Description
Ages ago I mis-read the blurb on the back of a book with the same title ( and no, it's not the Arthur Koestler one) and thought it was about mans ability to create..and destroy what he's made. Supposedly the book was trying to de-bunk that idea but I didn't read that far. So I just sort of sort of ran with the wrong bits and progressed it a bit further.
I seem to get more inspiration out of mis-heard and mis-read things than I do with facts.
A bit heavier than me usual stuff.
Hope you like it
Cheers
P.S Thanks to Ben Boldt for his wonderful choir preset

Lyrics
MY BIG GREAT IDEA
COMES FROM INSIDE HERE
AND SOMEWHERE DEEP INSIDE
A DIFFERENT ME RESIDES

MADE THE MASTERPLAN
THERE’S NOTHING GREATER THAN
THE JOY OF TEARING IT APART

I’M THE GHOST IN THE MACHINE
I’M WIPING THE SLATE CLEAN
AND EVERYTHING I MAKE
YOU KNOW I WANT TO TAKE
A HAMMER AND SMASH IT IN

I’M THE GHOST IN THE MACHINE
I’M WIPING THE SLATE CLEAN
I’M GOING TO CREATE
AND THEN OBLITERATE
BUT WHERE DO I BEGIN?

WHAT SHALL I INVENT?
TO BUILD A MONUMENT
IT’S PERMANENCE
IS SLAVE TO TIDES

THE GREAT ARCHITECT
LOSE ALL SELF RESPECT
THROW A SPANNER
IN THE WORKS

I DO WHAT I MUST
TURN ALL THINGS TO DUST
THIS WRECKAGE IS
A PART OF ME

Cool Riff
and mixed with the analog synths creates a great atmosphere. I like the cool British vocal. There's a bit of Pink Floyd at their heaviest here. Cool chorus!

careful with that axe
hadn't thought about the Floyd influence but can see bits of what you mean.
The riff came about during some drop D tuning messing about and it just feels really easy to come up with riffs like that. but I think it would have been a bit dull without the synths so glad you thought it worked

Really
like the panning vocals in the verse. Neat touch.
Driving guitar are nice crunching along with the synth. Heavy but catchy number that i really like

ghost vox
Well, the vox came about cos I tried to sing it straight through and was having trouble keeping up so I split the lines and decided it fit more with the 'duality' of the subject matter so glad you think it worked.
Glad you liked it and thanks for dropping in

Ghost in the Machine
Cool crunchy guitars riding a straight up rock groove. The original ghost in the machine was philosopher Gilbert Ryle's diss of Descartes' mind body dualism but hey, don't we all want to feel like we're more than just the meat suit?

it's for you
I thought you might latch onto this because of the text on your picture.
I half wish I'd got round to reading the book but then I might not have got this song out of it.
I think I was focusing on the extended implications of that desire to build a lovely sand castle and then kick the hell out of it afterwards. Don't know if that makes any sense.
Anyway, glad you liked it and thanks for your comments
cheers

Alternative delight
A song with balls, performed with gusto. An angry edge on a solid bed of guitars and drums. The chorus is catchy and yummie. Great performance, mate.

GITM
I've always enjoyed destroying the sandcastle more than building it. I love the shift from minor to major in the chorus. I also really dig the BIG sound you got going on, with the powerful guitars mixed with the synths sets a really cool mood.

much enjoyed
Love the real live sound. A strong seventies vintage feel. Reminds me a bit of Television. Although it has a full sound, the vocals sit comfortably and are still clear.

Ghost
Great dark sound to this(who would've thought I like the dark sound) But I love the riff with the Synth sound(?) behind it. Nice sound overall!
It is funny how a whole song can come from a misunderstanding, isn't it? Most of my songs are misunderstandings, Ha ha.
Anyway, brilliant song. Thanks as usual

cool riff!
Hi Brenden! What a great riff - really rocks along with a slightly funk feel to it too. Got a real Hawkwind feel to it - this actually feels like a whole band playing it. Great!!!

Ghost In The Machine
King,

Man I love this! Super heavy guitars, colossal dual Kingbee vocals and a perfect synth accompaniment. Top vocal performance and a great idea to keep them panned apart. It's an effective result!

Great song Brendan!

I'm most impressed!
