A Sort Of Loving (v.1)

Description
An early mix of a song John and I wrote some time ago (the last one we actively wrote together).
Thinking of an orchestral arrangement behind this, strings and woodwind, possibly oboe. Open to suggestions please.

Lyrics
Run me away... kiss me again
Fly me away to your world; crazy mixed up world
I don't know what you do to me, but could you do it again?
Amusement, bemusement. Pleasure or pain....
You gotta make up your mind

Float your boat .... love me some more.....
Spread your wings so I can see, so I can see how much you love
You never say what you want from me, but you want it just the same
Should I sing about you and love?
Playing chance to see you again

Remember the time we met? I do all that I can to forget
All the whiskey in the world does no good
Just sends you down dark to brood.

Show me out .... blow me out...
Send me to the skies and back or just throw me away
Trust me if you think you can; I'm not who I thought I was
But why should I run from my life?
But where else can I hide?

Suffering, hunger, laughter and tears
Who's gonna take the fall?
Give me a chance to take you away
You kissed me once, now kill me again

Stephen,
I am hearing a violin. I am hearing that because that is what I am playing to the music (virtually of course). I would love to send you a violin track to go along with this. Great stuff by the way.

re:Arrangement
Very nice man! There is one spot in there I hear a small discordant area. I'd have to listen again to be more precise. I think you could use a full drum beat in there. Also Violin is a good suggestion. It really is wide open. The next thing you add should be some sort of sustained instrument I think. Violin qualifies, so does the orchestration you mentioned, and actually so does the pads I saw mentioned. You could possibly make a place for a lead section in there. Probably lead guitar. I'll have to examine the structure to be more exact, but just go for a section without singing so a lead could play a bit. You are pushing it for song length so not sure you could add more time. It's not too long now but might be if you added time for a lead. So if you are going to put a place for a lead in there you might have to decide on removing some lyrics.

It really is a good piece and has great potential. I'd be glad to try some drums on this if you wanted. And actually if you made the separates available I wouldn't mind auditioning arrangement.

In general think sustained instrument(st) next. That's my two cents worth. Great start.

If you have it under control that's cool, but I wouldn't mind a go at some arrangement offerings. Nice!

it's great as is
sure, i can imagine a ton of instrumentation. when you play it at the academy awards show you can use the full orchestra. until then i'd leave it bare bones and beautiful, as is. a really pretty tune. I even like the fact that at times the vocals falter - makes it more honest.

Thanks
That's a very valid point. I've had this song for a few years now and only heard it "as is" so to speak, so that's why I'm interested in bringing more to it. Faltering vocals is as good as I get! =) Thanks for the listen.

So clear, and it's got the "guts," too!
Yeah, man -- a subtle -- has to be subtle -- orchestral arrangement is a great idea. Not too much saccharine, though, this is a really great tune and you don't want to lose the guts. Everything's so nice and clear, what a pleasure.

HAHA -- you forgot to cut the drum-metronome off! Love the W-I-P of it all! :)

Thanks for the kind comments
There are a few versions of this floating around. Loob has doen some great drums and keys with some live violin that's still ongoing (I need to send him some better vocal takes) and Sschedra kindly sent me a great violin track to sit in the back as well so I'll be posting a version with that too. All with a suitable fade at the end to tidy up that ending! Haha! Glad you liked it.

A sort of loving
Thanks David. There are a couple of new versions of this, one with Sschedra and another with Loob, who both added their own feel to things. Thanks for the kind comments!

Nice crisp sound
I found this enjoyable to listen to (several times). I like your vocals and the way the two guitars interact. I wouldn't alter the first couple of verses at all. You might want to consider filling it out a bit as the song progresses but the sparse arrangement has it's own joy. Thanks.

A sort of loving
Thanks Peter. We didn't mess with it too much in the end other than as you say filling out further in, as I got so many nice comments about how much people enjoyed it "as is". The two guitar interaction thing was thought up pretty much while recording just to flesh out the sound a bit. Thank you very much for the kind comments, I really appreciate it!

I've been playing guitar for over 20 years and still consider myself a learner. I started recording on a tascam 4 track portastudio ten years ago and once I got a Macbook, moved on to Garageband as a means of having more tracks to play with and avoid... [see more]
