I Fell Behind

Description
I am back in school, and Nicole is going to have our baby in a month, so haven't really had any free time at all. Sorry I've missed so much music, and wish I had time to record. So I feel like this song is appropriate. I recorded it for the RPM challenge in February, and it's basically about how there is just too much stuff to do in a day (fun and otherwise). At the time, I needed to do a bunch of yard work, finish the RPM record, and a bunch of other stuff. The pace hasn't slowed down yet. Plates full, but it's all good.

Haven't listened to any of this stuff since I recorded it. Sounds pretty good for the amount of time I spent on it, but i'm wondering where the piano went. It doubles the vocal line, so I guess if you listen really hard..... some of the lyrics don't use proper english, but it's a rock song.

This is a 3 minute pop song, and I didn't write a bridge for it on purpose. I am such an adherent to the traditional pop formulas, that I like to try and dispense with some of it from time to time. Hope you like.

Lyrics
the clover is on the hill
there's so much of it
i'm not sure what to do

the leaves are falling down
there's so much of them
i'm not sure where to start

and I
i fell behind
i fell behind
in all the things I do

and I'm
i'm stuck like glue
i fell behind
in all the things I do

i just can't believe
all the things there are
for me to do today
and i
i'm so wrapped up
in so many things
in so many ways

and I
i fell behind
i fell behind
in all the things I do

and I'm
i'm stuck like glue
i fell behind
in all the things I do

and I
i fell behind
i fell behind
in all the things I do

and I'm
i'm stuck like glue
i fell behind
in all the things I do

Very interesting sound in the intro. I love the lazy groove. The vocal performances, arrangement, and production are impressive. It's a well written song. This is a winner.

Mr tambourine man
Digging the drum work. I'm not sure the tambourine is real or sampled (I would love to know it's the real thing :-), it doesn't matter anyway, I love how it makes the song flow. It's like the song would be empty if it wasn't there. And it would also be empty without the little happy synth et animals that are always around you when you sing.
BTW, I can hear the piano in the chorus quite well.
Your songs sound like simple pop songs, but man, there's something deep behind.

the drum track is made up of a loop that i slowed down, delayed and distorted and a junk kit that i put together from samples. most of this song is just instruments that I made from samples. i really love EXS24. so much fun. thanks for listening.

Love that snare
Did you do that in your secret lab or did it come like that? Very nice. Solid melody. No bridge? Perfect. From time to time I think we put bridges (or choruses, for that matter) in songs because "that's what's supposed to happen" - whether it's necessary or not is almost secondary. Leaving it out here is smart. Song works so well I can't imagine where it would go.

that snare is a mixture of a few things: a loop and some kits that I put together from junk sounds, and the EZDrummer vintage kit. i distorted the loop a bit and ran it through the free TAL reverb on a plate setting. eventully I ran it all through a send, EQed it as a group and bounced it down to one track (forced me to commit). thanks for the listen.

applause!
great song. really like the three-part vocals. (I think I counted 3 parts).
the burbly synth touches are nice, I find it very difficult to blend that type of thing in with a guitar rock type of song, but you do it so well.
good thought regarding throwing out the bridge, song didn't need one!
Enjoyed!!

yes
This truly is a 3 minute pop song.
I can hear this is many different takes and it will still stand up...but your take on it is brilliant.
Love the guitars in the background.
Maybe the keys could have been bought up a bit but that doesn't take away anything from it where they are now.
Great stuff
Enjoyed

who needs a bridge
I love pop songs that are perfect in their simplicity and this is one: a bridge would have ruined the mood! And I definitely identify with the lyrics...as I imagine everyone probably does. Amazing EXS24 work too--you coax some evocative sounds out of that bundle of bytes.

RPM
Michael,

this is one of my favorites from the album downloaded (thank you very much). It took me three tries to hear it in it's entirety. Just kidding. Those whirring guitar and electro sounds that are stranded in the distance have such an amazing mood altering effect on the overall feel of the song. I imagine this without it, and it's still a great tune, but this pushes it beyond. I learn so much listening to your songs. You'll never know how much!

I guess one of the trade offs of being a great dad/husband is that whole time thing. I'll probably post my time song one of these days. Started it last night and it's so bare that I'll be embarrassed to post it. Actually, I always post my songs that way.

Never mind.

This song is a great song.

Thanks for another download.

PB&J
Sounds to me like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich tastes like (grammar?). And I like those. Sweet, sticky and oddly satisfying. Eat too many and you'll feel sick - and that's referring to the lyrics only. Fall behind on too many things and you're 'stuck like glue' in your mental fog of things left undone. Double vocals, synth swirls, panning, continuous bass, faint piano etc...amazing how much you can pack into one delicious song, going perfectly with the lyrics.
Still listening to your 'Tranquility Base' and now enjoying this one. Very cool. Ratings should be way up, not sure why they're below, hmm...10?
