Description
A brand new song, written and recorded over three weeks of June and July 2010. Sombre and atmospheric was what I was aiming for. This is not like my usual stuff and is far from happy-go-lucky, but I think the result is really quite good. Craig Thomas (tempie) was used as a sounding board for this one and gave some terrific advice as to what direction to take the song. I'm really proud of this one.
It's all entirely recorded within Garageband, using no external plugins. The simple reason for this was that I started the basic guitar tracks in GB09, using its pedalboard effects and couldn't be bothered to go through the hoops of transferring it all into Logic. I think the sound in this track is testimony to just how good GB can sound.
Enjoy.

Very cool alternative rock. Very good guitar sounds. Those are the amp models in GarageBand 9? Which one(s). I just moved up to version 9. I'm digging the 2 Fenders and the Vox in version 9. But I'm hating the Marshall and the rectifier. I guess I have to get doing some tweaking. I like the bass and drum tracks here, particularly the chorus. Rock solid with a lot of interesting nuance.

Amp models
They are GB amps honest. Some personal tweaks have been incorporated. I mainly used Dublin Delay and one I created myself which I call Infinite Guitar. This is basically lots of verb at the start of the chain and a tweak more verb on the end. Glad you enjoyed it.

Intense lyrics. I've been liking that Dublin Delay too, sounds great. Understated vocals sound good and the attitude suits the lyric. Great production, I agree that GB can sound competitive.

Cool song!
Awesome harmonies! The relaxed vocals are very fitting for the song. I really like the falsetto notes in the vocals as well; that's a really nice touch.

Very different
from your usual fare Paddy. Nice though. I'm glad you felt emboldened to try something new. The vocal on this especially works. Cool arrangement. Really like that "distant" lead in the mix too!

Be well friend!

You got me down...
After the first two events I was ready to grab a beer and sit down for a few hundred more...but the overall feel of the song pulled me through the tunnel of gloom. Nice vocals and guitar tones :)

great tune man
man i love the dynamics in this one, the quiet little verses with the heavy lyrics broken up by that sweet happy 80's bridge and then that cool mayfly concept in the chorus, great decision to leave the chorus to the very end. i really, really like this tune Paddy, it has guts and everything is placed just right. Thanks for the dl.

ooh
I love the single note guitar bits between verses. The sleepy vocal works really well, too. Surefire DL. I'm really in to this. It's a smart song with enough pop sensibility to last two plays in a row. Great job.

I grew up in the 70's and 80's in the south of the UK in an Irish family. I had always loved music but was never given an opportunity to explore making it for myself. About 10 years ago I bought an acoustic guitar and began strumming in earnest. To d... [see more]
