Got It Down

Description
So here's a new ditty i put together yesterday. As always, it's not nearly finished, and needs a lot of work done to it before i'll be happy with it, but i desperately need a break from it as a genuinely don't know what to think of it. I also need some help. i feel like this tune need a lot more variation, but i would also LOVE it if one of you talented 'jammers' out there could stick a solo of some sort over the glaringly empty section before the break. it could be anything, saxophone, jazz flute, organ/ piano etc, i just wanted something a little more 'organic' than what midi has to offer me. Of course FULL credit will be given where credit is due, i just feel like i've hit a wall with ideas, and don't possess the musical ability to do anything myself!
I am also going to upload an instrumental version, just in case anyone wanted to have a stab at some vocals of there own, as again, i have a feeling i will end up hating these.
As usual, constructive criticism is fully embraced, on performance/arrangement/production etc, the more brutally honest the better for me.
Enjoy!

Got It Down
Michael, what a great track. Your vocal is outstanding. I agree a nice solo would help fill things out. Maybe a little tightening of the piano rhythmically? with a slighter softer sound (less bright)?

Small small nits. Thoroughly enjoyed.

yesss!
the sound of the piano in particular is something i wasn't sure about! i'll try softening it up a bit, see how it sounds. Thank you very much for the kind words ktb!

Hey!
Where ya been?! Spending a lot of time on this doozy by the sounds of it.
Great poppy tune. Vocals take the prize on this one man, very good as always, especially the harmonies. I hit a wall every song I do. Hope you break through it soon as this is really good.
Oh and the lyrics are great too!

thanks man, always appreciate your support. I just have to wait now for ideas to come around because i can't force it. You know what it's like to listen to a song over and over and over until you're sick of it. That's what i have here. Thanks again!

love your stuff
Do you know how good this is? There may be some more instrumentation needed, but this is top notch music. Great tune and thanks.

great start
sure it can use some more elements. But the song right here is pretty darn solid in concept of where it could go.

yeah, you got it
Great way to start this spring Monday morning.
Your use of melody, harmony and instruments is excellent.
Your vox are great though there is a tiny tiny wobble on the 3rd line which is not a great problem.
Love the sort of 'soft shoe shuffle' feel of the drums and could see someone doing a dance to this.
Now go away and don't come back till you've got a record deal.
You make me sick :-)
Great stuff as always.
cheers

haha
I'd love to see that dance! I'm glad you liked it, there's so much i want to with this, i just don't possess the time or ability to finish it off. Oh well, at least i managed to get the idea down, which is more than i normally do! i think i've a little way to go yet before i start thinking about record deals haha but i appreciate the support. Plus, who needs a record deal when i have all the support i could ask for here.
Cheers mate, hope you feel better soon :)

Michael
You've got it going here! I know we are our own worst critics, but I'm here to tell you that this sounds so good to me!!! It will be worth following this one to see what our talent pool adds to this!!!!

great tune man
it's got a hip swagger that doesn't need much in the way of instrumentation. the acoustic guitar, handclaps and tambourine in the intro are really enough imo. the backups in the chorus are great. i'd lose everything else man, do it like acoustic blues. great tune.

well
first of all - WELCOME BACK! man, i've missed mckenzie music. this is excellent! I love those hand claps, great groove. I think your lyrics are clever and flow. Your vocals are excellently relaxed and loose - perfect for the piece. I agree that the piano could be softened up a bit and that arpeggio synth might be a little loud in the mix. otherwise this is as excellent as always. you're amazing.

Impressive
Top notch production. Excellent mix and combination of instruments. You've got a very good voice and record/mix it very well. You rarely hear this kind of producion standard on a free site like this. Equally rare for one person to have both the musical and technical talent.

Song writing is solid and I could easily imagine hearing this on a commercial or movie intro. Have no idea why I haven't come across your music earlier! The synth is a nice addition - reminds of Seal's 'Fly like an eagle'. Only thing was the line 'you don't understand...' towards the end. Got just a tad bit repetitive. I'd play around with the structure and see if there's a chord/key change possible somewhere in the second third. I can even hear a solo instead of vocals at 2:27 to give that line a little break. Could easily be 40 seconds longer. Great song...

Get ibstrat...

McKenzie, this is another really good one...

Loved it!
Great professional sounding production and a great song to boot. I agree with ktb about the piano need to be less bright and maybe use reverb or just some pedal. Otherwise awesome song getting my vote.
