Description
Here is a combination of about 6 different mixes I did for Michael 2's 'Acting So Strangely' which was originally made for the RPM challenge.

first section (0:00 - 0:45) is the very first reference mix i did - raw vocals (from me - no treatment/reverb etc) very little backing track in the mix, just a few synth elements

second section (0:45 - 1:25) an alternate full mix fades in (not posted anywhere else)

third section (1:25 - 2:15) an almost a cappella section - just the vocals, bass and synths

fourth section (2:15 - 2:40) another almost acappella section - different treatment on the vox and no bass or guitar

fifth section (2:40 - 2:55) a brief interlude with the original raw untreated mix

sixth section (2:55 - 3:30) a mix with just guitars and bass and vocal

seventh section (3:30 - 4:15) just synths and vocals again

eighth section (4:15 - 5:04) michael 2's original rpm mix

I thought it might be interesting to post this to illustrate the dilemmas that you are faced with when you start to deconstruct and reconstruct a track. Many options and possibilities start to become apparent.

Unfortunately, no matter how much you may want to, you can't use all of them

See if you can spot the joins where the different mixes fade in and out

:-)

This would make an interesting game
of musical chairs - grab a seat when the mix changes. I love them all - and find this works really well. If you hadn't said anything no one might have noticed - just another magic blender concoction. My wife just said "I really like this." She has a good ear.

4-dimensional slice of music
so interesting to hear the different versions melt together. It does give a glimpse into the mind-boggling choices we make to create the final product. Bryn, this is a brilliant idea for aurally diagramming the process of creation and refinement. Kudos for this, and Michael really shines here too with such strong material.

great job
Wow - I can hear the amount of talent in every consideration you made on this tune. Overall, it was very laid back. I am going to have to revisit this when there is less going on to appreciate the full impact. Nicely done y'all.
