Description
i've been spending a lot of time at the office lately so i've dug pretty deep into my CD collection looking for some variety to help speed the time, and i just happened to take bleach in with me. i had forgotten how good that album is. so i reached for more of that old sub pop stuff, tad and screaming trees etc. man i wish tad was still around. anyway i'd been wanting to do a hard rock tune so those records gave me the excuse. concept-wise i've been thinking about how hard it is to raise a family, i mean i think raising a family is probably the most important thing a human can do, that's the whole point right, continuation of the species and all that, but like any animal when we set out to do that we face all kinds of opposition, all kinds of interference, and sometimes i just want to grab a megaphone, stand on top of my house, and tell the world to back off. this tune is me doing that lol.

The refrain under the solo is of course buck owens.

Lyrics
dog barking
you're trying to talk to me
kid crying
but i'm not listening
let me fix up a drink
i'll try to see it your way
same old argument that
don't mean shit to me anyway
hey
hey

it's only you and me
and the kid in the booster seat
it's only you and me
and the kid in the booster seat
its only you and me
and the kid in the booster seat
and the world can go get bent

you not needing it
(we got all we need right here, right?)
dont' have nothing to do with
(we got all we need right here, right?)
me owing it
(yeah all we need we got right here, right?)
me owing it to you
(all we need we got right here, right?)
so let me fix up a drink
i'll try to see it your way
same old argument that
don't mean shit to me anyway
hey
hey

CHORUS

Loves gonna live here again
loves gonna live hear again
no more loneliness
only happiness
loves gonna live here again

Cooooooool
beyond description. Only thing is that on the chorus & the booster seat part your vocal really gets buried. Great song Craig. In my Itunes.. let me know if you wind up tweaking this one.. I'll come back again.
Peace
Guy

this is peerless
this song would be great in every era. the voice guitar and energy will carry it down through the ages.the chorus blows in like a hurricane the guitar rips through the night. it is yet another song from someone that i hold in high regard as one of the foremost songwriters around.to me it evochs the spirit of Lennon's Instant Karma, and i can't say any higher than that

david
guitars ripping through the night, great rock and roll image. glad you liked it and big thanks for the lennon nod although it's too generous. i'm going to have to check out this thenpowell person, if he writes half as well as david murphy he'll be a great addition to MJ...

Gutsy
guitar tone. The glitchy breaks are inspired. I can see you and the fam listening to this pulling in to the piggly wiggly. Scaring the bejeezus out of everyone in the parking lot. Abrupt ending? Check. Love it all. I'd like to see the angry Tempie come out to play some more. Just don't get on the roof. It's and sing. It's kind of a Kid Rock move.

Love's gonna alive here
Off the charts Craig :-) Your vocal is "defy me!" :-). The guitars (especially when they get dirty) sound massive. Super mixing chops here as well. May be my fab yet! I know I keep saying that..lol...but seriously this hums Like a live wire.

this
was not easy to mix. i've got more work to do on future tunes like this one, i think i can get a bigger guitar sound...this is big, but i want huge on the next one. but thanks for the listen dude, i'm always waiting to hear what you think of it. your new tune with gaylen is all that, really enjoying it.

northwest
man we had this great little indie record store, you know the kind, and they had all that sub pop stuff, and it was revolutionary, all those guitars...we'd been listening and playing 80's brit pop, the cure and smiths etc etc and that first mudhoney cd blew my mind, so visceral and earthy and freakin american, i changed how i wrote after the first note.

Great one Tempie! Cool distorted guitar sound; awesome grungy sound. My favorite part is that funky run-up at 3:17; that's so cool!

Yeah boy!
Great tune Craig! I agree with guygrooves re your vox being buried in the chorus. A remix is in order.

Hey! Wouldn't it be cool if you could get scofugate to drum live on this thing?

Love the ferocious guitar work throughout. Roots-Punk!

Be well friend!

Lava likes
Crunchin' good. A lot of attitude. The whole sound is well done. Love that wild guitar on the right speaker. You have something that can't be taught.

You're a very talented dude

Scooped..
.. love that scooped out riff. The driving rhythm carries the song along and great lyrics. The solo is great stuff, love how it frays and unwinds but never quite falls apart.
I'd redo the bass, deeper, more scooped - is it midi? It doesn't fully blend for me. I'd maybe also look at more vocal doubling, deeper and chorused out, though that may take it more into Alice in Chains territory. Stop starts are good, though the hihat repeat sounds artificial. Great stuff though.
Love that you're rediscovering Tad, Moudhoney (and I hope, Pond). Meanwhile over here I'm rediscovering Superchunk, Seam and Seaweed ...

yeah
i'm remixing this now. you're right about the high hat. you're dead wrong about the vocals though LOL i hate chorus... i'm going to widen the bass in the mix - it's too light. this tune is a mixing nightmare, but almost have it where it needs to be. i'm going to post a link to it when i've got it ready.

superchunk is my favorite all time band (i've got a nod to them in my shoe show tune)...phone sex is one of the best love songs of all time.

Superchunk ...
.. yeah any band Mac is in is awesome. I'm working on a new tune with the provisional title "Hot, like Laura Ballance". I've been reading the Merge records book lately and it led me to dig out the Chunk, Seam etc CDs. Man that Chapel Hill scene rocked.
Send me an mp3 of the remix - if you want anything done to it let me know - the LQ16 is waiting ...

Nice.
I like the 90's feel going here. I think your voice is well suited to this type of tune also.

lalala
hey, this is terrific.
dirty guitars, original melody and interesting lyrics/content > great
i think you could bring the vocals a bit more upfront (compression, eq) and just make them a bit more dominating.
but apart from that it is a very very good song.!!
keep it up like this!

fav'd

cheers, Luke

Nice Family scene..
but I think someone dosed the Kool-ade. Something creepy about the suburban lyrics with the crunchy wo-wo gitarzzzz. You ever see Penelope Spheeris' Suburbia ? Great Flick before she started doing rehashes of old sitcoms.

back off
I love that image. You (or maybe me someday) up on the roof telling the world to back the f*ck off. Nice. Well put.

This song is tremendously gnarly. Loose and tight at the same time. Audaciously tempestuous. Dramatically disingenuous, but sweet. Well, kinda sickly sweet.

Plus the guitar tone is ace.
