Description
A prophesy. A sworn enemy. An undying love. A legend.

-----------------------------------------------------

This is done in basic GarageBand with some Symphony Orchestra Jampack instruments and one drumbeat loop. Since I didn't know when I was creating it that GarageBand can accommodate fluctuating tempos and time signatures, I created each theme as a separate MP3 and imported them all into one file.

I love me some MacJammers!
Thanks to everyone who commented on my draft. You were all very flattering and helpful. I tried to incorporate most of the suggestions (though I couldn't find a better whistle, Eduard, sorry!!) I had a lot of fun with this song but I'm really glad I can walk away from it now! Ha ha!

Harmonically Beautiful
Great chord changes. I like the 2nd section with the brass and strings, quite dramatic. Great dynamic build. Who doesn't like a gong? Love the harmony vocal at 4:49. The production and mix are excellent.

well
I was going to come back tonight and leave some detailed thoughts on your draft, but you're one step ahead of me and it sounds like you've reached your tolerance limit of this song....lol. This is quite an epic journey and extremely enjoyable. You make the music shift effortlessly between moods, very difficult to do. The opening is gorgeous and the harp section is lovely. The more energetic parts are completely engaging. You've told quite a story here. Very well done Erin. My only constructive criticism would be about some of the mix. Not sure if you are past the point of caring...lol - I VERY much understand that feeling, but if you would like any more details, just let me know and I'd be happy to give you some more thoughts.

This is a really great composition.

Y'ur dune fine
Adore what you did here, as I mentioned in your draft version of this, gorgeous bit of epic writing here, great composition, nice orchestration, definitely tells distinct stories and moods, your singing is luscious... I see you subdued the panning a bit, separated the strings a bit, sounds good to me! Next, we'll work on equalization on different tracks, and adding a little matrix reverb... bwahaha... you're doing great! Can't wait to see what you pull out of the hat next!

Hi SMG......
Awesome. Very well thought out and put together. Nothing lucky here. All fits very well and, to me, your choice of movement and instruments/voice within the mix are all good.

I read the book many years ago and saw the film not so long ago. Your mix would fit really rather well.

Take care.

Very cool indeed
Paul Muad'Dib! [Or Usal, to his mates] Dune. A great book. And, in my opinion, a most underrated film, with a stunning soundtrack.

You've certainly done a good job on this, and it could most certainly be played as a soundtrack to the film. I agree that maybe some eq-ing is needed on individual tracks to separate them some more, but it's a great composition nonetheless. Oh, and you've just had a thumbs up from my wife too. She came in to listen. And that's more than she does with my stuff!

Nice one.

Hey - didn't I just comment on this?? (LOL) This is great Erin, truly epic, and you are learning fast! you actually CAN change tempos and time sigs within a song in GB - it's all done on the Master Track! You did a great work around though - very creative idea! Wonderful music - congrats!

Dig this
No matter how you did this, you did an excellent job. You're quite talented in my opinion.

Could, in fact, fit with Dune.

Absolutely love the variation and dynamics. This is why it could be a nice soundtrack.

Well done.

Some really nice chord progressions here, across different themes. It all coheres nicely though. Vocals sound great. I read all the books, and this feels like it would really fit.

Wow,
that IS really impressive. I agree with just about everything they said, only I haven't read the books or seen the film. I always thought I would some day, though, but again, now I am not sure I need to. Think I'll just listen to this one more time instead...

OK, then, thank you Eduard for sending me hither :-)

Whenever I see Parichayaka and Drakonis monikers, it's like a gilt edge seal of approval. I always then check out the piece. I don't think I can add much more to what's been said. The vocals are lovely. No idea at all what it's all about, but heck I've got my own interpretation, so Thumbs Up!

deep
captivating opening - nice panning -
great piano tonality in my opinion -
and playing as well - music does carry the
message-bearing-prophetic aura - you are so talented -
this is so deep - the way you depicted marching - and an invasive ominous sound starting at 2:10 - at 3:19 - the clear
rhodesy sound is beautiful - broken minor chords . . . the vocals/layering is/ are so gorgeous - scott horwath

ROFL
I knew exactly what you were referring to with this song title. You are also a sci fi geek... cool. I think you could improve your piano sound. In GB I would recommend the Steinway Piano but use matrix reverb, not the slider bar reverb. Use the multiband compressor on the overall mix in the "master track". I think you could also use panning more. Keep bass and kick drum in center but pan instruments all to different "places" by having them at different pan levels and sides.

Very cool piece here. I think you could really bump it up a notch with some mixing. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. i am no expert but have learned a few things from some smart people.

You definitely should look at using Logic for your mixes - you have a ton of talent and it would be great to open you up to some of the broader capabilities that it allows. Maybe also consider a symphonic sample pack as well, since you use strings and horns and these packages can help with a bit more control and realism if that is what you are after.

This is piece wonderful - the theme around 3:28 has me mesmerized. It is beautiful. The vocals are haunting and perfect. As with your other work I've been listening to the story development through various themes is entrancing. A really entertaining listening experience!

I like the made for TV version of Dune as well which had more time to roll out the story up to Children of Dune.

Thanks for the dload,
Doug

I have the Symphony Jampack now, but I don't think I did when I created this. I am moving on to World next, hopefully, unless I do end up plunking down the cha-ching for Logic. I also enjoyed the TV version of Dune.....didn't think Paul was as cute as Kyle MacLachlan, though (I am a woman, after all...that matters...hee hee!)

Wow!
I have watched various pieces of the movie on TV just this week. It seems like it's on every night. I can imagine your piece as the main soundtrack and it would be as good as is there originally.
Much as I like it (the movie, and your music) the taste of your voice that you provided is like that taste one gets with a really great pizza sauce and you can't stop eating it cause it just tastes so good. And it leaves you waiting for the next bite. More of that please. Just because you aren't pleased all that much with your voice, doesn't mean it aint good. I don't think anyone really likes hearing their voice for a while so you just have to let us decide. I have decided. Let it go girl. You can see from all the favourable comments you are receiving, we want more.
Thanks.

"Fluctuating tempos and time signatures?"
Yeah, that got my attention, just from the description.   I had to spend the next 8 minutes to give this thing a closer listen .. and I’m very glad that I did.

Like the other compositions by this artist, the sound is well-executed (all things considered ...), fits well together as a total musical unit, and never lacks for variety, both in arrangement and in instruments.

For example:   whereas many artists would pick a theme and run with it in various full-orchestra manifestations, at 3:17 this piece unexpectedly introduces an altogether different (and hauntingly beautiful) theme featuring harp/plucked-strings, then develops it for the next several minutes in an unhurried manner, including an overlapped vocal aria.   All leading up, eventually, to a very processional finale.

Creativity, mixed with variety, mixed with restraint.   And, “well-mixed.”   A musical journey that I was very pleased to take.
