Description
Whats this one about? I’m not sure really. A jumble of thoughts and feelings. Evelyn street is a real place in Nottingham, the old sign is there on the end of a brick wall on what was probably a row of Victorian houses, but now it’s just empty waste ground. I used to pass it every day on the way into work and think about the lives that once lived there. Evelyn street is I guess also a metaphor for a tricky emotional up and down back then. Say no more about that but got out of it. The songs in various pieces, ( bit like my head at the time!).Another solo recording.Mark

Lyrics
Evelyn Street

Just because we can
Doesn’t mean we ought to
Just because we want to
Doesn’t mean we should
It’s a passing obsession
No need for confession
It’s all in the mind
It’s all in a look

I’m into your life
But out of your circle
I’m into your life
But out of your circle
Cos I just don’t pray like you
And I just don’t feel
The way you do

The dappled light
In the apple orchard
Nobody lives
On Evelyn Street

I need to get out of here
To Evelyn Street
I’ll disappear

It’s the clean air of time
The cold sky solution
Feet snapping twigs
Like broken bones
It’s a fragile world
Pure and clean
It’s the colour of time
Beauty untold

Nice
I like the interesting melody and arrangement. Nice lyrics...there are alot of phrases that stick and leave alot for individual interpretation. Nice guitar sound all the way through and meshes well with the beat. One suggestion from me. The song seems to want to go into major chords on the final chorus. It night be interesting to try that out and see how it sounds. I think it would make for an interesting change.

hey mark. really liked the hook that came in around 50 and that sets the tone for the rest of the track. and then there's a really nice sixties feel that kicks in at 1.50...nice harmonies...would have liked to heard them slightly louder...but that's just nit-picking. yes i really like this.

Mysterious!...
Im a big fan of songs that look back into how times used to be. the intro is greatly setting the mood and very inviting..at 47 secs in..excellent phasing hits on the groove...like one victorian brick falling down one by one as a lonely stranger watches in the mist. The backing vocals support very nicly and come in in all the right places. this song with your description took me to a program i saw when i was a kid - think its called what ever happened to the likley lads. The intro to that had lots of images of victorian built houses and you got a sense that people were knocking these great places down to make room for new buildings...which i was think is a shame...as some of the greatest buildings of the uk and nottingham are over 100 years old.
i wonder what happened there??... and of course where it was?
mark you have done a great job bringing Evelyn street To life again!..

Evelyn Street
This is very much a stream of conciousness type of work given the way the lyric changes subject matter, and the music changes tempo. Yet despite these changes it remains a cohesive work. Tight playing on the acoustic, and the minimalist percussion is tastefully integrated. Vocs evoke the mood of the piece well.

Nice song
pondering what may have been and what once happened to an area that was real and once a thriving community. This has legs and should run.Good one .

So sad.
The houses and even the street vanished. I remember a movie made from the story, "The Time Machine". I was struck by the changes in the surroundings as the time machine progressed forward, until there was obviously a war and devastation and then there was a barren landscape without a sign of civilisation. The Morloks were a nasty lot, but that wasn't the part of the story I was referring to. Such a fine voice you have. :)

Lovely idea
and name for a song. Really enjoyed this - I think it's very catchy and I will download for further listens.
You know - I could hear this as a tv theme for a show called Evelyn Street - would work wonderfully.
Cheers
Len

Evelyn Street
I like the deep words closely following the melody. I also like the way you don't give too much away- it makes listeners use their imagination. This is a song to come back to. Many thanks,
