Description

A recent original song - just done
Good Day to you
Photo is of my grandparents on my mother's side . . .
Hoping Jack Manners Likes it . . .
It was kept dry. Raw. Although
there are other 'takes'. It became too murky with reverberation,
effects, and stacked vocals . . . seeking the
once-through undressed nature's way for this one.
Backing off and zooming into the mic, . . .
as to not chop into the recording.

Having a different tuning - > C~G~D~G~C~E > you'll come across
a few slight low end intonation problems . . . a few clunkers . . .
Forgot to unclip the too 'hot' clips a couple of times - hah.

Lyrics

The portrait out there in the hallway - is a hundred years old -
that you were looking at - a moment ago . . .
Who was in the in photograph - one thing I know is true
I know that highway through and through - I do.
A legend is forever - a fairy tale is true
there's always someone out there - just followin' you
you must come from somewhere - even me and you
rollin down the hudson - or the kalamazoo

a hundred plus in a picture of us - in 1892
robust and rosey - posing in the dew
could have been the camera - the sun was in my eye
posin's not my favorite thing to do
a legend is forever - a fairy tale is true
there's always someone out there - just behind you
you got to come from somewhere - even me and you
whether rollin' down the hudson - or the kalamazoo.

Awesome
Very pleasant song. I like your singing & the acoustic delivery. If I'm not wrong, I think I picked up a couple of 'pops'. Perhaps you got too close to the mic. Great work.

Very intimate performance with a here and now feel, although the subject matter sends me back in time. I have photos like that, but I could never set them to music in this way. Really enjoyed this.

great subject for a song
I like the "live" sound you got from your voice + guitar. I think your instinct not to overly dress this song up was well-aimed--I find sometimes more arrangement = less.

thanks and there once was a cruel timing belt
yah - I've never ever even tried wearing finger-picks either -
maybe I should - - - I just let the finger nails grow to the right length - calium and magenesium compounds really help ! -
one of my nails was yanked all the way out in a timing belt mishap in
1995 - and luckily it grew back with twice the original strength

So pretty
Oh beautifully sung, it's like an old English folk song. I like the ooo's. Lyrics fit the style perfectly.

layer
! will be listening in your direction soon - yes - it is fun to layer vocals with this software ! - I chorused my falsetto by
hitting the same pitch with several different voweling trial and error attempts - of course - when I hold out a full-voice note -
- it takes more air - thus = shorter duration (for me)

lots of notes
considering how many of your picked notes are

NOT glitches - well those few clunkers don't

amount to much. nothing to really fret about

great work good tone. vocal right on pitch

' Looking forward to your posts too.
Yah - I hate clunkers - sometimes they can be ironed-out to seem
correct and fit with the rest . . . sometimes they are just largely accepted and considered "mavericks" - sometimes they are sore thumbs
BTW - Where are you located ?

love the tuning....
I'm a sucker for open tunings. Nice harmonics... and what a lovely song. the obvious nostalgic content is well written and sung... not over done, which can easily be done. Your finger-style playing is very good. Many bows for this one.

thanks !
you know how the harmonics get off a little when you tune down
I'll get a thicker low C string and or try adjusting the torsion bar
a bit with a hex wrench - The high B string - I tuned up a half step in this one.
Th low C sharps abut 30 cents on the octave (as compared to its overtone harmonic)

Wow, I LOVE your guitar playing on this. Reminds me a bit of John Renbourne or Bert Jansch. Top notch!

Finally written lyrics sung with conviction. Thoroughly enjoyed!

A Touch of Gordon L
I enjoyed this very much. There were moments at the end of phrases when your voice reminded me of famous singer. I was racking my brain to think who it was and then after the song it came to me - Gordon Lightfoot, one of Canada's famous folk artists.
