

Applause
Great eight to the bar tune with a touch of C&W. This thing exudes excellent musicianship in all four pockets. The song is also well crafted and enjoyable! Congratulations on this---big hand here! Michael

In a bygone day...
...you could've sold this one to Long John Baldry, with Ian Armitt on boogie woogie piano and probably Ron Wood on that slide...

I could imagine a Ry Cooder version, too....

This has a nice, "light boogie" feel and everything in the pocket...

Everything is so perfect in this. I can't believe you even listen to my songs. Laid back, but still gets you groovin. The piano on this is incredible. Amazing!

Sweet
These lyrics are great. The ability to make your point with a minimum of words that are memorable and provide a hook is a true gift. Having a song start with the line "Right from the start" BRILLANT!
I'm a big fan of brush kits. The song's melody is great. Love the slide guitar solo. The rolling piano implies a slight rumba against the straight groove. It all works great.

great tune
clever lyrics! lots of humor and makes me smile. great chemistry between the piano and slide player. whole group sounds tight and in sync. it's late, after midnight, but i'm suddenly craving a beer. a cold brew, pretzels, and john and the boys jamming onstage, sounds like a good time to me.

oh my gosh
this is terrific John. Your CD is going to be amazing: I'm already standing in line (virtually)for a copy! Your voice sounds wonderfully relaxed and textured here and the arrangement is just right. Congratulations! (And I haven't forgotten that I owe you a piano part; I'm determined to tighten it up before I send it off to you and I will get to it imminently, I promise!)

Ok..i'm going to hit you with some UK references that will mean absolutely nothing to you...but will amuse the brits. chas 'n' dave....and minder.
anyway, references aside....this has me in some bare-floorboarded shack looking out at the rain....don't know why that came to mind...no mind altering substances...honest. your voice is so laid back you're almost singing in your sleep...and as always....it's spot on. deb is similarly easy and understated and everything gels perfectly. well done as usual.

Smoothly rocks, just right.
All is tasty here. Rocks smoothly as a hammock in a cool breeze on a hot summer day. Just the right light touches everywyere, and balance of snark and self-depreecation in the lyrics to keep things swinging back and forth to the end.
