LYRICS BY KRISTEN WOOD

The way the sky was tinged with gray
The presence of a sleeping day
The apple breath upon the air
The fallen colors, the county fair

The way you held your hand in mine
The electric pulse along my spine
Your lips tickled in playful part
The giving time, the golden start

The laughter of the carnie game
The lion won with the purple mane
The candy and the movie reel
The kiss stolen on the Ferris wheel

My heart racing with nervous fright
The stars shattered across the night
The minutes borrowed in the woods out back
There was nothing that the eve could lack

I remember, what happened then
I remember, what could have been
Do you remember when?

The promises whispered in the dark
The mysteries and the elusive spark
The beauty of knowing your body so well
Utopia, before Eden fell

It seemed that love was within our sight
The perfect moment, a soul's delight
When spirits fly and senses soar
And no one could ever be needed more

I remember, what happened then
I remember, what could have been
Do you remember when?

Long, dusty roads we walked that night
Watching the dark dance with firefly light
Before the words we so delicately slipped
Became hard-hearted and acid dipped

But memories for me will always remain
Of that wonder-filled time in country Maine
The laughter, the promise, the carnival fair
The secrets only two kindred can share

A little jazz! A whole lot of neo soul! A healthy dose of R&B equals a groovy atmospheric piece of original music. There is such a wonderful bitter sweet mood here. The dry vocal adds to the intimate nature in the piece. Nice use of contrasting electric piano sounds in each side of the stereo field. They work so well with the acoustic bass and percussion. Great track!

Walter, I never know what to expect when I come to your page...I do know that it always holds my attention. This is fantastic, the way that the lyrics are woven into the fabric of this great backer. You continually put out quality, thought and image provoking music. Killer!

This
is gorgeous Walter. It is near perfect.. my only suggestion would be to have a little delay on it to give it some depth. It is perfectly mixed but sounds a bit on the "dry" side. You have a Robbie Robertson feel with the vocal performance. Kirsten is a very talented writer.
Peace

I love your latest track, mate! Thanks a million for popping in. I fully understand your comment, but I intentionally wanted to start off with a clean 'dry' vocal style, to focus on the proximity and intimacy of the first verses. Kristen sure is a big talent!

Well done Walter. The lack of ambience in the first verse through the chorus gives an up front and personal feel to this piece - which builds and grows from then on. Your vocal style is rich and emotive - very nice. This song has a very European flair to it.

Ha! Just kidding - I enjoyed listening - as I have come to expect from you - to your work - thanks!

Alwaya good
to see you with a new track up Walt. "Pop (alt)" works for me as a genre. You are getting much more mainstream with your songs over the last year or so - not a necessarily bad thing of course, although I have to admit I liked the "old Walt" a little more because of the seriousness and eeriness of the lyrics and of the music bed. This seems to lack the depth of the older stuff.

I love the musical backing on this - I won't mention the EU thing! - but I'm less taken by the lyrics. Not the words, because I think there are some terrific images in there, but more the rhyming couplets - I've never been one for rhyming couplets in song lyrics (although I've probably used them of course). In this context, they (to me at least) make the song sound less well crafted than other songs of yours.

One of the things I've always loved about your songs has been the way you use English in your lyrics. As you come from a second language viewpoint, the way you use your own words has always been a real attraction in your songs, giving your lyrics an "otherworldliness" that just isn't there when you use someone else's words.

In essence: great song, but I'd love to hear it with your own words.

Cheers from Oz,
Neil

I guess it's Pop
I have trouble picking genres for my tunes too. Your vocals are always intriguing to me; I like your unique style, it has tinges of Tom Waits or Bowie, but it's really the moorlandt sound. This mix is groovy and atmospheric. Nice going, Walter!

That cool voice again
There's a French kind of overlaying feel to this one. Both the progression and style gives me that feeling. It's very cool, and I bet it would be ultracool to hear you do a version in your native tounge. If there was an accordion in some parts there would be no doubt:)

Me like:)

Not sure about my native tongue, which is flemish (dutch). French could indeed be a better option. I know it sounds contradictory, but singing in my native tongue feels pretty unnatural. Thanks a bunch for stopping by again, mate.

Can I say
that your voice is sultry and sexy? I think you could read the ingredients off a box of cake mix and send shivers down the spine. :)
It sounds like a soundtrack to a dark and melancholy French film, like A Man and A Woman. This is not a bad thing, you know. Thanks.

Man, your comment about singing in your native tongue made me smile. I'm in that corner too.
Excellent singing. Incredible control at that volume and distance from the mic. The song grows slowly but you never get away from the initial attitude. So cool.
The backing instruments are beautifully layered and intermixed without stepping on each other. I guess the jazz reference comes from there.
Thanks for the music.

Why do I like this song?
Cuz it does what I like when I listen. Fav'd and dl'd.

The words, voice, music, and arrangement all work to deliver a solid song. The picture supports the carnival keyboards...

But like I said, it does what I like when I listen. Nice work.

Great
Your vocal delivery is fantastic - reminds me of the quieter songs from Rammstein - very Til Lindermann. There is also the ghost of Japan and Peter Gabriel in there too. All this done in GB too. Inspirational.

Walter you have a style all your own. I really like the bridge and the delay on the vox. I also like the loop change in the middle. Your choice of sounds and playing - all great. Your voice is what stands out and shines in your music for me.

Very nice job sir!
