Description
WARNING! LETHAL LEVELS OF VOCODER WAS USED IN THE MAKING OF THIS TUNE!

I have weird spots where the vocoder doesn't come in when it should. I don't know why, but there's also that strange buzz at the very end of the song. It happens sometimes when one of my synth sounds is thinking, I think.

Oh well, another robot love song (through the eyes of a machine with human parts) dedicated to my wife (human).

Thanks for listening.

Lyrics
I'M A MAN
I'M A MAN
AND I UNDERSTAND
JUST HOW LUCKY
THAT I AM

I'M A MAN
I'M A MAN
AND I UNDERSTAND
JUST HOW LUCKY
THAT I AM

I PAY THE BILLS
YOU FIX THE MEALS
I CLEAN MY PLATE
AND YOU ALWAYS
LOOK SO GREAT

I'M UP AT DAWN
I CUT THE LAWN
YOU ARE A PRIZE
A LOVELY JEWEL
SPARKLING
IN MY EYES

I'M A MAN
I'M A MAN
AND I UNDERSTAND
JUST HOW LUCKY
THAT I AM

I'M A MAN
I'M A MAN
AND I UNDERSTAND
JUST HOW LUCKY
THAT I AM

BRING HOME THE CASH
TAKE OUT THE TRASH
WALK IN THE DOOR
AND GET THAT
JUICY KISS
I BEEN
WAITING FOR

YOUR SMILING FACE
LIGHTS UP THE PLACE
YOU MADE MY DAY
AND
ALL
THE
BAD STUFF
GOES AWAY

I PAY THE BILLS
YOU FIX THE MEALS
I CLEAN MY PLATE
AND YOU ALWAYS
LOOK SO GREAT

I'M UP AT DAWN
I CUT THE LAWN
YOU ARE A PRIZE
A LOVELY JEWEL
SPARKLING
IN MY EYES

I'M A MAN
AND I UNDERSTAND

I'M A MAN
AND I UNDERSTAND

Well I guess you know you are - and that's a good thing. Killer track there Bob - excellent synths and darn if those voice lessons don't continue to pay off.
Really digging reading the Devo book - many thanks.

Thank you Andrew,

I originally wrote a bass line on the keys, but when I tried to play it on the black and scratchy, I messed up and came up with something that I thought was cooler. Glad you liked it!

Thanks for downloading. That's the coolest!

your the king of robot love songs, and of course electro-pop. cool toney textures through out.

if you hadn't said anything about the buzz at the end... i would of thought of it as robo-man getting all staticy with his human parts all a tingle

Defective Human Parts
Thanks for your suggestions to replace the defective human parts with more reliable robot enhancements. When the robots destroy the humans, they'll probably spare your life because you have such great ideas, in fact, it will probably be your idea to wipe out the humans, 'John VanConner' if that's your real name.....

m.a.n
I always like it when a robot makes his human coming out. The song is everything you could expect from a 5xa song but done to perfection. The production is stellar, and, as to the buzz, it seems typical of an app on demo mode.
I'm sure this song will get you a strong following of feminists.

Thanks cj - I did try to do a more polished production on this tune for some reason. As for the demo app, I'll have to see which app it is and buy the full version. In the words of our very own Simon and Miguel, "MacJams needs more robot sounds and t-shirts!"

love this groove
Even on my laptop speakers this sounds like an instant classic. The "wocka wocka" bassy sound is irresistable. And the irony of the robotic voice repeating "I'm a man" is hard to ignore.

Vocoders are underrated in the age of Autotune, I think.

I love it!

Thanks for the listen Michael. I chose the irresistible wocka wocka for good reasons.... A) it's irresistible. B) uhhh... Well, one good reason actually. I'm glad you like it and I'm glad the robot singing "I'm a man" caught your attention too. I thought it was kinda funny so I went with it!

Man, this is so good. The beat and synths blow me away. The vocals are what make me think Devo, and the whole sentiment sounds kinda Freezepop (the love/technology connection). The vocoder sounds really cool. And did I mention that I love those synths?? Great work here Bob!

I'm In Debt To My Credit Cards
I like a big guitar pick for when I play the bass. One day about 20 years ago I cut up a credit card to destroy it and as I did it I thought, "Waitaminit! This is about the same size and shape as my $1.25 pick that I just split!" So ever since then I've cut up my credit cards, making 3 good picks each. I'm not helping the economy, but I am giving back to the community through the gift of music. LOL!

Thanks King

you are the camille paglia of MJ

love the bass, and that little r&b break. also really like your consistency, your themes are often about cyborgs and your music has a cyborg characteristic too, startlingly human in places - your vocals, the funk step here and there, the lyrics - and machine like in others - the synths, the bass. yeah i know, about as profound as a freshman term paper but it's true, you make real cyborg music.

great illustration too!

REAL Cyborg Music
Thanks Tempie. Sometimes I think it's a curse, so it's great to hear that somewhere out there is someone who appreciates another twist on the old Pinnochio story of a wooden boy who wants to be real. I love your comments "startlingly human..." LOL! I try!

Your profoundity is appreciated. Who's Camille? Is she struggling to get MacJams to let her print t-shirts too?

A Man
This needs to be on the soundtrack to a movie, in a scene where it shows a slow-mo of people walking. Love the bass, and the vocals. The latter have this scornful lilt that makes them irresistible. They remind me of Highway 61 Revisited era Dylan in that respect.

Great work

Oh Yeah Robot Love
Very cool rhythm track going on here. Love the squelchy synth in there (or is an effected bass?) I like the phrasing and the vocals in this. I think I would vary the vocal effect a bit though. It loses something when it is through the entire song. I would use if for the parts when the song drops away (no percussion). Then go with a different sound for the rest. Cool as is, I just thought that may add even more interest.

Stephen Hawking
He said the same thing about my vocals, but I reminded him of the WARNING at the top of the page!!

Seriously, I started out with just the vocoder on the "I'm a man" parts and then was strong armed by a couple of my bandmates to pour on a heavier dose of robot. Well my friend, it's not every day you hear that kind of thing. I liked it so much better with more robot that a single tear fell out of my human eye and rolled down my shiny torso leaving a corrosive rust track that froze me dead in my tracks. Lucky for me, a friendly gal from Kansas with a sweet mop of a Cairn Terrorist found me and lubed me up. I grabbed my bass guitar and stomped on my RAT pedal and the rest is rock n roll history.

Thanks a lot for listening. I appreciate your thoughts.

A really great track! So focused and punchy. Whoever you're singing to must really love this tune for the perfect little universe it creates for the duration of the listen.
