Description
I've been a little serious lately so i felt like it was time for some fun. Bobby D says this is "dirt track rock n roll" and i think that pretty much sums it up.

Lyrics
i met a girl at the amoco
she had a
yz80
with a bungee corded radio
she introduced me to joan jett
i took her brother to the wwf

and friday nights we hung out at the roller rink
friday nights we hung out at the roller rink
friday nights we hung out at the roller rink

i met a girl at the bus stop
she had a
trapper keeper
and she liked to do the body rock
she showed me how to get to 2nd base
i showed her how to buy pot behind the IGA

and friday nights we hung out at the roller rink
friday nights we hung out at the roller rink
friday nights we hung out at the roller rink

She sounds
like a girl you'd meet at an Amoco station. This was good, raucous fun! In style and delivery it rather took me back a few years (well more than a few, but I hate to admit to it!) Great job!

actually
i think it was a mobil. but amoco sounded better. it's funny that now the 'kids' are mining the 80's for sounds. that might have been the last chance for a natural childhood. no cell phones, no internet, no cable, no vcr's. you had to make your own damn fun. glad it took you back!

Funkin good stuff
Whoa dude. This is totally cool! Man the abrupt changes are bad ass. I still haven't figured out how to do that yet. I'm envious.

Sick grungy guitar. Awesome man!

Gotta love the all-american punk sensibility here. The chick with the yz80 - hope you married her dude, can't let one like that get away. Great tone on the Delta King, the breakdown with the organ is cool, the good ol two stroke is a nice touch - genuine yz80 there?

YZ80
man i liked the girl but i LOVED that bike. while doing this song i went out and looked and there's a ton of 80's YZ's out there. problem is my wife thinks i endanger my life/life of my kid too often as is. i need a strategy...

Top 5 chorus of 2010
And I understand that it's only April. When you sing "out" it gets so real I can touch it. And the unique storytelling is honestly some of the best out there. Unabashed slice of life stuff that sounds like a phone call from an old friend, and not in a hokey way.

top FIVE?
dude. top two maybe, because if you get too lovey then nobody will take you seriously. but five? why not thirty? 'that's a top thirty chorus. for sure. in April. A top thirty April chorus.' LOL!

man if you've lived thirteen years you've got enough for three novels and a discography. add two more thirteens and well you do the math.

Dirt Track Rock n Roll
I like when you have this much fun with your songs. It takes me to a great place in music history when I enjoyed watching small outdoor shows that were free because the bands just wanted to come to sunny Florida and see all the chicks in cut offs and bikini tops.

The guitar arrangements are really well orchestrated. I love that first expressive and whiny lick you play in my left ear. It's the same treatment you give when you say "Out!" It's that fearless skateboarder approach where you throw yourself way up into the air and do something crazy and then you deal with trying to land.

Love the sloppy lead break and the video games in the back ground. Did I hear Mrs Pac Man and an air hockey machine?

The most curious part is the weed whacker at the end.

someday
we're going to play a show in F-L-A for those bikini tops and short shorts. and when you throw your sweat bands into the crowd they'll go CRAZY.

the weed whacker is an ode to the summer job

I could roll to this any day. That assuming I could figure how to skate. That B part is insane. A serious B52 jam hap'n there. Love it.

"she introduced me to Joan Jett' - to this day I fondly remember friends by what they turned me onto to. :-)

i discovered
the B-52s in a bargain bin at sam goody's, their self titled first album, along with the Clash's 'give 'em enough rope'. Those two records fueled jr. high..

Trapper Keeper
The spirit of the 80s, bottled and transmitted in under 2 minutes of rock! And with an inescapable chorus to boot... Nicely done--but I had to play it a few times in a row because I just wanted more! (Ultimately a good thing--far better to leave the listener wanting more than less I think!)

freak out disco
man i chaperoned a school event where my daughter's class went roller skating - i hadn't been in years - like i don't know 20 some years and man it all came roaring back - what a blast. i came up with this tune as i was rolling around (by myself of course, she was hanging with her buds)...

I like what you got here Craig
But it seems to me the vox is buried behind the bass drum and the Rhythm Guitar. That could just be my ears failing me again, but I'm not sure.

Great high energy track my friend

my vocal mixing ideal
is to put the vox squarely in the middle of the mix so that they're just another instrument. definitely not the radio ideal but that seems to be where they sit when i hear a mix that doesn't make me cringe

Any tune with Rat in the title gets a 10 in my book. Great story. "I showed how to buy pot behind the IGA"! Genius. The lead at 1:16 is so tinny and wacky. I love it.

Another really, really catchy tune and great listen. I can see from comments that a yz80 was a bike but what is IGA (you have to make allowances for us backward foreigners)?
Enjoyed this.

IGA
is a grocery store - when i was a kid a lot of small town independent grocers operated under the IGA name to compete with the 'super' markets. i only know of one of them operating around here these days. glad you liked the tune man i appreciate the listen!

New! Fun! Ever-Changin' Zany!
Love the extremely dirty guitar in the latter jam. I've heard of hot-rod songs and biker songs, but this... is it a dirt bike song? A bus song? The story you tell is hilarious... I'm nodding in a way that makes me glad I'm alone here, because it's the nod of identification with what you... ahem... the character has been up to. And again: Bungee corded radio... that's some great imagery. If you want crit, this is just my preference, but I'd compress the hot high-EQ on your vox. There's something new, interesting and damn humorous at just about every turn here. Effing great tune, performances, arrangement, Craig.

By the way, that chorus has become a good buddy to my ears with those chords cross-cut the straight-ahead sung melody. The whole thing is smartly simple.

Love the lyrics ("I met a girl at the amoco", classic and funny) The clean guitar playing the single note line adds some great new wave vibe. The funky instrumental breakdown is cool. Fun stuff.

Crunch guitars
Man it's good to see Tempie with a slice of distortion - I'm gonna kinda take credit for influencing that....
Your vocal production here is outstanding. I have to agree with Eric, that "out" is just perfect in the mix.
I love your little hymns to small town American pastimes. Even as a "foreigner" I can taste and feel the nostalgia, experienced for me through countless films and TV series.
One of your finest moments, a gem among other gems.
