Description
Decide today I had to get in the studio and come up with something to post. I've done a few things over the last couple months but... This is just a quick one to try and record a new Fender Champ XD I bought after reading about it in the forums. It's a 15 watt modeling amp that is pretty versatile. I've been doing a little studying lately, bought a Scott Henderson DVD from the 80-90's time period which is really a great resource of information. Now I really have a lot of work to do. Anyway thanks for the listen.

It's always a pleasure and an inspiration to hear you freestyling like this. You have a lot of work to do? I hope that means you're pouring time into new music. Great to hear something new from you.

i was just thinking the other day it's been awhile.

Thanks Vic
I really am liking this little amp, it has 15 different models from Fender, Marshall, etc. plus built in effects even though I didn't use the effects during recording.

Random voltage
I dig that photo. It goes with the improvisational nature of the jam. Who's on drums? Great ti hear your guitar again.

Thanks Tobin
The drums are stock BFD patterns. BFD also allows you to load a palette and let it automatically take over with random grooves and fills within that palette. Sometimes it can pretty inspiring to play off of.

Random patterns
Wo, I didn't know that. Maybe you could post a little tutorial in the forums. I think many players here were like to know this.

A time lapse
you are right there, there has been a long time lapsed since you posted a tune, i was worried.
The best guitar player here always comes up with the goods. Gary you are a natural, you could be up there with any of the big shots, but i would love ou to see you jam with Jeff Beck, can you make it happen? Drums are brilliant as usual as too is the bass playing, so cool to have the real thing instead of those nasty midi bass lines. Guitar tone and playing is off the charts.
Encore.

Work to do? You make it sound like play :-) Love that you stretched out here. Great soloing/sound and the backing tracks keep the jam moving through. Hard to believe your pulling such a monster sound from that 15 watt Fender Champ.

Clean and solid
Killer guitar. And the backing is not behind. Love the cuts. The guitar is melodic and soulful and agile at the same time.

First of all great to hear you again, secondly this just smokes so eloquently. Your tone is just spot on... every note. Love how certain moments climb and drop.

Nice sounds!

Hey, I've got that amp!
So how come yours sounds better? It certainly plays better notes....

I like the solo tone against the bonky bass phrasing.... The whole recording has a nice sense of air and space...

Did you record the Champ with the SM-57? (And which Champ XD did you go with, the Vibro or the Super?)
Z293 said 2426 days ago (September 6th, 2010)
Thanks Ed
I went with the Super because I didn't even know the Vibro existed. Some how I missed that one but I needed all that power of the 15 watts, I see now the Vibro is only 5 watts. Come on Ed do I look like a 5 watt type of guy and I don't believe that yours doesn't sounds just as good. Yes this was recorded with a SM-57 for lack of anything better if there is anything better.
