Description
'willow' - When performing LIVE I sometimes also do the more traditional version -to benefit dancers - which was also done by a guest vocalist with Candice Night and Ritchie Blackmore (Blackmore's Night)- which in turn has more of a distinctive 3/4 flavour . . .
the guitar and vocals - I did in one swoop - altering it's basic melody -
orchestration - I did later on . . .

Lyrics
as I went a walkin' one morning in spring
I met with some travellers on an old country lane
one was an old man, the second a maid . . . .
the third was a young lass who smiled as she said -
the wind in the willows - the birds in the sky -
the bright sun to warm us - wherever we lie -
we have bread and fishes and a jug of red wine -
the share on our journeys - with all of mankind -

so I asked them to tell me their names and their race -
so I could remember the smiles on their face
our names they mean nothing - they change throughout time -
so come sit beside us - and share in our wine -
so I sat down beside them - with flowers all around -
we ate from a mantle - spread out on the ground -
they told me of prophets and peoples and kings -
and all of the one god who knows everything -

the wind in the willows - the birds in the sky -
the bright sun to warm us - wherever we lie -
we have bread and fishes - and a jug of red wine -
to share on our journeys with all of mankind -

we're travelling to glaston on england's green lanes
to hear of man's troubles - to hear of their pains -
were travelin' the wide world o'er land o'er sea
to tell all the peoples - how they can be free -

so sadly I left them - on the old country lane -
I know that I'll never see them again -
one was an old man the second a maid -
the third was a young boy who smiled as he said -
the wind in the willows - the birds in the sky -
the bright sun to warm us wherever we lie -
we have bread and fishes - and a jug of red wine -
to share on our journeys - with all of mankind.

Great, great vocal! Nice arrangement. I've never checked out Blackmore's Rainbow. I was always more of a Deep Purple guy.

Sweet story and vocals
So mellow and peaceful... It's sometimes the people we meet only once, that make the sweetest memories.

One take... show-off!
Where'd you get that voice? Nice picking, too. The orchestration supports perfectly without it overshadowing you, too. Have I not paid enough attention to your music? I think so. I'll make sure I get e-notifications from now on. Nice one-taker, Scott! --Bob

Very impressive
Beautiful guitarwork and even better vocals.
The orchestral accompaniment is also very well arranged.

I would suggest, though, not bringing the strings in until maybe after the first verse or at least halfway through it - give it even more warmth with the contrast.
Similarly, I'd suggest maybe pulling the strings down a bit during the first half of the final verse ("So sadly I left them - on the old country lane"... to me this suggests really sparse arrangement) and then bringing them back in during the latter half. Give it a bit of a grand ending.

But like I said - I really like this.
Enough to fav it, even.

willow
sound like it was written centuries ago and has been passed down the generations as a classic. the type of song that people sit in silence to listen to. sounds very complete and self contained. great orchestration. enjoyed it a lot. cheers
