Description
With the last snow having melted from my yard yesterday - I decided it was time to post this last ode to winter.
This song was written when the east coast of America had been hit by blizzards in early February 2010 and originally titled ‘Snow Day’. I demoed the track as a guitar piece and particledots added some additional atmospherics. Marissa Anich’s disembodied voice makes an appearance towards the end of the track stolen from a voice mail message on particledot's answering machine.
Basic tracks and vocals by bud - additional instruments and mix by PD.

All Fall Down is track #2 of our RPM Challenge entry "Let Your Mind Stay". The RPM Challenge dictates that a CD of at least 10 songs or 35 minutes in length be created from scratch in the month of February. Bryn Corbett aka Particledots and Kevin Jones aka Bud embraced the opportunity to work together long distance (Phoenix AZ / Brooklyn NY) having done so in the past along with Michael2 and others. The first week Bud posted 5 demos to the shared drop box (mostly guitar - bass - drum ideas) which Particle proceeded to run through his blender. What came back were often radical remixes enhanced by synths and other sonic perversions. Bud then added vocals or some other noise and stuck it back in the box. So it went back and forth without a word spoken and virtually no comments or directions via email. Along the way Particle produced a couple of tracks from scratch and eventually we had an evening chat as we approached completion - followed by two new tracks and a flurry of remixes. Many thanks to Bryn for collaborating on this project - I had a blast.

The rest of the CD can be found here: Let Your Mind Stay at Month of Sundays

your voice
has a Beck sound to it, you and Mr Particle go good together, I like the lazey laid back shoegazer sound. BTW the Mix is spot on!

One of Beck's techniques is to slow down
his tracks - which is what Bryn did here. On the CD - some tracks were changed before the vocals and some after. This was after - so my voice was slowed and lowered in pitch. I think Beck did a lot of that on Sea Change. Bryn sure did nail the mix - that's for sure.

no no no
:-)

that is the original pitch of your voice - i just made it sound like you were singing through your hat

the track is definately pitched down from the original demo tho - i just cant help myself

:-)

Oh you're right Bryn -
And I actually was singing through my hat. I recorded the vocals at work in a conference room to the pinhole mic and used my Kangol cap as a pop filter.

All Fall Down
Cool spacey relaxing tune. Would go perfectly with watching a snowstorm, so I think it is true to it's genesis. 10 songs in a month! That is flying.

We actually ended up with eleven
kind of crazy - and full of compromises - but well worth the effort. The snow stayed around for a while - I kind of miss it now.

Michael is tops in my book too
The Velvet Smog (he lives in L.A.). As much fun as Bryn and I had as a duo - I'm looking forward to our next APOD project with M2. Always nice to see your smiling face.

It's a whole 'nother thing....
...over headphones than it is over speakers... The atmospheric aspects really come forward....

A neat vocal from you, Kevin...

This one happened quickly
slowing it down was Bryn's brilliant idea that set the tone deeper.

Melancholic
and slightly mournful....just like Winter really ,so that's good!

For a 'silent production' it's turned out a treat well done guys.

There's a great short story by Conrad Aiken
called Silent Snow, Secret Snow that informed this a bit. I read it many years ago but it has stuck with me. Check it out if you get a chance.

i know i told you this already kevin, but every time i play this song, i am inspired to sit down at the piano and doodle around, kind of launching off from this. it doesn't take long before it DOESN'T sound like shoegazing anymore (lol), but i really want you to know how much this song gets my creative juices flowing - so DOUBLE thank you - for the great listen, and also the inspiration.

winter
We're hopefully experiencing the last movements of winter over here these days. It's been a long cold winter. The song you have here is just perfect for the kind of mood my surroundings bring on these days. Cool mystic tune.

Haven't had any time...
...to be at home yet, and as of such not been able to listen to the CD you gave me. This sounds so awesome! Very psychadelic, but with an indie twist. I easily sink into stuff like this, get hooked in the mood, transpired. The guitar and the vocals works so well together, and everything is tied together with the atmospheric clouds. Bravo!

A truly worthy ending of the cold season. Now even I am looking forward to spring (arriving here in Stockholm as I type...) Thanks for sharing this gem.
