Alaska (2009)

Description
This was my second attempt at this tune. I'm really not so satisfied with it, but I spent some time on it and it isn't that bad. It might have something to do with the timing.

I hate metronomes and I wish GB would have some 3/4 or 6/8 beats, just so I could keep in time.

The original demo http://www.macjams.com/song/55438

Stay tuned for my 3rd attempt later this year lol

Lyrics
Alaska

Zipping up my raincoat
fore' I go to the frozen sea
Weather is changing
About twenty degrees

I don't know, what I should be

I'm on the dark side
Wait for the morning light
It's not a-coming
But, I will wait all night

I don't know, what I shall be

Oh when I'm set free (released)
Oh when I'm set free (released)
It will be, you know it will be

Sitting on a rainbow
My truth has finally come
You won't have to bother
You see, I'm already done

I found out, what I will be

You belong to me
You belong to me
Just wait a see
You know it will be

of course
"pink floyd" comes to mind simply for your trippy sense of rythm and vocal delivery... always cool. Dave... good one. awaiting the next one.

north to alaska
i like the primitive sound, that 'i was sitting in a shack waiting for the thaw and thought i'd record a song' sound, like bon iver or great lake swimmers or whatever. all that reverb. cool. bass is especially good, simple but pulls at the heart strings. i like this tune a lot.

You stole my
Johnny Horton reference. I'll go with the more obvious Johnny Cash then...

nice draft
I like the overall song. You can cut up a drum loop and make your own 3/4 loops with a little work. I like the 3/4 time here, gives a rolling feel. Look forward to hearing some harmony (either vocal or guitar or something) to beef up the chorus.

I too
wish there were more 3/4 times in GB. Make your own though like I did on midi. I think your voice sounds great on this Dave and the timing sounds OK to me. Nice song with a melancholic feel.... has a nice haunting, longing feel to it, cheers M

what drak said!
I use logic. But I thought you could change things around to get a 3/4 or you could make your own. Or!!! you could have a drummer from here put one down for ya! I think it needs a drum. Otherwise a great writing!

nice!
I'm with Davis, definitely some Pink Floyd style coming through here. Really nice texture to the guitar.

This is...
... great. As much as I love hearing it in its simplicity, I would love to hear it in a full-band sound. But everything sounds fine here and I really like it! :)

When it's Springtime in Alaska
It's 20 below. I'm really digging this. Can't imagine why you'd be disappointed. Kind of a Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want thing going on. At first I wanted to hear some pedal steel but by the end I was glad you kept it kind of bare. Very honest feeling.
