Life Made Easy (with woofer3)

Description
It's unusual for me to post two songs so close together but as the next one will be sometime coming I hope you'll excuse this indulgence :)

This is a song from the Celebrity Torture project that's been sitting on my hard disk for nearly a year as an incomplete unaccompanied version from Mr Hobbs.

John (woofer3) recently posted a song called Celebrity Cats which reminded me that Celebrity Torture was in need of attention and this song in particular. I always thought the song needed a uke so I took Graeme's version and played around with the melody a bit and came up a backing track that was OK but needed more interest. As it was one of John's songs that spurred me on to finish this I thought it only right to ask him to do something. He cleverly ignored my idea for a circus organ and 52 piece choir and just played piano brilliantly :-)

I can't thank John enough for lifting this little ditty to another plane (probably a Lear Jet)

Graeme - words and music
Dick - music, uke, bass, modified drum loops, vocals
John - piano

Life Made Easy © Hobbs/Langford

I want everything in life made easy
I never want to have to scrimp and save
Is there a vacancy in any royal family
Don't want to end up in an unmarked pauper's grave

I want everything in life made easy
I'm sick and tired of all the endless rank and file
I could start of with a generous allowance
And the access to a stately landscaped pile

I like shooting things and being rather lazy
Oh I simply do adore the country life
And even though I lack a private education
I could learn to be a top class parasite

I could practice on my waving looking regal
Standing on the balcony majestically
Gazing down on all the plebs and all the people
As they all wonder who the bloody hell is he?

I want everything in life made easy
I have a screw loose just in case you couldn't tell
So depsite the fact I haven't got the breeding
I feel that I should fit in rather well

I want everything in life made easy
But I'm quite prepared to do my bit for charity
But it's like full time bloody occupation
Nearly everyone's less fortunate than me

Life Made Easy
As the self proclaimed #1 woofer3 fan I couldn't wait to hear this when I saw it on the list. Great music house feel. The ukulele, barroom piano, and deep English accent on the vocal make this a winner and instant download. And I didn't even get to the lyrics yet.

Love it big time Dick
This is so good it hurts, Love the wry humor and jaunty style of it, and Graham's lyrics are very funny and witty. You tongue in cheek delivery make it all the more enjoyable my friend. Excellent post to be sure.

I thought I'd replied to this...

Thanks Ed, I find keeping my tongue in cheek is a useful device when you can't sing!

LOVED IT!

Who cannot relate to these delightful lyrics? This was great guys! Right up my alley and smiled along with you on this. Dick, your personable vocal and phrasing on display with this really made the words shine (you are a modern day George Formby here, but even better!) Thanks again--outstanding work, most indubitably! A modern day George Formby is OK by me (especially as I'm impressed you've even heard of him - I wasn't aware his music reached the States)

Hahahahahahaaaaaa!
What a HOOT this is Dick. I laughed through the whole thing!

Love this arrangement, and---of course---I've always loved your heavily accented singing. And kudos to John for ticking the hell outta those ivories!

Sounds a little like the Kinks meets The Men They Couldn't Hang.

Be well friend!

Excellent!

The Kinks?
and The Men They Couldn't Hang - now that's a bizarre combination!

Thanks for the comments but I'm slightly perplexed as I don't have an accent ;-)

Well,
they've never been able to hang the Davies brothers, so perhaps the combination isn't so bizarre after all...

Fantastic lyrics as always by Graeme and you and John fit so perfectly together.

Chas and Dave
I really liked Chas and Dave when they first appeared. Rockney and all that. Saw them a few times as well before they lost credibility with the rock crowd after Snooker Loopy.

Thanks for the comments Len!

Ah, the British and their Royal House...
Fun song.

The piano part is indeed quite excellent. Minor nit: in the beginning the difference in acoustic space between the uke and the piano is a bit big. In the end it all blends nicely, but that first couple of seconds is a bit of an acoustic shock.

Crowd-pleaser
Dick, you sure know how to put-together a crowd pleaser. A perfect song for the Great Recession. Thanks for the D(W)L!

[Deleted comment to repost: The DL version seems to have even more clarity, beyond this fine production. That may apply to everything here due to Web Mp3 compression, but this really shines in iTunes.)

What you touch...
turns to gold! This is a wonderful track, Dick. You have so much control of your voice with the slides and such and the bouncy accompaniment is the perfect counterpoint...That twangy uke is just wonderful...Such an upbeat, happy little tune, too. Thoroughly enjoyed this song. ...End seemed abrupt to me. I kind of needed a more final FINAL...But, it works nevertheless. Always a pleasure to hear your music and words.
