Description
the music bed had been sitting around for a month or so, as with a few others. but i just couldn't get into the lyric writing phase. maybe writers block or just being to lazy. anyway i got past that and am in the process of dusting off the tunes

Lyrics
Spiral Man

a carousel plays with the mind
wild horses dragging for a ride
lightning in the head weakness in the knees
forever spinning as he whispers please... ground me

vertigo spins the head around
forever sprawled out on the ground
circles go round and round and round
spiral man is down he is down

roll like a wheel in motion
spiraling on waves across the ocean
rotating visions rattle in the head
always coming back to where it began…. again

vertigo spins the head around
forever sprawled out on the ground
circles go round and round and round
spiral man is down he is down

the machines are gearing down
the lights are fading all over town
the circle closes and the spiral ends
there is new life for the spiral man… again

vertigo spins the head around
forever sprawled out on the ground
circles go round and round and round
spiral man is down he is down

spiraling down, down, down (4x)

Glad this one got dusted off
Hey man this is really cool.

I like the percussion choice. That's cool. Gives it the flavor of some of the new Irish bands that are starting to emerge.

Always great lyrics and vocals.

Always great guitars.

Vic
take me back to those days eh? when music was played like this with a spring in it's step. Imaginative tune, like the Celtic feel to the solo.

yeah, big and bouncy was what i was going for. the celtic flair just kinda happened. for some reason the solo kind of reminds me a bit of a lindsey buckingham thing, i'm not sure why.

Very much reminds me
of the Beatles, Vic. Like maybe the Rubber Soul album period. Love the Harmonies in particular, but the rest is A-OK as well.

Another
DL in BXL. This one instantly sticks on the inside of the crane. How do you do that? And more important: will it vanish spontaneously, or does it slowly come down in spirals? Great one again, Vic. Also love the artwork.

crystal guitar sounds....
and lovely layered vocals. Ahhhh... Ahh. Great vocals...
Vic, this is a cool tune... and your lyrics are so visual - well written stuff. Guitar solo sucks... Just kidding!! LOL Love that crystal guitar sound you got going. Another gem from the Vicar of Guit - Ar!
Vic Holman said 2553 days ago (August 22nd, 2010)

i have been brain dead for a month on writing lyrics. a few days ago i saw the word spiral, for some strange reason that got me back up writing. who knew?

tf10music said 2553 days ago (August 22nd, 2010)
this is great
I love the vocals -- they remind me so much of Spencer Krug (of Wolf Parade/Sunset Rubdown fame). The guitar had great tone, really accentuated everything. I thought this was a very well done track.

On the lyrics end, try to avoid using too many gerunds, it stagnates the flow of your words a bit.

Cheers!

Good stuff!
Percussion is stand out in this finely crafted tune, as is the lead-guitar-as-bagpipes-solo. The "spiraling down, down, down" ending is exceptionally cool!

You are full of surprises!

Be well bro!

I go through
lyrical dry spells now and then too. They scare me to death! Fortunately, they don't last very long.

The occasional instrumental is a nice break though. (I really enjoy listening to your "Indigo B"!) My own view is that if the words don't come, never force them. Wait, and find something else to do in the meantime. That usually works.

Spiral Man
I like the way the lyric develops the concept of a spiral man (carousel, spinning, vertigo) One place where circular references work well.
I like the lead break, it's got an Irish feel to it. It feels alt folk as much as it does rock.

i started with the word spiral as the inspiration then thought how life can go in circles, so that got the ball rolling. i think it's the tom drums that make that irish feel going, but i'm not irish so i couldn't say.

What i love
about what yo do is that you don't even try to hide the 60s rock influence. Much like That 80s Boy, you just do what you do baby and it friggin rocks. Great work here too man. This song has a Byrds' "Turn Turn Turn" sound to it. Enjoyed it as always.

big old rock 'n' roll.
I like the style, your lyrics, and the performance. That guitar solo at 1:45 or so is excellent...I am having a little difficulty with the solo vocal pitch. Something to very carefully check if you decide to remix this excellent song.

Marching in circles
It's interesting. The music is straightforward and uplifting but due to the circular topic in the lyrics it's like in the end there's no real change, like always happily marching nowhere. Or, if there's any change, it get's you a little bit more within the circle every time. A perfect irony.

Good drum sensibility on this. Your vox is quite smooth on this. Dare I say? A 60's vibe on this definitely.

Stop the world, I wanna get off...
I dig the song art. Is that you? captured in another dimension? era? I like how it dovetails with the spiraling, spinning vibe. Your tracks are so well conceived, arranged, performed. Your melodies are all accessible and well balanced. I like your Lennon-like backing vocals. The spirals up, not down. Nice.
