After the Rain

Description
This is a short piece written over a course of 3 hours (give or take a few minutes).
I pictured a scene of African terrain under cloudy night skies, after a refreshing cold rain.

Afrolounge
An as per usual very well balanced composition, with all of the precisely chosen instruments on the exact spot of the ear at the right moment. What's not to like about this track... to the iPod it goes.

Nailed It
You nailed the atmosphere from the photo. Wonderful melodies throughout. So beautifully recorded and mixed. The violin is really great. When the groove with the drums and bass kicks in this really opens up.

the warmth of rain
Perfectly lovely percussive rhythm that is just syncopated enough to emulate rain, not sure I would have used the snare drum there, it didn't fit very well with the rest of the textures. But other that that, this was gorgeous, like a warm Summer rain as the caravan makes its way across the veldt.

I get the
African rhythm from the drum and the sound of rain and an almost languishing call "of the wild."
Very entertaining and seductive. :)

Really nice
I have to disagree with Drak re. the snare. I'd have brought it in sooner! And maybe had the bass and snare come in at the same time.

It's a really good composition, disciplined, full of restraint and with lots of space. Excellent sir.

Very Nice_____
Everything is well balanced and your mixing skills really shine in this. I enjoyed the crescendo uplifting moment in the middle when the drums kicked in (smooth transition)

Thanks for sharing,

Talented
I love your musical sensibilities, Einar, and I always have. Your music has such a great sound, a great flow, and a professional's touch... I always enjoy hearing new music from you - I think you are approximately *way* farther along than I was at your age. Your career will be very interesting to follow as you continue to improve. You're on your way to greatness.

I will say that if I were in the studio with you when you were adding the percussion section, like Eduard I would have recommended against a conventional drum kit, and I would have encouraged you to go in more of an ethnic percussion direction, in order to keep congruence with the sound of the track. However, with your high skill level, you still created a gem here. Congratulations, Einar. You are a fine composer.

I could smell the African rain
Great job on this! Tasteful, mature, patient and very moody. The mix is perfect, the elemental choices are choice. I love it when the bass and drums kick in - not expected and perfect! There's only one tiny little thing that I would suggest - the opening flute statement is a 5 note phrase, that 5th note is sustained until the phrase starts all over again. I'd like to hear a slight break before it repeats, give the flautist a moment to take a breath. Great piece - thanks!

after rain
I've been wishing the rain would stop here for weeks - it would be lovely to play this AFTER the rain. But it goes so nicely with rain too. You always use mallets so well. Nice steel drum (hang?) and marimba. I agree that your flautist needs to breathe somewhere during the song. :) But I have to say I like the energy ramp-up when the rock kit drums come in. It certainly moves the song forward. Very nice little piece Einar.

Refreshing cold rain, huh? Seems to be that kind of a summer ;-) If so I think I prefer staying in listing to this. Thanks for the download!
