Description
This track was digitally remastered from an old acetate recording I had made for the TinTone label ("To protect your records, use only TinTone scientifically designed needles") in 1929 when I sang with Basil Fomeen and the Cliquot Club Radio Orchestra. Special thanks to Mahatma Kane Jeeves.

"Let's Misbehave" was written by Cole Porter in 1925
Vocal: MJK (credited on label as "with vocal refrain")
TinTone Disc #CBEP469-5-11
Artwork: Pioneer Hoochie-Choochie dancer Hedda Lettus and her tailor (1927)

A Treasure From the Vault!
I love the way you captured that vintage tone in the vocal. Although I think my computer needs a new needle. Another classic by our resident jazz vocal master!

..I hope I never remember the combination to that vault after this! Thanks as always for investigating my stuff and for your kind words Andrew--you are an artist I greatly admire and it means a big deal to me! Take care now, Michael

Let's Misbehave
The language has changed quite a bit since then, let alone singing style. Great how you captured the phrasing and intonation from that era. Is there a plug-in to add pops and hisses? Great job!

Hi Dave
Actually, I have a Mp3 a friend sent me titled "Old Vinyl Record", although I think "ancient" should be substituted for "old" in that title. If you'd like a copy of it, just drop me a line at michaeljayklein@yahoo.com and I'd be happy to send to you. Thanks for taking time to listen to this deal and for your very supportive words (I really worked harder on this than it sounds!) Take care now, Michael

Can't get....

... enough. Michael, you capture the twenties. Bring on the flappers, the coonskin coats... where's my flask? Twenty-three skidoo... I'm with you bro. This is entertainment.

What's the pass word?!
You got it buster! Actually, the 1920s were a VERY great decade for music--it brought us the likes of Irving Berlin, the Gershwins, Jerome Kern and of course, Mr. Cole Porter, who is represented here, and the modern stage musical, beginning with "Show Boat". I don't think this will bring back the Charleston but I'm happy you enjoy this old gem. Thanks again Jack--take good care now! Michael

Aye
Excellente.

I really should get my voice on MJ. I do a killer Ol' Man River in the original key several times a year at different solo gigs I do.

This is great Michael.

Hi Andrew!
If you can do "Old Man River" in the original key--I hate you! But all seriousness aside, I would really like to hear what you sound like! I've enjoyed your songs of the sea (my biological father would have adored them too--he owned a marina in California and spent his entire life in and around the sea), so keep up the good work! Thanks for stopping by and for your kind endorsement--take good care now, Michael

Way to go Michael!
This is brilliant. That's quite a backing band you have there and another fine vocal performance. Cole Porter wrote some brilliant songs didn't he?

The plug-in Dave B wants is http://www.izotope.com/products/audio/vinyl/

Hi Dick
Thanks for listening and for your nice remarks! I think Cole probably wrote the most "sophisticated" songs of his era (I mean, some of lyrics, even today, raise an eyebrow!) and this may very well have been the very first of his songs to become popular. Thanks for including the link to that old record sound effect too! You take care and hope you enjoy your weekend, Michael

let's behave
how do you make it sound like you really are back in the past doing it with them. i can imagine you sitting at the bar of some speak-easy in between numbers...sipping a margarita...and women fawning at your feet....and the bartender is saying to you, "No sir, YOU are the caretaker. You've always been the caretaker. I ought to know: I've always been here"
great job michael. i especially look forward to your little ad-libs at the end.

Drinks are on the house!
You sure can paint some images with your words Julian! I like your scenario, although I'm afraid I'd have to switch a Diet Rite Cream Soda for the margarita (those were good though!) Thanks so very much for taking the time to listen to my weird old music and for your always encouraging words--take care now! Michael

I normally just sing--the tracks are already recorded from elsewhere, although I tweak those quite bit (when I had a Casio keyboard I added my own piano or other voicings now and then) and add other effects, etc. I'm glad you enjoyed this song--you take care now! Michael

I was thinking of you and your love for those old Mummy movies when I slapped this up! The places I worked were too cheap to provide a megaphone--used a rolled up menu instead, worked just as well. You take care now! Michael

20th Century Master
You've got such a great voice, perfect for so many incarnations of 20th century pop & jazz. I'd love to see you get a forum going to put-together a virtual band of similarly-qualified jazzers with whom you can go forward and amaze. If not, I guess if the backing tracks come with rights, all is still good with the world.

Gotta love Tobin's quip about the university sweater and megaphone.
