Description
another from the RPM challenge (this thing is kicking my butt). I have been trying to mix my love of electronics, 60's pop, psych, and indie rock in all of these songs. Luckily the indie rock background is allowing me to be really sloppy on the mixes. I just finished mixing (i think). I may do better mixes after this thing is over. But here is another tune. I was having a crappy day when I wrote this, so my goal was to make an over the top sunny happy song. By the time I was done, I had to laugh, and the bad mood was gone.

cool one, and hey there is some of "The Monkeys" style here.
One heck of a happy tune. I'm going to sit in the sun tomorrow!

So Good
How can't you like a head bobbing tune like this?

M2, you did an outstanding job here. Drums real?

You know someone like me would dig this.

thanks
the drums are EZDrummer, I tapped them out on keyboard, and spot fixed the areas that were too out of time. you can hear LOTS of mistakes in there, haha. glad you liked this one, was pretty fun to do it (although I am glad the challenge is over).

good day sunshine
sloppy? no way!
This sounds like a lost track from Abbey Road sessions.
I'm really impressed with the quality of everything in it.... too many good things to count in this comment. Alright, the keyboards, chord progressions and twin guitar solo are particularly cool. the stare at the sun line is funny :)

thanks a bunch. i was obsessed with pop sugar on this one. the solo was bothering me for some reason, so i layered that synth in there just to make it uglier. thanks so much for checking it out.

Sounds good to me.
The mix is okay. Maybe the vocals could be more up front, to make it sound more like an AM radio top forty song. Reminds me of Lobo and Bobby Goldsboro, but that's reaching back a ways. It also comes close to ripping off I'd Like to Teach The World to Sing but sort of tangentially so I don't think you'll get in trouble there. Bruce Johnston would be proud. Now I feel like drinking a Coke, maybe a Cherry Coke.

thanks for the listen man. I really wish I could get a better vocal sound going, all in time I suppose. It's funny that you mentioned the coke song: i recorded the whole tune, then added in that organ part (just recorded whatever came out of my finger tips on the first pass); and immediately that was what I thought off. maybe I should have taken the organ part out. thanks so much for listening. off to go check you tube for Lobo and Bobby Goldsboro.

Oh yeh you did a great job with this one. Love the arrangement, love the 60's - 70's pop feel - reminds me of so many cool songs growing up. I really like how you did the vocal harmonies. A total gem - thanks for sharing your work!

Very cool
Love the bopping along beat on this. The staccato piano part under the verses is very cool. Drums sound good. I would bump your vox up a bit more (1-2 db). I think the solo is a bit too quiet too. Vocals are very good as always. You are one of my favorite MJers and this song did not disappoint. Excellent job.

thanks buddy
glad you liked. as for the vox being louder, I was starting to get fried ears and really wasn't hearing much detail anymore. i may try and remix some of these tunes though. thanks for stopping by.

Good therapy.
If you dont win that challenge you should put the album out on CD baby or something. All this creativity shouldnt go to waste.

the act of doing it was pay off enough for me. have been not very creative in the last few months, and it's because I am busy and tired. this gave me a kick in the pants and actually got me doing something. thanks so much man.

Probably more
"alt pop" than "indie rock" M, but a cool listen nonetheless. Not crazy about the crackly effect. To me it detracts from the song rather than adding anything to it. Maybe given time you might get a bit more sparkle out of the mix, but considering the time constraints, this is pretty amazing writing and performing.

it's funny, part of the distinction between the 2 genres for me is that indie rock allows for technical imperfections and alt pop is smooooth. haha. thanks so much for stopping by and listening to this half baked stuff.

Mr Blue Sky
A sort of lo-fi ELO song...but very catchy and well put togther.
There's a few minor glitches in the drums but what the heck, it adds to the charm..and it might not have the same feel if it was too polished.
I like the chord structure in the middle 8.
Good way to start this monday morning
cheers

ahh yes
drum glitches are there for sure. have been trying really hard to get better at drums (and I think i have), but there is always something. i may try and remix some of these, and I am glad that they have been appreciated. thanks so much for the listen and kind words (as well as honesty).

Finding way around
Love the vaudeville McCartney feel, the ebb and flow of the arrangement, the way the drums come and go, the happy feel, the idea of waiting til you go blind so you can find your way around. Nice job. Could use a slightly smoother mix, as the e pno and drums sometimes are louder than others, but the home recorded Ram feel, the do it yourself low tech thing you have going will suspend expectations for lots of these kinds of warts. The fun is more important than technicals. Nice work. And congrats on finishing this!

Congrats Michael!
I downloaded all the tracks yesterday. Great job man. Not an easy challenge to survive with life going on around. I like the clarinet addition in "Sugar".
Here, the live feeling in the drums is great, you are becoming a virtuous keyboard drummer ;-). Nice touch with the subtle voices around 1:23.

that's how to make it alright
a little pop sugar dude. i'd lose my mind if i couldn't write happy songs. i love those little organ flourishes in the chorus, like flowers blooming, so cool. also really dig the feedback on the solo - you use it in a totally unique way - almost as accompaniment - cool, cool. the best thing about your tunes is the stuff i can steal from them :)

Perfect ...
... at least from my point of view.
Timeless, sweet pop with a nice touch of grain. There's a touch of Brian May to the solo, in fact there's more than a touch of very early Queen to the whole thing. Wonderful. This is why I come to MJs.
Ipodded.

My kind of sugar
This is so far up my alley even the mailman won't come 'round. So perfect. Wish I could do 'em like this. That solo is so cool. Sweet enough to joke around with but I wouldn't let it babysit my kids. Here's to bad days and the songs that kill them.

From what I've heard
You did a fantastic job on the challenge...... Im guessing your wife is more understanding than mine, or perhaps I don't much of a spine..... I had a friend that I used to play music with, that after much harassment, still refused to be convinced that the Beetles were superior to the Monkees...... the hand played perc add a nice organic feel.

As many commented, it's unavoidably smile-inducing: great job for a bad day! I wanted the vox higher in mix too (love your singing in any case!)
