Description
more of a glam psychedelic song. i kept the lyrics simple because i'm not suppose to have time to write out a detail thing if i'm to busy. i did try to treat each section a little differently, for the heck of it.

Lyrics
One Moment

one moment please
i've got so many things to do
i can't spend time with you

it might take a minute
it might take me a day or two
sometime i'll get around to it
when i've got nothing to do
just a moment please

i can't stay to long
so many things i have to do
and where will it all end

operators are standing by
to take your call
no special offers today
i'll return your call
please stand by

one moment please
one moment please
i'll be with you soon
i'll be with you soon

there will be a day
i can't do nothing more
maybe if i made the time before

one moment
it's all i need
one moment
it's all i need

The blending of different guitar tones is definitely your specialty. They are all sounding good here, and you are in good voice.
Cool chord progressions are pushed along nicely by the dramatic bass line. Guitar solo is cool.

Thanks Dave
i do spend some time on each track going through different tones before i even hit the record button. some tracks even got thrown out and/or redone.

Thanks for the listen!

There you go!!
You have the coolest stuff!! I love the way you use un-traditional chords together and make them rock.
Soo so so professional, and The vocals are top notch and the guitar is so classy man!
Triple Kudos!! Love the break at 3:00--very sweet

I've found that the first 2 chords can be anything even if not in the same kay. it's the 3rd chord that that's important to bring it around. The break I wanted to be very different to break up or break down the song.

Thanks again!

Yes, yes, and more yes!
I can taste a Lennonish flavor to this Vic, which certainly appeals to me. The guitars are great here, All of them. Thoroughly enjoyed. Thanks for the post. Terry

You are too cool for school man
this is such a wonderfully sly song - full of twists and turns - while being shy about the whole affair somehow. Trippin' good fun.

subtle twists and turns. thought it would be interesting to vary the parts in approach here. i had additional off the wall guitar parts at one point, but ended up throwing them out..... would of been to much.

Vic strikes again!
Man this is sooooooo cool! Just a touch of Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds. I'm curious how you got the "by" in the line "please stand by" to sustain for as long as it did. That was a way cool effect.

As always, great guitar work and vox!

by and by. you just have to ease into it to sustain it. plus, i also have one vocal track that has a effected reverb (logics space designer plug-in) that helped, like singing into a abyss.

Dont
often hear a nice acoustic tone accompanied by the cool effects going on here (well I don't) and I like it. Your vocal seems to fly around the instruments which gives it that psychedelic vibe.
Love the lead guitar that accompanies the vocal towards the end.
Cool
Vic Holman said 2729 days ago (April 1st, 2010)
Thanks Ed.
i thinks i stole the idea from radiohead or porcupine tree. the end solo was on a lark and just jamming before i had lyrics and vocals. it was going to be taken out. but in the end it seemed to work and stayed in.

Excellent done as usual Vic but I'm getting a little darkness here.

Interesting stuff.

Certainly
got the psychedelic feel of Beatles songs among others Vic.... great musicality here and I don't know just how you go about arranging and producing stuff like this... you must have a very ordered mind.... it sounds just great and you got the style off to a 'T', cheers M

order comes from chaos. i work it all out on a guitar before i start recording. quite often changing parts out and sometimes the original idea of a song even gets thrown out, it just evolves.

gorgeous sound
to the taylor acoustic you are using here. Very clean sounding especially since it sounds like it may have been plugged into the guitar directly. Is this one of those Fishman internal mic/bridge pickups? Anyway, this has a very 60's psychedelic vibe. Very ethereal sounding. Vocals came out very well IMO. Enjoyed it.

the Taylor is a 14 years old. it does have a fishman. but it's a early simple model that's not the best in my opinion. usually i have to leave the onboard eq flat and use logics eq plug-in to give it a bit of life in the mix.

I appreciate the listen!

sometime's it's more difficult to break down a tune to bare essentials at times. there were quite a few track regions that got cut out of the starker parts. makes for easier mixing too. i only had to set basic levels on this.

sometimes simple is the most powerful
Very cool vibe, sort of early Floyd psychedelic, and I love the idea of stretching an entire song over the idea of "just a moment please", very well done.

Oh, and about that croissant, just a moment, I'll get you one, it might take a minute, but I will get it to you soon.

always worth a visit
Interesting chord progressions, and effective interludes. I like the treatment of the vocals - works great with the faint synth and sound of the guitars. Solid songwriting as always, the drum fills I wasn't too sure and the rhythm guitar could be a bit softer during the solo. But the psychedelic interlude right after the solo is brilliant.
Another song as good as your artwork, which says a lot:)

a moment...
to build a song on.

Love the intro. And those ethereal vocal backings. This is new Vic... you showing a new level of your vocal talent that really compliments all your other ones. This song is seamless with so many parts (many psychedelic delights), all working and blended together. Got to love it.

i really turned on the effects for the backing vocals. the vocal that starts off first was run through space designer (a echo plug-in) to simulate singing into a small cardboard box. who thinks up that kind of stuff

this one got off to a slow start. it was about half done and sat around for a month before i came back to finish it. because it sat for that long i had to relearn it to so i could add the bass and synths. I really should write down the chords to songs when i do them

For the heck
In general I'm a great advocate of change for the heck of it, but I'm not too enthousiastic about that processed vocal in the beginning. Other than that, your guitar work is great as always. The bleepy bits later on were unexpected, but appreciated.

just a eq thing. some like it, some don't. i thought of it as being for a distant feel.
the bleepy bits came from a sculpture synth that i set up. i have always liked those type of random sounds.

Your chord progressions are always taking twists and turns - they are unusual but you do a good job of making them fit together and flow nicely. Interesting little vocal interlude going on around 3 1/2 minutes. Nice work - enjoyed listening - thanks.

I'm liking...
...the renewed prominence of acoustic guitar sounds in your stuff, and what seems to be some experimenting with the vocal sound...

There's definitely more front-to-back space in these mixes than there used to be, less of a flat plane of guitarness....

On my headphones, it sounds like the vocals could take another dB or two of prominence, just to get some lyrical clarity....

Ed
Vic Holman said 2724 days ago (April 6th, 2010)
Thanks Ed.
since i always work on songs starting with a acoustic, it seemed best to keep that prominent. there is a 2nd acoustic that i used sparingly. seems one can work very well if placed right. it was kind of a on the fence thing about vocal level. on my speakers they seemed up enough. but maybe a revisit and a compromise between the phones and speakers

Big sounds Vic
You show incredible restraint beat-wise Vic - I'd let this take off on the drums way more (not a nit, just a fact). The acoustic sounds great up near the front. Your leads seem squeezed out of some magical tube of "interesting lead breaks paste" - love that sound. Cool synthy song.

Solid retro freak-folk
Definitely a nice psychedelic feel but more retro than a lot of today's freak-folk indie. Great melodic progression at the start, nice doubled vocal, the way you use them on those alternating/intermittent lines. Pretty dreamy stuff. (And your cool art here and elsewhere doesn't hurt, you've done a great, um, rebranding! (Did I just say that on the off hours? Sorry.) I don't have a problem with the simple lyrics, it's all in the story you're telling and the way you tell them. Not to tick-off our friend Michaeal for stealing his favorite "reference band," but it could be said that you've got a touch of the early Moodies (Days of Future Passed) in here.
