Description
As a counterpoint to 'Mayfly' and 'cos this is the type of stuff I love to do, here's 'Stars'. Written and recorded over about 3 weeks this is my hymn to all-nighters, walking in the door at 6am to a disapproving look. Beer, girls, bars, cars and more girls.
My Ibanez and Epiphone Dot Studio are sparring here along with my newly acquired EZDrummer software which has lots of fantastic drum grooves and the ability to edit them too.
I spent a lot of time working the vocals on this, to the point where I've probably messed up my throat for a week or two.
It's meant to be played loud. Have fun and enjoy.

Lyrics
Backseat kisses, sodium lights
Wooden horses turning round and round
Neon flashes, moonlight candy sounds
Empty street race late night crowd

Are the stars the enough for you Are the stars enough
Are the stars enough for you
Or should I fly?

Golden morning, ice cold windscreen miles
Dirt scuffed knees and tired eyes
Cops on corners, secret stair escapes
Lipstick perfect farewell smile

Are the stars enough for you
Are the stars enough
Are the stars enough for you
Or should I fly?

BRIDGE:

We got moonlight chances
And gas stop late romances
And dollar bill warm memories

Souls in perfect union
A moment caught in amber
Streetlight symphony

The sum is greater than the parts. There's something about the way the sounds mesh at :22 that just floored me. The drums, bass, and guitars create a bed that is rock solid yet cushy and comfortable at the same time.

Nice vocal particularly in the chorus. The 2 part harmony is nice. Forgive me, this next part is really meant as a compliment. The 2nd verse harmony reminded me of Simon and Garfunkel. I think the upper part just has a vocal tone like Art.

I dig the guitar solo at the end, although the one note at 4:42 was a sharp stick in the eye. But in the context of the line it does seem to work.

I love when the bass drives
the rythm of the song. That's very cool. I listened to this a couple times before commenting. Very good stuff man!

We used to have midnight barbeques at my buddies house in Tempe, AZ. Of course we'd have the pool open and the hi-fi blastin'. This song would have fit in perfect. The lyrics also remind me of that time. Cool song.

i like the lyrics a lot, great imagery, FANTASTIC chorus, evocative of late 70's radio rock, really, really dig that chorus. my only beef is with the verse, i think you could have been more creative with the phrasing and the harmonies. as is it works, but that killer chorus wants more out of the verse.

Verses
I'll revisit the verses at some point. I kinda agree with you on it. I'm gonna take time out from it and see what arises.

Bro...
You have come soooo far!! I remember when you first joined. I knew you were uploading diamonds in the rough. Wow was I blown away when this started and it pulled me in and kept me there. All your hard work shows here Paddy. Writing. production and performance are top notch. I hear too many influences within to mention. This is some of your best work bro. I see like me you are not good at saying good bye lol (ending) A fade out doesn't help this song.. although it doesn't hurt too much. It deserves better though, and I am sure you realize it.
Peace
Guy

Like Tempie
I really dug the lyrics. That intro drum beat almost made me think you were covering Rebel Girl by Bikini Kill then the rest of the song kicked in and it began to remind me of early Sonic Youth or 80's DC hardcore along the lines of fugazi

got me from the 1/4 note snare hits
at the very beginning: a memorable intro!
Chorus is golden too, the major7 harmonies plus the electrics create a compelling 70s-meet-90s vibe. Verse melody seems a little less focused than some other of your songs. But overall the whole thing has a wonderous rock sound that I love and envy all at once.

I grew up in the 70's and 80's in the south of the UK in an Irish family. I had always loved music but was never given an opportunity to explore making it for myself. About 10 years ago I bought an acoustic guitar and began strumming in earnest. To d... [see more]
