Description
everyone, i'm sure has had those moments of conversation when all of a sudden everything goes quite.

this song is everything but quite. on coming up with the lyrics, in this case everything was improvised. i would start something then refine them in each take, so it was a flying by the seat of the pants kind of thing.

Lyrics
Moment of Silence

just another day that seems okay
everything is here and in its place
nothing could go wrong on a sunny day
hot day summers out on the beach
happy stoner slow in his speech

an awkward moment the wind rushes in
somethings coming we don't know when
somethings coming
the reserved girls look a little blush
the music begins an eerie hush

in the moment of silence
the pin drops as it may
in the moment of silence
the words will fade away

we talked of rain and petty things
we could be chatting and racking our brains
seem like cotton stuffed in my ears
all of a sudden there was nothing to hear

in the moment of silence
the pin drops as it may
in the moment of silence
the words will fade away

everyone that you will see
as they speak they're falling…falling

there will be that moment that we anticipate
when words falter and fade away
maybe i didn't say to much
maybe i said just enough

in the moment of silence
the pin drops as it may
in the moment of silence
the words will fade away
in the moment of silence
the words will………..fade

what you say and what you will all those words are gonna spill

Moment of Silence
Psychedelic in every way. The drums are so Ringo meets Ginger. The vocal in the verses and choruses is very Morrison. The bass is so McCartney. There's a dreamy Lennon quality to the bridge. Very cool song and an equally cool approach to song writing.

i was on the fence whether to put this under psychedelic. at the end of production i was thinking this comes close to magical mystery tour style, it didn't start out the way but sure ended up so.

Such
an interesting inspiration for a song. Did the Beatles come for a visit in your dreams? And, did you just run out of words while this dreamy music played on? Really cool sounds and images. :)

reminiscent...
I agree with Andrew here...very reminiscent of Beatles...I'm thinking more of Paul Mc and Wings..."too many people".. going underground...too many people pulled and pushed around....too many people sharing party lines...

Great song and lyrics you have here...listened a couple rounds....

eye stand corrected (i.e. above)....I get by with a little help from my friends......thank U!!

But this particular song, "too many people" was from Paul and Linda McCartney "Ram" album - pre Wings...
Vic Holman said 2739 days ago (June 18th, 2010)
the walrus was paul
the "ram" album is probably my most favorite of pauls after all these years. i think i still have the original l.p.

Nice Beatle-esque tuneage Vicar!
Was going to comment earlier, then company showed up. Back for a second helping!

A pleasantly uncommon song about an unnervingly common experience.

Well done my friend!

just another day...
another Vic song. "happy stoner"... hehehe....

This really has a Lennon vibe to it. I can't pull up the song right now... Revolver or the White album, I think.

Vic, this song is such a tapestry of music. (and now as the song progresses, let me add Double Fantasy).

Dude, you are in a zone, from which I don't think you will ever emerge. Good... don't. Is that Ringo drumming?? Heheh.

And that chord you hit (Maj 7th?) here and there... again Fab-ulous.

Now back to our regularly scheduled moments of silence....

evolver. this song keeps changing in ways mostly instruments as it goes along. the bridge part, now that you mention it, reminds me a bit of beautiful boy in a round about way.

that chord, i can't think of the name of it at the moment, but it's a D chord with the D note replaced with a B note.

Shades of "There She Goes" in the melody - interesting drum pattern and McCartneyesque bass move this along nicely. Lennon could have sung this and sounded just like Vic Holman ;)

Cool premise for a song, and the lyric develops it well. I'm getting a Sgt Pepper era Beatles feel from this. Vocs are good, and your usual stellar production. Great job overall.

Quiet
Man, I love your style on this track. Very nice change up in my opinion. You should fly by the seat of your pants more often.

You know this one is right up my alley.

Saw the mention of Paul and John. But, I think this is something they could have up with if they had ever gotten back together in the late 70's. Has elements of their solo stuff, but not Beatlesque so much. A touch of Petty to your vox.

At the end of the day it's total VIC

Fantastic!
I'm at awe whenever I get to listen to something from you. Since this brings a Beatlish feel, I'd love to hear a full album of you covering the Beatles' classics!

2 things I noticed here that are kinda different than before... the acoustic guitar is dry? It doesn't sound as bright and full as the way you used it before. And your vocals are more upfront and have a serious tone to 'em? I don't know, it might be just me; it's still a Holman hit for me! :)

regarding the guitar I'm using my Taylor as opposed to my ibanez that i usually do, so a different tone there.

vocals, maybe a bit different. i did try to sound a bit different, i don't know if i really achieved that they always sound the same to me. ha!

Classic Vic and well put together... I was a photographer when I happened to say something to my editor about how he was an explosive chap- we were kidding him for being quiet... at that moment the room got one of those moments of silence- a room full of secret service agents, (while awaiting Air Force One to land)I think I used the word bomb to describe him. Talk about awkward. Suddenly I needed another roll of film out of my car....

just getting to this
love that fat, round sound you got out of your acoustic. i like the bass slurs. i like the sweeping, dramatic chorus. but what makes the entire tune for me is that beautiful little break at 2:35 with those unbelievably pretty two little words, 'falling, falling'. wow man, how did you keep from repeating that? I'd have made that the entire tune lol. Great complex sound, bitter/sweet/sour/ it's all there and the best thing about it is how you feel after it ends, the vapor trails of all those sounds slowly breaking apart in your head.

Hey Craig
i like sweet & sour chicken. yeah about that break. originally it was going to be just a short musical interlude. but since i had the microphone all set on record, i just improvised, same with the vocal thing at the end. and then called it a day.
