House In Order

Description
Inspired by Matthew chapters 24 and 25.

"But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into."

I just started going from there and said to myself "Time to get your house in order"

Tempie heard the earliest version of the song and suggested a real funkified guitar, so of course I let him. Then he helped me clean out the garage.

Thanks for listening.

Lyrics
DID YOU GET YOUR HOUSE IN ORDER?
HAVE YOU PUT YOUR MESS AWAY?
ARE YOU WAITING FOR TOMORROW?
WILL YOUR GUEST ARRIVE TODAY?

DO YOU THINK YOU KNOW THE HOUR?
DO YOU THINK YOU’D KNOW THE DAY?
DID YOU THINK THAT YOU’D BE SLEEPING
AS HE TOOK YOUR STUFF AWAY?

LIGHTNING COMING FROM THE EAST
AND FLASHES TO THE WEST
SUN WILL FADE
THE STARS WILL FALL
ARE YOU READY FOR YOUR GUEST?

TRUMPETS BLASTING
TEETH ARE GNASHING
LOOK THE MASTER
COMES TODAY
ARE YOU SLEEPING?
ARE YOU WEEPING?
WILL HE TAKE YOUR STUFF AWAY?

TRUMPETS BLASTING
TEETH ARE GNASHING

Tempie is about the funkiest disco jammin' redneck I know. His guitar playing is way underrated in my humble opinion.

Thanks for listening Eddie.

Thanks for the listen.

The lyrics took some time to develop because there were a few ways I could've taken this. I wanted to express the sense of urgency I got from ready those chapters.

The fun and quirky parts come easy!

Thanks again!

thanks god we still have you to keep the Booji Boy flame alive. Great collab - priceless funkification and as always great synths. Those voice lessons really paid off - that's for sure.

Time To Clean Some House
Be a man or a mouse...

If you live in a small town, you might meet a dozen or two young alien types who step out and dare to declare, "We're through bein' cool"

I think you know what I'm saying!

Thanks for the encouragement Bud. I'm trying to put a little more effort into my songs, especially in the singing dept.

You have no idea how much I spent to get that cheap synth sound! Twice as much as I paid for the funk riffage!

Thanks for the props.

the gospel according to 5xa
I've never thought that I would be dig xtian rock so much, nor that a funky guitar could be so ominous. I really like the apocalyptic tone of the verses and the distant oriental feel of the final sequences.

Xtian Rock
I can't think of a single Christian rock song I like. I've never been a fan of candy coated music in general and most of the "Christian Rock" I've heard is exactly that. There must be fans of music and fans of Christianity who might dig a different approach musically and lyrically than what's most common.

Maybe my music will create the balance that the world of Xtrian Rock was missing....

Thanks CJ - glad you liked it

I think I try harder when someone else gets involved. My normal practice of writing and recording a song and posting it all on the same night has something to be desired. I'm quickly learning after almost 5 years here that if I take my time, I can make it sound better. Good thing I'm a fast learner!

Thanks Dave!

This is too good
For MJ's I could hear this on alternative radio back in the 80's but fresh and up to date, A sermon told by robots and electronics and thats just the music when you get into the lyrics it touches a nerve because everyone seems to know we are in crisis but no one knows the day or hour (except if buy the whole 2012 thing, maybe its not this deep but it made me think that way, man you and tempie are monsters!

Alternative Radio For 2012
Hey Tim,

Thanks for the kind words.

Maybe we can program the robots to preach only the truth since men can't seem to do it themselves? You can't program a robot to lie, can you? He'd rip your face off!

No one knows the day or the hour, but the Boy Scouts tell us to be prepared! Let's listen to the kids AND the robots! They know better than any of us.

(Tempie is a monster - you can listen to him too)

Thanks for your comments.

would have guessed you sleep with a stuffed monkey
will He take your stuff away? lol that's a great line.

love how you used the hall and oates riff in the break - cool - reminds me of erasure.

normally i'd read a 'this is based on matthew chapters 24 & 25' description and skip the tune like a jig on bass pond. but you're an honest dude and aside from that you have a great imagination. i really like your bible translations. if you preached i'd probably go to church. well at least i wouldn't shoot out the windows.

also just noticed your new avatar. LOL! clever!

Stuffed Monkey
Hall and Oated riff? Are you getting me back for the Muskrat Love comment I left you a few months ago?!

Thanks for being brave enough to listen to the song after my biblical disclaimer. I figured there would be some people who would would avoid it, but I hope that if they know me well enough, they know not to expect what they expect. Huh?

If I was a preacher and you shot out the windows, I know for a fact you'd do it for a good reason (hopefully it wasn't something I said!).

I read the story of the Man that made a whip of cords and drove the merchants out of the temple and overturned the tables. He didn't politely ask them to leave - He chased them out with a whip!

Really liking your synth playing on this.
All these mad little segments that fit so well.
Wall of sound vox a delight as always.
Sort of modern day retro synth pop but in no way dated.
Cool stuff

Out Of Order
Hey King

Thanks for the listen. I had this dark melody in my head since we collaborated and I was really happy to be able to get it into a song format that worked for me. I usually run into problems if the melody develops too far before the lyrical idea comes. As soon as I started with this riff, I had 'House In Order' on the tip of my tongue. Tempie iced the cake with his smokin' guitar riff.

Glad you enjoyed it.

House in Order
As someone with a disordered house, I hear this as a call to arms. (Of course, the "trumpets blasting" part isn't exactly subtle:))

This is somewhere between the Apocalypse and one of those HGTV home makeover shows--a space I'd honestly never imagined before.

Now, to clean my desk...

Subtle As A Trumpet!
A clean desk is a great start Michael! If you have a visible desk, you'll never star on an HGTV show, which is a good thing actually.

Glad to see this place straighten up a bit. It was starting to look like a dump.

expect Billy Graham to play a gig with Devo. Yes. You are more creative than most who proffer Christian rock. The message is loud and clear. A fast learner and a good teacher, to boot. :)

Bleep!
Initially it reminded me of the early 90's video games I was hooked on then the unique vocals kicked in with a cool swagger in the delivery. This is a great listen in headphones. I really like the spaces you've put everything in, sounds great

Quick. Look busy. That's always been a favorite bumper sticker.

And your approach to biblical storytelling is incredible. Some people think that music with this kind of message has to be hokey. Not you. Your Robonoise 4000 is always primed for the kill.

i dig this. great left turn at 1.20...just when i thought it was going to get repetitive. smart. same applies to 2.08...and when the vocals kick in again it all sounds fresh as the start. the a capella bit doesn't quite deliver...but i'm nit-picking...because this is a very well-crafted piece.
