Them Pickers, Grinners, Losers, Winners (Ain't nothin' hotter than Texas)

Description
Here's a little song about the great MacJams meet up at Jack Hemby's house down in Greenville, Texas, July 9th and 10th of 2010. I produced this song because I had plans on being there for the fun, and I thought maybe the gang would like to do there own version of this song by replacing any or all of the parts I've done with their own. Kind of make a MacJams "Texas Style" collab out of while we were there.

Well as it happened, we didn't get to working on this one there, so we'll be putting together those replacement tracks at a later time and posting it once it's all done. That's gonna be inspirational to be sure, with all the talent that was there for the get together.

Jeannie and I went down there and had the wonderful time with our friends, so we want to dedicate this song to all the friend we've made here at MacJams, and especially to my Baja Oklahoma buddies, Jack, Kim, Terry, Patrick, Andy, Maureen, Mark, Ryan, Jim, Sheila, Chris, Gail, Victor, and Josh, all that south of the border crowd, (South of the Oklahoma border that is) Of course Mark, Chris, and Sheila are actually either Yankees from north of the Mason Dixon line, or in the case of Sheila from the wilds of Canada, but they're still some of our best friend. Then there's Terry from just north of Baja Oklahoma, an upstanding citizens from below the Mason-Dixon line and proud to be the Rebel he is. All of you are the best friends anyone could ask for, and some of the finest musicians I've ever known. It's also dedicated to Joe, John, Harold, Damien, and Randy who didn't' make it to the Texas -Again McJams meet up this time, but Good Lord willing we'll see them there next time.

So I hope you enjoy my celebration of MacJams Texas-Again or as Patrick calls it McJams, (and yes Patrick I will take fries and a drink with that), and the great times we've all had doing music together.

There will be another version of this song coming along as soon as all the individual parts from this fine group of players are loaded into the song file and mixed in. That one will be a true celebration of the spirit of MacJams, and the sharing that goes on it this fantastic community of Pickers, Grinners, Losers, and Winners

From Jeannie (slopartner )and I (sloparts), Enjoy the music, and the friendship of MacJams,

Ed

The only loops used in this were for the drum parts. Everything else is live Guitars or Bass that I played.

Them Pickers, Grinners, Losers, Winners - (Ain't nothing' hotter than Texas)

Verse

Ain't nothing' hotter than Texas, in the middle of July
Spec-ly down round Greenville, when the music starts to fly
Them pickers, grinners, losers, winners, pull out a guitar
And lay down a little boogie leanin' up against a car
That music soothes the soul, of folks around the block
Spec-ly when those Country boys really start to Rock

Pickin'Verse

Chorus

Well MacJams is the reason, all of us are friends
Sittin' here on Hemby's porch, the music never ends
Those pickers, grinners, losers, winners, haven't got a care
Just pass that guitar down the line, and kick back in a chair

Verse 2

Ain't nothing' hotter than Texas, when MacJams comes to town
Them pickers, grinners, losers, winners, can really lay it down
From Funky Blues to Country Swing, and all that's in between
Sometimes they'll even start to play, the Queen of New Orleans
The main thing that they do, is have a lot of fun
Pickin', grinnin', loosen', winnin', in that Texas sun

Pickin'Verse

Bridge

Pat, & Jack, & Mark & Andy, Sheila, Joe, Damien, Randy,
Jean & Ed, and who knows who, maybe Harold Luper too
Wouldn't it great, if maybe John could come on down
We'd blow the lid right off this, little Texas town

Chorus

Well MacJams is the reason, all of us are friends
Sittin' here on Hemby's porch, the music never ends
Those pickers, grinners, losers, winners, haven't got a care
Just pass that guitar down the line, and kick back in a chair

Tag lines

Those pickers, grinners, losers, winners, haven't got a care.
Just pass that guitar down the line, and kick back in a chair

We had a really good time there, and you couldn't have asked for a better bunch of people. We're gonna do a new version of this song with the Pickers, Grinners, Losers, Winners, contributing there own take on the song. Once I have those I'll do a mix mix with theirs parts in and mine out so we can have a true MJ Meet up collab going on.

Thanks for the kind words Andy, hope we get to see you at the next one.

Next one, Be there Richard,
you won't be sorry for the trip or the effort my friend. Jack and Kim are awesome people as were everyone else there. If you had a geiger counter you could have measured the radiation coming off Jack's house, the music was so intense and energetic. An Awesome experience that's not to be missed.

Thanks for listening and the comments Richard.

Greatest bunch I've ever met, and man can they lay down the music. Been a long time since I've been able to play along with musicians like that, and yes it was great fun.

Glad you enjoyed the song as it is, but a better version is in the works as we speak. it will have parts done my some, if not most, of the players that were there for the get together. Gonna be a cool collab for sure.

Be well and be cool Thor,

Glad you liked the song. In this one it's all about the good times we had at the Texas-Again gathering. And there's more to come too. Right now some of the folks who were there are working on parts to be used to replace some if what I did. That way we'll make a real MacJams meet up collab out of it. It will be very cool.

Thanks again for the listen my friend, and the kind words on it.

Your wife is a sweetheart and I cannot say enough about how much I enjoyed the get together....just wonderful!!! This song is great Ed. You summed it all up here as only you could. Way to go man. Kudos my friend

Gail you are such a sweetheart
Jeannie and I just love you to pieces. Meeting you was something I'd wanted to do since we started listening to each others songs years ago. ( Have I got you converted to Country yet ? ) lol What a pleasure it was to watch you start wailing on those keys and especially when you and Victor did that lovely piece you two did. You've got some really good chops on the keyboard, Girl

Love meeting you and getting to know you. Jeannie says to say hi for her.

It wasn't hard,
to get excited about this song, Maurice.

I've wanted to go to one of these events for a long time, but could never manage to get there. When I wrote the song, although I was determined to go to this one, I knew that there was the possibility that I would not be able to make it for health reasons. So I wrote and put this together just in case as a gift for all my friend at MacJams, but particularly for Jack, Patrick, Terry, John, Harold, Mark, Andy and all the rest that might get to go to the Texas-Again meet up.

It turned out I did go, so now we're gonna make it into a collab for any and all of the folks that were there to put together. It will be very cool when we get the new version done and posted.

Thanks for listening Maurice, and the wonderful comments on it. Just stay tuned for when the new one come out.

Be well and be cool my friend,

Ed

Come on down, Andy
and bring Maureen, the Sax, and the Mandolin with you. In leu of that, send me the tracks when you can and I assure you they will make it into the mix. This song is all about what we just experienced at Jack's house. I admit I was guessing about the porch, but looks like I guessed right. I wasn't guessing about the music though, I knew that was gonna happen. I didn't realize how much or how good it would be though.

What I wasn't ready for was the wonderful atmosphere and warm friendships that were immediately evident as we walked in the door. I knew I would be among friends, but all of you have become more like our extended family. That was and is a wonderful feeling my friend.

Be well and be cool my friend,

Ed

Look out Merle Haggard! This is a smokin' C&W tune my friend. Really dig your guitar soloing in this. Well played and well produced!

Hello Micheal
I don't really think the Mighty Merle has anything to worry about, but thanks for giving him the warning just in case. ;-)

Glad you like the song my friend, it was an awesome get together down in Texas and I put this song together in anticipation of it.

We are in the process of getting some additional tracks together for a rerelease of it with tracks supplied by some of the MacJammers that were there this last weekend. I expect it will be awesome when we get it done and posted.

Thanks for listening and the very kind, (to me, but not so much to Merle), comments my friend, it is appreciated.

be well and be cool,

Ed

Oh Ed...
This is so classic. You are the master of the country-rock genre man. Production is prime and the sentiment is heartfelt, as are all your songs.

I'm a grinner....

cheers,
D

I guess I do know my way around a Country song fairly well, even if they are more of a traditional style then what's coming out of Nashville these days. But thanks for saying that Jack, it makes a guy feel good when he gets one right.

Glad you like the song and the mix my friend. Stay tuned though, because I'm working on a new mix with additional tracks for some of the folks that were at the meet up down in Texas. Just waiting for the last of the new tracks to come in and when I have those, I'll be putting it together.

Thanks for listening Jack, and the kind words.

Be well and be cool my friend,

Ed

Wish you could of been there John
But plans are plans, and sometimes it just doesn't work out timing wise.

Glad you like the song, but wait till you hear the version I'm getting ready to put together. It feature 8 additional parts done by Jack, Terry, Mark, Chris, Andy, Maureen, and Sheila so far. I'm waiting to see if anyone else that was there wants to do part before I put it together.

Actually the amp was a Fender Frontman 25R on steroids.

Thanks for listening to it John, and the kind words on it.

Be well and be cool,

Ed

This is the original I did in late June when I decided to try and get to the Texas get together.

I had in mind to do another version as a collab when we were in Texas, but we were having to much fun to be distracted doing anything on this. So as soon as I got back home, Jack and Pat suggested I go ahead and post this to celebrate the Jam in Texas.

After that they all got to work doing their various parts for the other one, and I got to work mixing it. Once I had the parts for the new version, we went back and forth on the mix until everyone was happy with it and then we posted it.

Glad you like this version too. It's a little more aggressive than the other one and hits a little harder, but then I've never been known for subtle.

Thanks for the kind words Roxy my friend,

Be well and be cool,

Ed

We had a blast at the Texas-Again get together, and this song was inspired by that idea. I put this together about a month before the gathering of the clans, in hopes we could all replace most of what I did here with parts done by everyone down in Texas.

Well it did happen, but after the fact. We made a Music Video using some photos from the meet up if you'd like to hear and see the new version made up from the tracks we all did for it.

Well John
we wish you could have been too. We had a great time mixing it up and Jammin' down at Jacks house back then, and I carry the memories with me all the time. Those folks that came were a wonderful bunch of people, and great musicians in their own right,

Next time you hear of one of these get togethers somewhere you can get to, by all means go. You'll have a wonderful time and will meet some of the nicest people on the planet.

Thanks for listening and for the kind words, John, it is very much appreciated.

If you get a chance, check out the little photo video of the gathering of the clan and listen to the remix with contributions from all the players down there in July. here' a link for you if you want to see and here what we all came up with together.
