Description
OK well Spring is the season of love right? And candy. And baby animals. The season of twee. And here's some seasonal fun.

From Paddy: Craig sent me the words for this song, accompanied by a horrible little midi bassline that had an awkward time change in the chorus. This made life difficult for a straight 4/4 man like me but I persevered. I sent the resulting post-punk instrumental back to Craig where he added his magical vocals. A quick mix through the Caryatid desk, with it's Focusrite Liquid Mix 16 offboard compression and EQ and this is the result.

Lyrics
mary ann in accounting said
you wanted
to date me
i was kinda surprised because
i thought that
you hated me
i don't know our wires got so crossed
i wanna meet you in the lunch room and get lost
in your eyes
in your eyes

i hit a double for the softball team
(at the company picnic)
we went off behind the trees
(at the company picnic)
a little workplace relationship R&D
the bottom line is you and me

the guys on the sales team say
they heard that
we're an item
my boss is giving me high fives in the hall
and he knows that
i don't like him
its funny how love makes us all star crossed
i want to meet you in the lunch room and get lost
in your eyes
in your eyes

CHORUS

i never thought that i would make it
a life of status reports and visual basic
but now when i get off the bus you're waiting there
the place still sucks but these days i don't care

CHORUS

Company Picnic
Cool concept for a song, and the lyrics develop it well. Many should be able to relate to this. Driving beat is a good foundation for the wall-of-sound guitar. My only nit is that the vocals are obscured in places by the tracks. Maybe some eq sculpting?
It's great that your protagonist works in Visual Basic. We developers need our images built in this area :)

EQ
I made a conscious producer decision to leave some of those words buried, kinda fitted the feel.
As for VB developers needing image boosts, well I'm more than happy to give you guys the credit you deserve. What next? C++ Rock balladry?

And I wish
.. we had company picnics. The best I get is a stag weekend in Bratislava every couple of years.
Glad you enjoyed our work.

You must be a bad ass
If hitting double in softball gets you laid. I hit a double at our family reunion softball game and left empty handed. But the song is right on track. Like I'm in a club in Athens, Georgia in 1986. The drums and then how those guitars roll in... so nice. Flawless storytelling. I've never been close to a situation like that in real life, but the details make it feel familiar. Great job again, guys!

Athens, Georgia
Damnit even when I'm not singing R.E.M. comes up! Craig's little story here is a beauty and inspired me to some of my nest guitar production to date. The Ibanez, the Dot Studio and the LP all feature here. This time the amp was in the kitchen ...

Driving guitars
DVP is like me having my very own lyric writer and singer. Craig understands my guitar groove almost instinctively and we manage to knock out songs very quickly and organically. Thanks for listening.

Sense
I knew I had some kind of sense!
It is a cool tune. Great singing from the boy from Virginia. I like to think of us as Elton and Bernie only less camp!

Many thanks
For sharing this diamond. Hilarious and very, very human. I almost never listen to this style but enjoyed every second. It's a hit. Gives Green Day something to worry about! Love it. More, please.

Thanks
Kind words Richard. We do work hard on achieving a little humour and humanity in our little pop tunes. Green Day? That's big shoes to fill but we'll take the praise!

dynamite R&D
Great post-punk sound for this office ode! As usual, some priceless lines as well as sounds: "I want to meet you in the lunch room and get lost" is hard to beat. Does the fact that I really like this make me old?

Applause~
cool song lads. like the major seventh chords and the vocal echo.
the bridge was great too. not an easy feat to make the phrase "visual basic" work in a song LOL. but of course Tempie can do no wrong in the lyrix dept. Lots of fun, hope to hear more from the Pipe.
