Description
This is our opening warm up from the show we played this morning on Governors Island as part of the Figment arts festival. At first you hear the sound man's feed of ambient electonica as we take the stage and begin to mix in our own tracks of Buddha Box - Tanpura iPhone app - and a section of soundtrack from a documentary about the raga singer Pandit Pran Nath. For a while I'm playing the airFX theremin type thing while LSD 25 plays bass drones - and pulses - then I switch to eBow guitar and feedback while Steve DiB keeps the beat throughout. Eventually we go into a conventional jam that leads into our first song.
This was recorded outdoors straight to a Zoom H2 in front of the mixer. Slight EQ adjustment and compression added in GB - then mastered with some amplification in Audacity.

impressions
anticipation
drifting attention
floating and growing excitement
i'm off - i'm Here
the ground is here below my feet
and my head is rising
off into the clouds
this is good
the place i should be
right now
the birds (as always) will switch us to an alternate dream/reality
heart beat - breathing - feeling the air - the clothes on my skin
the crowd all around - moving - living - seeing it all
the ground - my feet
the beat flowing through my skeleton

i'm ready

And who or what is the ecclectically
attired individual on the left in foreground? They pay you to have this much fun? So glad that you recorded it so I can pretend I was there. :)

Never got his name - but he was our #1 fan
what you can't see is that he's dancing in shoe skates on the lawn. Figment festival is a thinly veiled Burning Man event sponsored by the Parks Department - only in that - the same people who come out and volunteer are in the NY Burning Man community as is the event organizer. Hence - the costumes and freaks and general good vibes.
BTW - we never get paid to play. Those days are long gone.

neat
what a great sounding jam.
like your use of technology, very 21st century sounding.
I've said it before, but your drummer really kicks ass! I really like the kinda jazzy but heavy sound he gets.
looks like a fun gig judging by the pic.

Thanks for the support
It's interesting working with electronics in a live setting - I really enjoy the possibilities even though what we're doing is actually very lo tech.

Strange, But
good strange...a little out there is a good way back for someone who is far out there...what am i even saying ? This is is worthy of Pink Floyd on their improvisational wandering of 30 minute improvisationasl soloes.

Bud and a kazoo
Bud, you constantly prove to me that you could create a mind blowing jam out of a peanut butter sandwich and a paper clip and still manage to attract a handsome crowd of fans.

Your band is so focused and so inventive. Very tight sound. This must have been a great day for music and culture even by NY's standards. Glad you were able to capture the event for the rest of us to marvel and ponder!

Lisa snapped the best photo of the day as well! It's almost as if we were there. You guys are too cool.

Thanks for another download A7

man that must have been some festival. i like how you used all that high tech equipment to create some really earthy music. and you guys are really tight, the way you can improvise and nobody takes a left turn...every time i hear you play i miss playing with a band.

Yes
Though the guy in the foreground is more colorful, I'm mostly intrigued by the pirate in the gold coat and all-stars.

I'm impressed with how this was done live. It's very layered. Thick was goodies.

Guys
I just discovered this is an excellent intro for a Sunday morning concert and also for a Sunday morning latte.
It is incredible you guys, being 3, can produce such an intense and full sound. The touches of voice, even buried, distorted and unintelligible, expands the music into another dimension. It somehow creates mystery; like if somebody is trying to communicate in an unknown but close language.
The fact that you are playing with low fi gadgets and recording live from the air makes all this even more enjoyable.
It seemed to be a very fun festival. Among all beautiful characters in the pict, I like the pirate cameraman at the right.
I'd love to see you guys live some day.
