Description
I had to wait till the ash clouds are gone to post this song ...

This is one of my older ones too, so embarassed I was to remain idle so long, I wanted to share, at least this one for now ... Listening to this, I was thinking about flying, hence the name.

IMPORTANT to mention, I have no performance credits at all, on this song. It is made out of ready-made loops, so anything you hear on this, was NOT played by me. I only put together those elements to make a final mix and arrangement.

I hope you enjoy, and promise dear friends, my next one will be something more authentic.

gentle glide...
I like the smooth feel of this, generally. I think that although the female synth vox was a fun surprise, it doesn't quite fit in this more "atmospheric" piece... unless you pushed her waaay back and added lots of echo to have her float in on a distant cloud. Other than that, your choice of sounds and guitar (forward and backward) were really tasty.

Looking forward to more, "after the dust settles" :-)
ttfn,
Drakonis

Applause!
Yves, I live rather close to the airport here in Minneapolis and when I walk my dog at nights I very much enjoy watching the planes in flight and how they light up the sky--it always fascinates me. I have these loop programs myself but it would take me 20 years to create something as awesome as you've done here. I enjoyed every moment of this--thanks for sharing it with us!

I really
enjoyed what you put together. It is authentic because these were not put together in this order before. I agree with Eduard that the female voice was too loud and abrupt, maybe. You could get an actual vocal that would fit well and you could use throughout. It was a flight of fancy and bliss. :)

Thank you !
... so much for your appreciation. Although I prefer a more direct way of creating music, I thought eventually this one would be OK to listen to, it was still around on my hard disk.

I think that
messing about with loops is probably as difficult as playing about with instruments...I would imagine chopping in the wrong place sticking bits too close together,or ending up with sticky fingers and,or paper cuts so kudos for a very relaxing piece...oh and pass the glue would you I may have a try....no I don't think I will.Nice one mate.

Hi Yves! so great o hear a new upload from you. You made the most of some cool loops here, and putting them together so seamlessly is it's own talent. Terrific listen - thanks!

Very atmospheric
Nice piece, even if you didn't play the notes yourself.

The danger with loops is always that it's too easy to just stick a bunch together, coherence be damned. You kind of run that risk here when you briefly bring in that acoustic guitar. To me, even loop pieces or electronic compositions need to sound as if they're played by a band. Since a band does not have unlimited people, I expect to hear only a few solo instruments. Using too many different sounds make it fake to me. But I think you're staying on this side of the border between good and bad taste :-)

Agreed !
Many thanks Vic (and everyone) for all constructive comments. What I personally found worthwhile in this piece was more the outcome than the process (meaning, using loops right now is not really my preferred way but at that time it was kind of a more accessible solution to me). Though, I am having precious takeaways, because your comments are helpful even when doing a non-electronic composition. Thanks so much for your constructive comments and kind interest to this piece.

Lovely and Light
I love the high pitch whistle sound at 1:13. There's a lightness to this that reflects the title so well. Dig those backwards guitar sounds at 1:25. Great guitar solo played with a soulful Strat sound. This is simply lovely. Be proud!

Nice!
Very relaxing and soothing. It does sort of remind me of soaring. The backward elements are cool. I would consider loosing the female voice. Great use of loops. Keep it up!

Melodic
This is a really melodic use of loops and materials to create a smooth and seamless whole. Such a light, floating, relaxed pace, too... I think this is plenty authentic as is.

Great title for this piece. That lush airy synth lifts me right up. I liked the electric guitar part. Mix is well balanced across the stereo field, and all the instruments are sitting nicely in the mix.

1:43
crystal sparkles - and at 1:43 comes this beautiful piping female
unearthly voice similation - vocalizing from the tonic - up to the 5th - to the octave - up another 5th - up two octaves and then her voice comes down and rests momentarily on the 2nd - initiating an indication of more yet to come - it just cuts right through - enhancing the syncopated persussion line -
even making one more aware of the stark contrast between the two . . .

The title is apt. This is a very gentle piece. I think it is perfect for background music, as most ambient is. I love the backward guitars.

Lovely
I tend to agree with those who said lose the female voice. Somehow, it doesn't fit. As for the rest, well this just goes to show what can be done with loops. It's seamlessly put together and a great mix. The mastering, however you've done it, is excellent. This tune oozes class and sounds really professional. I like it a lot.

Thanks Feter
Thank you so much ! This vocal part was also a loop (nowadays you can find full rap verses as loops - I had done something funny with that). But I agree with many who said, maybe it was not best suited for the rest ... Many thanks for checking this song. I love your work as well.

What?
In my world it's no wrong to use loops, it is still you who make the mixing with them as the mastering in this is just excellent.

Great tune I love it, so thanks for sharing, and down a copy comes to more listening… Cheers

Creative Loops!
It still takes a lot of imagination to select the loops that work well together to tell a 'story'. This does. Loved it.

Airborne
First I find this to be a very enjoyable, relaxing and introspectful piece of music. Very wide open spacious soundscape. I think you did a good job of putting together such a variety of different loops to keep the music interesting all the way through.

That being said, I would tend to agree with Vic about the variety of instrumentation - and I understand that it is precisely because you were working entirely with loops, and thereby you are somewhat limited in what you can do with them. What would be very cool would be for you to replace some of the loops with actual performances - this piece is definitely good enough for that kind of additional work to go into it.

Just my opinion. Regardless of those thoughts this really was an enjoyable flight - thanks!
