Description
Downtempo? Maybe not, but yet again, I've no idea where to put it. "HOW ABOUT AN ELECTRONICA GENRE PLEASE?" *shouts in vain*

First fiddle around with Omnisphere. I've used some pretty common loops, [can you hear them?] run them through three separate Omnisphere tracks and messed about. It's a mighty vast instrument! There's also a bass track I made with the Zebrallette, and a single drum track using some loops that I've changed some. A loopy tune, but I'm just having a play around. I haven't used any mastering settings, just a limiter.

[Riva di Tures is a place we visit in the Dolomites. It's a lovely part of this world]

Lucky us: new Davajonah!
And lucky me, I'm first to comment. I like it Dave. It sounds kind of cool and majestic. Good job with the drum loops; they add nice rhythm without overpowering. I don't recognize any of the loops but I'm guessing you disguised them nicely with the Omnisphere sounds. Very nice, and of course, I downloaded ;-)

Thank you!
A download is a huge compliment you know. Not sure if anyone gets notifications of a reply [I never do!] but reply I will.

The loops I used are very well thumbed! You would know them instantly, because I've heard them on about a million or so songs, here and elsewhere. [made on a mac] It's nice that you didn't recognise them! But I was just playing around with the new synth, to see what it could do, and used the loops to start me off.

Thanks again Richard.

filter swept nomenclature
yes we could use more john rahs - and I believe you can submit/request more genres to the admin. here in a letter - blog or forum -
if you specify the proposed nomenclature - synthesized -
and voltage controlled filter - swept - I won't be too cliche' by using the 'alien' adjective while I write this overview - sometimes I choose the drum field - on my workstation - and manually play the keys - to humanize and get a variety of attack velocities - but this / your Riva swept me right off my chair -
as = I like it

Thank you!
Yes, an "electronica" genre isn't too much to ask for, is it? I think it's been mentioned many times before, but the admins don't seem to want to do it. Seems to me that an awful lot of music doesn't really fall into any specific category, so a cover-all electronica genre would be good. There's a "rock" one, ffs!

I spent more time building up the drum track, and getting it to sound right, than on any other part of this tune! They were Apple midis, put through Ultrabeat, fyi. And I do play around with the velocities, in midi mode!

Thanks again Scott.

Thanks Kenta
Yes, it's quite a beast isn't it! I thought the best way to learn about it would be to make a tune. Which I did, while fiddling about at the same time. I am, for once, [I never read manuals usually] going to study all the tutorials on this fellow!

Best to you.

Yep
Sure is a beast:D and I'm to lazy to read manuals…lol… I always learn the hard way, do lots of experimenting, so I have many so could songs from it that I never come to post..hahaha

Cheers.

Very cool Dave!
Omnisphere sounds like a monster, although you were doing pretty amazing stuff before with the Zebra synth.
Seriously spacey track - so much room in there.

AND it came in just over 3 minutes!

A very nice listen.

It really is a lovely piece of kit! Over 40 gigs - most of which are sound samples. And this little tune was really just a play about.

Cheers!

I agree there should be an electronica genre.
Anyway, cool stuff you got going on here and the drums are a great addition.
Very spacey and great sqidgy synth sounds

UFOs in the Alps
Really nice intro and build into the drums entrance. I enjoyed the almost ethnic feel you achieved through your mix of sounds. The random quality of the sci-fi aspect didn't hold my attention like a strong melody might have. But the hi-fi sound quality and excellent mix was much appreciated throughout. Thanks for sharing this.

Thank you
I hear the melody! It's there, believe me. As you must know, when you've been working on a tune for ages, every little nuance is imprinted on your brain. The melody is there. It's just not obvious at first!

Thanks Tobin. Kind words.

Hi Dave......
This is a really great first mix from you (and Omnisphere). The sounds and arrangement went very well together.

I look forward to more Westcoast soundscapes from you in the near future.

Take care.

what are dolomites?
i know i know i should look it up that's what google is for. i especially love the opening of this piece, loops be damned. i love loops and find that when i'm short on inspiration, the right loop can start the whole ball rolling for me. or sphere. or whatever toy you are using that give you knobs to fiddle and twiddle. this is very cool sir.

Dolomite
The Dolomites are the Italian Alps, which form an arc that stretches across Northern Italy, bordering France, Switzerland and Austria. Riva di Tures is a small village, nestled deep in a high valley, surrounded by beautiful mountains, and is very near to the Austrian border. We go there every New Year. Nearest biggish place is a town called Brunico, famous for making Forst beer. The people who live there don't really see themselves as Italians, but Tyroleans. They speak German by choice. They are a tough, but very friendly bunch, who love good food, drink and partying. That's a great reason for going there, imo!

Thanks for your comments - yes, loops can get you going. No one yet has said they've recognised them!

Haha! Manc...
I see you're living on the Dark Side of the Pennines now. White Rose country. Hmmm... I like Manchester, truth be known. More going on than in Liverpool, and some great musicians/music over the years. Here? Bloody Beatles everywhere. [Sorry Beatles fans. Try living here.]

Thanks PBM!

Cool track ... I love the way you put the pulsating - arpegio synts together and make nice harmonies with them. The most interesting here seems to me the usage of simple drum set ... very unususal but original and giving it more downtoearth feel :) Enjoyed!

Fabulous
sounds you've created Dave. The whistle type sounds give the impression of height as in Mountains and of corse the percussion gets us travelling..... really enjoyed this and wish I could get into synths the way you have. I still can't get Zebra CM to show up in my GB and it's still sitting on my desktop LOL, cheers M

a very pleasurable tune, sounds like you are getting to grips with your new synth (I have no idea how they work) nicely. The drums fit perfectly.
Cheers

Lovely sweet sounds curessing the beats. Enjoyed listening to this peice, very relaxing. I agree with a need for an electronica genre as most of my tracks are that.

Cool piece
and I am only a little jealous of your new toy. Since I don't seem to be making music nowadays anyway, I reckon it doesn't matter :-| Still, there is nothing like a few loops to get going with a new toy - or with making music after not having done it for awhile. Hm...

BTW, we were on vaccation on the "wrong" side of Manchester this summer (with a view into Peak District), so I figuered it was a bit too far from L. Else it could have been fun to meet...

Thanks and take care,
Henke

I think
I am reminded of spacey electronic signals. It is as if you corralled all those satellites that are orbiting us and made them sing together. Love the drums. It is a "Wake up to great day!" kind of piece; gets everything percolating. Thanks. :)

Never enough genre to choose from
but that's whats' so great about this place - most of the music defies any single genre. Really nice work here - the synths sound great and there's a nice flow in the melody.
