Description
I finally found a permanent spot for my little home studio and can now simply sit down and play (took me what, 10 years?). This is a sonic 'snapshot' from yesterday night. I'm usually better off the next day when I stick to my 'meditate/sleep/get up early' routine, but at least this kind of output I can share and in a small way say 'thank you' for all the nice comments you guys left for the previous post!

Photos taken in and around the bing! cafe in Kuching. Fond memories of a winter I basically spent there reading spiritual books, drinking chai lattes with friends and in my mind that's the kind of music they played.

chimes
and this time they aren't even real:) same goes for pianos - no home studio can beat a real piano, right?

subliminally sublime....
a soothing and subliminally sublime arrangement... superb!

hey pari....this is amazing on headphones. a real dropzone track. i loved it....except for when the drums kicked in. before the drums it was all zen and mystical....and then halfway through, the drums came, and it got all commercial and poppy. i'd love to hear a version without them.

drums
can't disagree with you there, zen and mystical always beats rhythm in my books too. it was fun to add the layers of percussion and i had listened to this kind of music before and found the process of figuring out how to get that sound quite rewarding. thanks a lot for the feedback!

Yeah, this is hypnotic. I love the percussion. So light it floats, yet so many interesting nuances at the same time. I really like how the analog synth sound at 2:25 brightens and lifts this. This is some really nice ambient music. I'm not sure I would call it dub. But what do I know?

Parichayaka said 2479 days ago (July 14th, 2010)
thanks!
i believe the description of dub has very little to do with this track, except for some of the samples typically used for 'dub'. i'll look around in the genre list. great by the way to see what kind of following you have on MJ after only a few months!

Tranquil
And crystalline--those beautiful resonating, ringing tones that are so pure--and used delightfully here. Very impressive composition and obviously you put a lot of skill, good taste and work into this. Thanks for sharing!

I love so much your style. It's great quality in songwriting and producing these beauties. Early 90's, there was a French film called "Big Blue" (originally "Grand Bleu") some of your works remind me the soundtrack of that film. In addition, the artwork is done nicely too.

Oh BTW, I loved Chai latte too, it was my favorite :-)

Wow
... I wish I could do such beautiful tapestries overnight. I think the fact you do it from a scratch gives it a lot. It is breathing with spontaneity and lightness and rejoyces from the absence of any planning ... sth I should definitely try to learn:) I also like the sounds very much and the moment the bass comes in ... feels great, thanks!

this and put it on my ipod when you first posted - finally getting back here to leave a comment. i love this organic, sort of un-edited version of you. i feel like this gave me so much insight into your creative process - lol, whether or not that is true, i have no idea. it feels like this is the result of the initial inspiration, a melting pot of all your ideas and all the sounds you hear. and then at some point you take this and start shaping it, whittling away, almost like a sculptor discovering the art within the block of stone. and i'm rambling....this is a beautiful atmospheric piece. thank you for sharing.

Great song. I like how all your pieces have such a spacious open feel. How did you do it? Is that the result of a background recording or a pad?

Like an Evening Breeze
There's a great ease to this piece yet at the same time it asks for attention to the subtle detail that is present unfolding in each phrase. It was clearly a special time in your experience that you have captured.

Very nice work as always!

Thank you for giving us a peek into your life.
Doug

PS - I too am finally getting set up to be more productive in my studio. New computer should arrive this week which should help with all kinds of things musical.
