Description
every once in a while I'll pull one of my cheap guitars and jam around on the weekend. i was playing around on my robo tele, actually a fender squire telecaster, that I have had for several years. the song developed from that. after working around with it for a hour I trotted up stairs to record the guitar parts to record the song before i would forget it. so the rhythm tracks are the tele and the lead is a epiphone dot deluxe. all the guitar tracks were run through logics amp simulators. i decided on tough lyrics, and added those a week later........ because i was really lazy to do them earlier.

Lyrics
I Left In Eden In Waste

i saw you pull the pin and drop the bomb
flashing lights behind my eyes
the pressure was is much ringing in my ears
burning effigies as enemies
pistols over eden the sky rained lead

to many times it explodes in my face
to many scars across my face
and eden has been laid to waste
i left eden in its ruined state

tracers of bright red streaked through the night
it keeps replaying in my mind
we talked of peace in gentle times
and barbara eden can settle down
reality and dreams can come to odds

to many times it explodes in my face
to many scars across my face
and eden has been laid to waste
i left eden in its ruined state

we lived in eden and brought it down
all the rage has burned out
the bells stopped ringing all over town
no one stopped from looking out
maybe and finally things have setttled down

to many times it explodes in my face

I looooooove Barbara Eden
Great rocker Vic. Your cartoon bunny got a new fangled axe. Sweeet!

Nice gritty guitar sound. I gave away all of my cheap guitars. Too bad. I'd really be up for the cheap axe music challenge.

For a cheap axe you sure make it sound pretty sweet.

Nice work!

who doesn't fantasize about barbara
i almost did use nothing but cheap instruments, all under $180. i have a bunch in the closet. i still take them to play with.

Love the guitars Vic
And all the rest too. That's some killer licks in the break too. I think for my taste, the bass could come up a few notches to drive the song and better match the rest of the energy you've got going on here.

Very cool track my friend, a definite rocker !

Psychedelia
Lovin that riff and the psychedelic 'verb over the vox. Cool tune and great delivery Vic. Has a slightly lazy production quality that lends it some real edge. A hit.

i double tracked the vocals, second track I dropped the levels down some. they do have some reverb. double tracking does give it a bit more presence. i did go for a little lose stones vibe

I
Think we'd have heard this song sooner if jeff goldblum had got into that teleporter with tom petty and the doors instead of that stupid fly... As long as jeff is a ripper on the guitar of course!
This song is clear and punchy at all volume levels, very catchy and expertly executed.
I'm currently fiddling with the new amp sims in logic and am struggling with them. Sounds like your not having the same problem.
Cool tune.

Vic Holman said 2649 days ago (April 21st, 2010)
logic amp sims
you do have to tweek them. i also found you have to match the right guitar with them. sometimes i have spent a whole evening going through them just to find a good tone. i end to like the older models with full gain, especially the pawnshop prize one.

what does i dream of genie have to do with this? Did she shoot somebody?
i liked the tune great until the solo and then i loved it. really like how your soloing is informed by a retro vibe but doesn't laze around in it ... shows up in a bowling shirt driving a Tesla. or something like that.

well Craig.....
she shot down my fantasies at a early age. i think the solos are a mix of clapton and blue oyster cult style. next time I'll put on my faux bowling shirt to get the full impact going

a fender squire (Strat)
My first electric. I really ought to buy a Tele.

Now, this is very refreshing because it gives you a different sound and I like it when artist mix it up a bit. It actually has an organic, raw sound.

Actually, one of your better tunes. Just letting it hang out. Loved it Vic.

i have two squire strats. ones a mid '80's that has locking tuners and noiseless pickups that i installed. i have actually use that one in the past. then i have another one that i got for free when i bought a amp several years ago. i think i played that once or twice, but it does sound good.

Cheap Guitar
I remember that guitar!

Sounds great Vic! Sounds like your robot tele is from Texas, but we know it's not. The epi also has that very dusty road sound to it.

Your vocals are tough too.

Good song man. Sorry I haven't been around much, but I carry plenty of Vic Holman in my iPod holster, so I really haven't lost touch now have I?

larry hagman was always clueless
i was surprised how well squire sounded myself. and it stayed in tune during recording that was a plus. throwing in a barbara eden line was mostly for a laugh, but since it was a song about eden....why not

I Left Eden In Waste
Very cinematic lyric here - an action adventure song really. Chorus feels like a late 60's psychedelic thing as does the lead break. Good groove, nice chord progression, vocs are sounding good.

I loved Barbara Eden. I hope no genies were harmed in the making of this song :)

no genies harmed.....
... otherwise i would of been turned into a goat. i thought some hard story lyrics would suite the feel of this the best. so these are the result.

thanks for the time to listen

Barbara Eden was a tv star back in the '60's, who played a genie. a real fantasy gal. she doesn't have much to do with story, it's one of those lines to throw in for a bit of a laugh.

thanks again for the listen Marc.

Tele
There's always room for a Tele man at my table. There are times I like my Squire Tele more than the regular Tele... and neither of them has a kick as robot painted on it.

Love the choppy tele work. The perfect amount of crunch. Great songwriting, too. Lyrically sound but still makes you hum along.

THIS is you working fast ? Damn!
I can't decide if the lyrical conflict and loss of innocence here is personal, geopolitical or both, but it's well-told, evocative. --> You're prolific, yet with quality that belies the high productivity. LOVE the power and the lead work, reminiscent of psychedelic fare but more contemporary -- it's that fine-ass finger-trem technique of yours. -->Your vox is great here. Mix-wise, I tend to mix my vocals maybe a touch low, whereas I tend to wanna turn yours down 4db and tuck it in as an "equal band member" as opposed to so far out front. But that's a subjective matter; the mix is fine, really. --> By "robo" Telly, you couldn't possibly mean a gizmo like Gibson has like the axes they sell with built-in tuners and tiny servo controls to turn the pegs.... not if it's a "cheap" guitar.
Check out my latest song called Happy Birthday (Na Na Na Na)
Vic Holman said 2646 days ago (April 24th, 2010)
thanks Bob
no the lyrics are just words. no gizmos on the guitar just a robot graphic that i did. it's as low tech as you can get. when i do have a song i do put down the guitar and bass tracks in a sitting (except the lead in most cases) then I'll slowly get around to the lyrics, vocals and final mix

A nice break...
...from the more flanged/phased/chorused guitar sounds... This is a bit more bare, and has a nice crunch to it, a nice presence...

I really like that solo... Great energy....

Ed

Vic Holman said 2645 days ago (April 25th, 2010)
Hi Ed
nope no efx's. i just wanted to be a bit raunchy on this. i used the logic amp sims relying on some of the old smaller amps with the gain all the way up and twiddling with the eq dials and maybe some room reverb. that's pretty much it.

Man - smack me in the head with that first chord chop
I love it. Nice raw sound to this one - very direct and in the groove. Really excellent guitar playing and nice tight structure. I think you've found a whole new sound here - a more stripped and rock steady thing with a more direct punch. I'm ordering seconds and desert please.

i'ld like to say that i labored over it, but that wasn't really the case. the song started more or less as jamming around, the framework of the chords came together quickly and i recorded the guitar parts after i had practiced for a bit. i did use logics amp sims, older small amp models worked great here.

thanks again Tom

I worked at Eden for 30 years, so the lyrics are rather entertaining for me.
