Bells & Whistles v2.0

Description
This is an update of an earlier post from which I took your suggestions and implemented them into this bigger and better version.

I put this in the acoustic rock category since the verses are acousticy and the choruses contain the rock.
There are a lot of "B" words in the lyrics.
Julian asked me why that is and the answer is "because biatch". actually, when I started to write lyrics I had only one phrase in mind which was "the bees knees". Don't know where it came from but I remember it flying around in my head that entire morning. So instead of pondering that phrase and reaching down deep within I just googled "bees knees" and happened upon a website that had a bunch of sayings and phrases, some I've never heard before. Bees knees appeared on the "b" page and I simply chose about 16 phrases that seems to make some sense strung together. However the original "bees knees" phrase never made it to the final.

BELLS & WHISTLES
©2010 Ray Kainz

between you me and the gatepost
beware greeks bearing gifts
and the best of britsh pot luck to you

beanfest best in the beer garden
beard the lion in his den
ya better beat a hasty retreat baby
ya better beat... ya better beat it

bells and whistles
below the belt
below the salt
before the flood
believe that
all one's geese are swan

break the ice break the bank
bringing home all the buttered bacon
by and large and by hook or crook

bite the bullet bite the dust
bite the bloody hand that beats me
ya better blaze a trail bible black sheep

I'm Amazed
Such a cool Violent Femmes vibe. This tune is exceptionally well written, arranged, produced, and mixed. There's so many interesting sounds. The brushes on the drums, the tambourine on the off beats, the little piano ornaments. What a great chorus. I could come back 100 times and hear something different and cool in this every time. Yeah, I'm a fan.

I think it'll take you 2 maybe 3 times if you're having an off day, it def won't take 100 times, you practically listed everything that's going on all ready! sincere thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts!

B & W version 2
hey ray. yes...why so many 'B' words? okay...this is almost perfect. the chorus is really really catchy....in fact so immediately catchy that i was thinking i must have heard it somewhere before...which probably isn't the case. anyhows...the problem remains for me over the lines of the first verse being repetitive. the problem is this; i'm so used to perfection from you that near-perfection leaves me somewhat cheated.

yo
funny thing about the chorus, I had a way different sucky chorus before this one that I thought might sound better as a bridge but it never made it past the cutting room floor, anyway while trying to decide on a new chorus I had the chord progression before the melody, and the chord progression itself reminded me of a 38 Special song, mainly because it is the bridge of a 38 Special song called caught up in you. The melody is totally different than 38 Special but still familiar, but that's the key to pop i guess.
So I tried changing things up in the verses a bit, I think it works a lot better - not enough?
As for the "B" words, I think i'll explain that in the song description up top. ANd thanks for prodding me along on this!

What a good idea to put some phrases together the way you have. It works well with your music and gives a lively optimistic sound. Yum! I like that!

oconomowoc
ray :
tight audio mix
a happy song well written
oh yah . . .
eleveneyes has 5 E's
just like oconomowoc, wisc. has 5 O's
in fact those two words are very similar -
each has ten letters and each uses only
one vowel five times - in the one, three, seven, and ninth position . . . scott

Ray - Love that "CLEAN" sound. I hear everything and it's all placed perfectly in the stereo spectrum. Vox are spot on. Pro quality here for sure. Very nice job Ray.

Bells & Whistles
Ray, that certainly is an interesting way in putting lyrics down! :o) "Bees Knees" will be it's own song?
First time I heard bees knees was on the Geico commercial. Love the flute in there; great rhythm here and it is a happy fun song. Love it.

Worth more than one listen
I really dig this. The guitar riffs are kind of retro but not dated and the vocals fit well.

Really nice hook on the chorus and transition. Everything works together on this piece which is very difficult to do with a pop song. I like the xylaphone thing you have going on in the background.

I would put this up there with anything I hear on the radio with respect to production. Very polished. You clearly know what you are doing with the mixing.

the bees knees
b is a good letter. love the story and method of how you got the lyrics. perhaps you could do a song for each letter of the alphabet. I love the playfulness of the song - nice use of the glock/xylo. this has a catchy beat and tune that definitely had my toes tapping. your use of different percussion and different vocal deliveries throughout the song really help to make this fun and engaging, different textures to keep things moving. a really cool song Ray.

The double "Bs" says this is good
B.B. says this IS THE BEE'S KNEES.
Interesting how much you can say by just using trite cliches and how much depth one can get out of what you are saying here even though the whole piece is built around so much shallowness.

Good mix too. You have just the right amount of room ambience in the whole mix to really make it interesting sonically.

something from nothing
The lyrics were almost random but yes, once they were assembled and the more I sang them I did start attaching meaning to them, quite specific meaning. I won't divulge what that meaning is since every listener will arrive at their own conclusions or not but yes, it is quite an interesting thing. Thanks for stopping by!

not sure why
I missed this, you got skills dude! I know what julian is hearing! On your great chorus, and this is a compliment, it is reminiscent of a Joe jackson tune and sound, love the carelessness of the "B" phrased lyrics, very cool concept! You definitely have star quality, I'm gonna get back to your catalogue one day soon, it's hard to keep up with so many new posts everyday, I try to listen to them all. Great job Ray!

Great!
Was intrigued to hear this after the recent comments :)
This is fab. Most entertaining. I'm a simple man, I enjoy catchy pop/rock music. I don't want to be challenged when I relax and listen to music.
This is perfect pop if you ask me which is clever in it's own right.
Maybe you could include an average flute solo or something to keep everyone happy :)
Excellent!

Strong, catchy pop tune. Vocals really shine. Really "professional" sound with a great hook line in the chorus. More refined than the previous version. Congrats.
