Description
Okay, this time for real...more with the iPad and Korg's i-Electribe beatmaker. This time I constructed beats that I thought would work well together, and brought them into Soundtrack to work as a framework for this tune.

The Daban Urnud is the starship in Neal Stephenson's really incredible book "Anathem".

If...
Danny Elfman wrote a techno score, I rather think it would sound quite a bit like this (for affirmation, listen to the section starting at around 00:40). Very creative with some inventive rhythms and instrumentation (the fact that they don't sound like instruments always makes these types of tracks interesting to listen to). Good work on this--I liked it!

Elfman, I can see that. I'm sure he's had some influence on my aesthetic sensibilities, heheh. I do have an affinity for abstract sounds--that are hard to pin on a particular instrument; I'm glad you like that aspect of this. Thanks for listening!

Wow
This is wild, love the sounds. It's like I'm traveling in space and encounter a giant-squid alien & we go to battle. Then we make up and have dinner...Very cool!

I love that visualization! I'll have to remember that if I make a music video. Thanks, RAVEN

21st century sounds
from a 21st century tool/toy/gadget/gizmo. Tres cool. Nicely put together.

Okay, first of all...
I'm impressed that you made it through 'Anathem'.... I tried to get into that and for some reason I couldn't connect with it...

You continue to be one of my favorite rhythmic thinkers... I think putting this device into your hands could have unintended and world altering consequences...

Ed
Thank you; I think this device was make for exactly my kind of noodling.

I know Anathem isn't for everyone, but wow, I thought it was amazing. In fact, I read it twice in the past year. It's really like nothing I've read before. It gets better and better, and leads up to science fiction of the best kind. But that's just me :)

You know
I've been putting off getting an iPad because I couldn't think of a real reason to "need" one.

Man, this sounds really nice! I may have to reconsider my decision!

Honestly, i-Electribe is the reason that I bought the iPad, LOL. I mean, I was intending to get one eventually, maybe a second-generation, and when the price has come down a bit... but then I saw this software. It turns out that I'm enjoying the iPad for many other reasons too. Thanks for listening, I'm glad you enjoyed this!

iPad & Neal Stephenson!
iPad & Neal Stephenson, two greats!

Nice energy. Has a film score feel to me, or a music bed awaiting an occasional lead explosion from an FX guitar. Really nice outcome from you iPad. I've been experimenting with several iPad apps too, and wish other instrument apps could sync to a metronome better to translate to adding overdubbing. THis may just move me to get more serious with my iPad!

Which other iPad apps are you trying? I love Bebot, but not sure how to output the audio from that.

I appreciate you checking this out. The FX guitar is an excellent idea. In general, I see beats from my iPad leading to collaborations in the future.

Stephenson is probably my favorite author; 'Cryptonomicon', 'The Diamond Age' and now 'Anathem' are absolutely near the top of my favorite-books-ever list :)

I like techno-ish music, but the main reason I make it is that I can't play guitar or piano :) Glad you liked this, thanks!

Where's
EE (Brandon Page) when you need him?? Right off the cuff I thought of him in listening to this.

"Heavy" machinery comes to mind, like steam roller weight. Awesome, David.

Yes, reminds me of Brandon too, master of big cool beats. Thanks for mentioning heavy machinery, as part of my inspiration is always from the coming robocalypse. Always nice to hear from you Harold, thanks for listening!

Diamonds crashing in the Snow
Industrial CyborTechnoFlotsam... always incredibly cool rhythms you come up with, and great to hear something new from you. Although I'm not a big fan of hard distorted clipping, you don't overdo it too much here... and the "where the heck are we" journey you take us on here totally makes up for it.

Loved Stephenson's Snow Crash and Diamond Age (although he could not write a decent ending to save his life)... haven't read more recent stuff, may have to find Anathem now.

Drakonis

I think I overdid the distorted clipping, actually. But experience messing around with these tools is paying off, and I'm able to make less grating synthetic noises on the Electribe now :)

Of course, I recommend Anathem. It does feel slowish in some spots, but the overall mindbending adventure is great.

Thanks for listening, Eduard. I always value your thoughts about my mixes.
