Lyrics
It's Time BD © 2010

It's time to get selfish for a bit
Hey wouldn't you
After all I've been through
It's time to forget that I've
Been left here
Trying to persevere

This your finest pun
Made my life come undone
Your kind of fun

It's time to get real for bit
Working out the story
How you like to burn me
It's time to forget that I've
Been left behind
See it all in my mind

This your finest pun
Made my life come undone
Your kind of fun

- Chorus -
I'm going through those
Crazy thoughts after everything's been shattered
Distancing myself from
Our old love the things that used to matter
Things that used to matter to us

It's time to move on I know
Leave it all behind
Out of my mind
It's time to see its over
Picture's been drawn
You're long gone

This your finest pun
Made my world come undone
Your kind of fun

- Chorus -

- Bridge -
Falling for you was easy
Watching you walk away
Was the worst thing
That ever happened to me

- Chorus -

Things that used to matter
Used to matter
Used to matter to us

Very nice
Pretty upbeat sounding for a breakup song but I like it. Good job.

Upbeat break up song
Glad you caught that. I had some chippy lyrics but it sounded like a Partridge Family tune so I worked up something else I had partially written to come up with this song.

It's like Steely Dan's "Your Gold Teeth", where they skewer the subject with a snappy latin beat in the back ground "Torture is your main attraction" etc.

Thanks for the listen

Hey there Blue
Nice song you've done here my friend. Nice up tempo rhythm section keeps it moving along smartly. I did notice the Bass sounds a little muddy in places. You could try EQ on the Bass and dropping the 200hz signal down about 3db, it's help it.

On your Guitar solo, I would like to hear a little more of the guitar, and a little less reverb on it.

All in all, a very good song, good vocals, and the band sounds fine.

Hope the hints help some, but remember, get a second opinion, this is, after all, a deaf guy listening through a hearing aid. lol

Nice work Blue

Ed

Its Time
This song has definite potential. I do agree with Ed that he bass is too boomy. Cutting down the 100-250hz range will often help. Sometimes it can be due to another track compounding the frequency though. I would run a high pass filter on the other tracks, that may fix it without touching the bass track. If that doesnt work, then you can mess with the bass track. Vocals are solid. I would add some more harmonies to the chorus on this. Would help to give separation between the verse/chorus. Well written song, i think a little more work on it would pay off. thanks for the post!

Bass
Getting the mix down is always my weakness, especially with 3 guitars, bass, keys, drums, and three vocals. The thing I need to figure out is getting that sharp seperation in the imaging spectrum.

I tried messing with Guitar Rig 3 on the bass and it came out clearer but lost the low end, so I used the multi-band EQ and compression Sonitus programs that come with Sonar instead.

Thanks for the advice Ed and crissew

Best way to get separation
I have found is to is to use panning and eq. Bass guitar and kick drum and main vocal should be center generally. The other stuff should be panned. Lots of flexibility to what you do here but generally try and keep everything panned to a different level unless you want to blend two things together (like doubled vocals). Garageband has some ok presets for different instruments that has premade eq settings built in (most DAWs would I imagine). You can start with that and then tweak it from there as needed.

It's Time
Complicated structure. It's like an AABA song in that it has a refrain "It's Time" repeated in every verse. The chorus feels like the bridge section in this format because it doesn't contain the hook, and does contain the character's reflective viewpoint. OTOH, the "This your finest pun" section seems to functioning as a pre-chorus, and there is that additional bridge section. These different sections may yield a situation where there is no strong anchor for the listener to focus on. Musically I like the acoustic guitar line and tone, the lead breaks, and the stops. The vocs sound fine.

Sections
Yeah, it's got that "This your finest pun" section pre-chorus three times but not before the final chorus because we're coming out of the solo. That'll throw you if you're waiting for it but I like that sort of thing

Usually I label verse, pre-chorus, chorus, bridge and out-chorus when I post lyrics. This is because when I submit songs to A&R types they're in such a hurry or so distracted they won't or can't figure it out. Either that or as I suspect 95% of them are dolts- listen to the Top 40 music for the answer to that, it sells but it's crap

Thank you for the critique. It's always appreciated

Glenn Campbell style
Thanks for asking for some feedback. A nice Glenn Campbell style pop rock country tune. Nice a clean arrangement, but the track has a demo feel, in my ears, from the slightly loose way the lead and backup vocals are laid in. I thought the vocals were just a tad hot, and perhaps pitchy in spots. Enjoyable tempo and feel. Thanks for sharing this.
