Lyrics
(My face is full splinters from this pine box that I've locked myself in)

Mask my emotions from the rest

I carry them

Deep inside my chest

All this weight of pain

Comes around again

Fake my tears

Burned away

Emotions buried under something I

Cannot place

Fake my years

Burned away

Silence envelops my breath

My dreams are dead

Breath is only optional

(Optional)

When all we feel is forceful

(Chemical)

And time comes

To reclaim all our pain

All our lies again

(Time comes to claim)

I never imagined it would be this hard

To live a lie

To fake it all

And all you see is I want you to believe

To believe

I never thought it would be this hard

To forget everything I've learned

And take it all in stride

Live like I'm dying

Live like I'm dying

I'm splitting at the seams again

Playing through these scenes again

Again again

I'm running in circles

Vicious circles

Save me from this lie I'm living

Save me from this death I'm living

This play

This tragedy spins out

Spins out of control

Control

Circle

Control

Circle

Control

Circle

Control

I never imagined it would be this hard

To live a lie

To fake it all

And all you see is I want you to believe

To believe

I never thought it would be this hard

To forget everything I've learned

And take it all in stride

Live like I'm dying

Live like I'm dying

I never imagined it would be this hard

To live a lie

To fake it all

And all you see is I want you to believe

To believe

I never thought it would be this hard

To forget everything I've learned

And take it all in stride

Live like I'm dying

Live like I'm dying

Voice effect
Thank you! When Addison recorded vocals, she used the built in AutoTune effect on GarageBand. You just turn it on to the extreme , but you also have to make sure that your GarageBand song is set to the key you're recording in.

do I have to leave a title here ?
jess - addison - i like the way you placed
breaks in your written lyrics - so one can absorb their impact - reminding me of 'until tuesday' vocals or christina aguilera's authentic emotion -
orchestral accompanyment switching at 3:20 is right with it - with the song's established aura

the girl can sing
and although I dig the pinhole mic effect, I was waiting for a breakthrough of the vocals at some point. But I can't deny the song has an enchantingly addictive charm. A refreshing surprise that'll go straight to my iPod.

Nicely done...
Great lyrics and form, I think the style is very unique. I have not typically been a big fan of autotuned vocals, but I found this enveloping...I too was waiting for you to breakthrough the wall vocally as your voice is fantastic. You did it your way and the results were fantastic. Much respect!

The effects on the vocal
are interesting and pleasant, for the most part. I'm just not used to hearing that kind of megaphone like effect. The music is very nice. Good one, ladies. :)

I never thought it would show up... FINALLY!
Your fans have been tapping their feet, anxiously awaiting this, and it is worth the wait. Jess, I had the pleasure of getting to see an early version of the GB file you were working on when you asked for some technical advice, and I remember looking at the dozens of tracks and thinking "holy cow, this girl has put a LOT of time into this" it was very intricate, with lots of little details, instruments, etc. I admit that the mix is a little "loud", but that's the thing to do these days... even still, you do drop the volume down here and there to give some breathing room. I think Addison's singing is indeed quite good, and is unfortunately hidden behind the masque of AutoTune (my bias is showing), but hopefully you two will do more of these and she will sing more naturally on them. The composition is excellent, really draws me in, and I love the drum parts. Addison's melody is great, and the lyrics and singing are nice and slow-paced, letting things sink in, very emotionally delivered but not overly so. Congrats on a great first collab! May I ask for more, please? :-)

Oh, and nice artwork!

ttfn,
Drakonis

Heya!
Thanks for listening and your great feedback! Yeah, I'll admit, as the musician in this song, I had a lot of fun putting this one together! And I'm reallllllly happy with how it came out with Addison's vocals in the end! Also, I'll try to talk her into doing a song without the AutoTune effect, but I'll admit it's sorta her trademark thing to do now! :)

And, yes, there is more to come! We've got the original one we started working on, but need to finish the final touches. Mainly some sound problems, but I think I know the source of the problem. It's just a matter of finding time to do so, but seeing as how school is getting out, that should be easier.

Speaking of time, sorry 'bout taking foreer to get it up. I blame school and all of it's time-thieving evilness. And there's no Robin Hood to give me back some time! :'(

Anywayz, thanks for listening, and glad you enjoyed it! ^_^

i find the auto tuned vocals
very hard to listen to (not because they are autotuned, but because they sound a little too harsh in the mix - i think they would be fine if blended a bit better)
the music is nicely done, but again the autotune kind of pulls my ears away from the music

nice experiment tho

Powerful
I don't know anything about AutoTune, don't have it. I know many artists use it, and I say, "If it works, it works!" It certainly works for this tune. You have a lovely voice, that is apparent.

However, I am focused and drawn to those amazing lyrics & emotion you portray when you sing them. I would double up on the track next time to make it fuller, other than that, this song rocks!

Great album art too! You ladies did a great job, Avril better retire!

too much
Too much going on here and its difficult to hear the song. I can hear vocal autotune prevalently ..is this intentional? I think you would be better without it IMO for something like this. I think you need to go back to the arrangement and really sort out what you need and what is superfluous. For instance, there was a high guitar riff in the beginning that seemed somewhat out of place in the verse.

Hey Jess and Addison - CONGRATS on the first of hopefully many MOM (lol) collabs! this is terrific work. like others, i had wished for the vocal "breakout" - that's a big voice there, i'd love to hear it w/o the autotune, just doing what it can actually do. i don't dislike autotune as a style choice in a song, but addison's voice is so much MORE than that! great instrumentation jess - expecting more great things from you two!

Great song...

.. in a low tech demo quality. The vocals are excellent: excellent lyrics, great delivery- sung with real passion and conviction... but I'd really be considering a small investment in a half-decent mic to be getting clarity and avoiding clipping/distorting on the louder notes and I'd also use less of "auto-tune": by all means use it "for effect" in spots maybe (if at all), but not ubiquitously throughout, that the best advise I can give. Perhaps a little more work on multi-tracking the vocals too .. well impressive never-the-less. Can't wait to hear more.

You can tell
[RANT]

You can usually tell whether an pitch-corrected performance would be far better without it. This is an example of one of those. Addison, the warble that happens when you're sliding between notes or hitting blue notes - notes that I think should be heard instead of autotuned away - is downright masking (no pun intended) what sounds like a great melody. Pitch correction can't figure out what to do when you're momentarily between notes and that indecision is distracting.

Jessica, you've crafted a great song, simple yet emotional. It's perfectly suited to the lyric. You two are MFEO here. Turn the pitch correction down from 11 to 0, re-render and re-post. People will be blown away.
